What Happens When You’re Declared Persona Non-Grata?

Just imagine being unwanted in a place you have grown up since birth. The place where your childhood memories were once created, or what if being banned from the place you love and used to visit before? Just because of one mistake, everything has changed.

Photo from Unsplash

And that happens when you are being declared as Persona Non-Grata.

The term “Persona Non Grata” means what exactly?

The Latin phrase “persona non grata” means “unwelcome person.” The term “person no longer welcome in a particular country” is a diplomatic term for this scenario. This may occur for various reasons, such as when someone poses a security risk or has broken the law.

Photo from Unsplash

In the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of the UN, it is recognized as an aspect of diplomacy. This is a code of conduct that controls how governments communicate with one another within the UN system.

A member of a diplomatic mission, such as the ambassador, charges d’affaires, or their staff, may be designated as “persona non grata,” which means the host nation “does not accept” them.

Without having to justify its choice, the receiving state may proclaim someone “persona non grata,” and it may do so even before the diplomat arrives. After that, the “persona non grata” would be subject to recall or termination and required to return to their own countries. In diplomatic language, it’s called being expelled from a country.

Puka Luka Vega Issue

In a recent event, drag performer Puka Luka Vega performed to an “Ama Namin” remix while dressed as the Black Nazarene. The performance was posted on social media and quickly drew the attention of netizens, Catholic and other religious groups, and government officials.

On Wednesday, August 16, the Cebu City Council declared Vega a “persona non grata,” meaning he was no longer welcome in the city; together with 11 other local towns, he was also banned from entering them.

The enactment of Vega as persona non grata has prompted a discussion about religious tolerance and freedom of expression. While some believe that Vega’s performance was protected by the Constitution’s First Amendment as free speech, others argue that it was an intentional display of disrespect.

Slater Young’s ‘The Rise at Monterrazas’ Project is the Next Big Thing

Slater Young, a Filipino engineer, former PBB housemate, and content creator, has officially revealed The Rise at Monterrazas, his latest real estate project. The Banaue Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Philippines, inspired the concept.

Photo from Monterrazas Prime Cebu Facebook Page

The Rise at Monterrazas is intended to be architecturally forward, sustainable, and usable. How the Banaue Rice Terraces are built into the mountainside influences the design. This makes the project more sustainable and has a lower environmental impact.

“We pushed everything towards the mountain and just worked with the terrain. So each and every space was pushed towards the back and with that we were able to create this free-flowing design. But not only that, this whole structure is spread out across the mountain making it a whole lot safer and less ‘yung environmental impact natin,”

he shared.

The project is also intended to be very usable. Every place is intended for residents to feel like a home and a condominium living, because of its outdoor space and lush greenery view. An infinite pool in each and every unit, a gym, and a clubhouse are among the amenities included in the project.

Slater Young believes The Rise at Monterrazas will be a success. “We wanted to create a truly unique and special project,” he explained. The Rise at Monterrazas will be a milestone development in the Philippines.

The idea is still in its early phases but is already generating much interest. Slater Young’s supporters have been quick to show their admiration for the concept.

If you’re seeking a one-of-a-kind and long-term real estate investment, The Rise at Monterrazas should be on your list. This project will undoubtedly attract attention and leave a lasting impact.

Fiddlers: Your New One-Stop Spot For Great Music and Food

Do you know what the ultimate day or night off is like? It’s being surrounded by great people while indulging in good food, downing cold drinks, and jamming to amazing bands. And, of course, we know just the place.

If you are a fan of live music and art and are a big foodie, you will most definitely fall in love with Fiddler’s Cebu.

At Fiddler’s, you can grub on mouth-watering food and try different premium drinks while admiring artwork by local artists and vibing to live music. Let’s see what this newest resto-bar has to offer.

Ambiance like no other

Fiddler’s has an ambiance like no other. Everything about the resto-bar is heavily inspired by music and bands, hence the name “Fiddler’s,” which refers to a person who plays a fiddle or violin.

The establishment has artworks and murals that relate to different music and artists. The owner is a huge U2 fan and is a musician himself, which is why he incorporated his love for tunes into Fiddler’s—both the interior and exterior sport a grunge aesthetic. And from the ceiling to the walls, there are artworks everywhere.

The whole place is aesthetic, even the restroom. Fiddler’s might be the only place where people go to the restroom to take insta-worthy photos.

Indulge in delicious steak, pizza, and more at Fiddler’s

Western and Asian Cuisine is what you will find at Fiddler’s. The resto-bar offers a variety of dishes to choose from. Fiddler’s fast-moving dish is the steak ala Fiddler’s, which is a succulent local steak that is best eaten with garlic rice.

They also have three thin-crust pizzas: Italian Sausage Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza, and Fiddler’s Four Cheese Pizza. The Italian Sausage Pizza was loaded with toppings, and the pizza sauce was incredible.

Aside from that, they have chicken pot pie, pork chop with mashed potatoes, and Crispy Pata. Fiddler’s also has Thai dishes, such as pad thai, massaman curry, and Thai fried rice.

Take a satisfying sip of bubbly Draft beer, amaretto sour, espresso martini, and more

If you’ve never tried draft beer before, you are missing out. But don’t worry; you can take a big gulp of premium draft beer at Fiddler’s Cebu. Draft beer is more carbonated than regular beer. It’s also smoother and not that strong which makes it perfect for those who like casual drinking.

We got to taste both of Fiddler’s draft beers on offer, which is a local brand called Bauhinia Brewery; the Pilsner and the Indian Pale Lager. The Pilsner is sweeter than the Indian Pale Lager. Meanwhile the Indian Pale Lager is bittersweet and has a herbal or earthy after-taste.

Aside from the draft beers, Fiddler’s also offers amaretto sour, whiskey sour, and espresso martini. If you love coffee then you will fall head over heels with the espresso martini. The coffee taste is strong but it’s not too bitter. It’s smooth and is actually quite a lovely drink. It might have been Team Sugbo’s favorite, second to the IPL (Indiane Pale Lager).

High-quality Equipment + Amazing Local Bands = Higher Quality Entertainment

People don’t just head to Fiddler’s for the food, but also for the live bands. Fiddler’s prides itself with its higher quality entertainment because the owner really invests in high quality equipment. From instruments to amplifiers, best believe that all of it are of the best shape and quality.

The resto-bar also invites talented local musicians to perform for guests. The owner wants Fiddler’s to be an avenue for musicians to showcase their talents. It’s not just a place for good food, but it is home for musicians and music lovers alike.

Fiddler’s is THE place to be on a Friday night as you kickstart your weekend. With their delicious food, cold drinks, and amplifying performances, Fiddler’s Cebu is your new go-to spot to chill and vibe.

What are you waiting for? Spend your day or night off with a bang at Fiddler’s Cebu.

Potato Corner Apologizes for the Controversial Job Posting

Potato Corner was on the hunt for the next Miss U! No, not really. They are, however, looking for service crew members who meet certain physical criteria. And boy, are those qualifications specific!

Potato Corner, a popular snack business, is in hot water after a job posting for a soon-to-open branch went viral due to its discriminatory recruiting demands.

Then deleted post from Potato Corner Facebook Page

Apparently, the branch prefers “visually appealing” employees with a “pleasing personality.” They also want them to be of proportionate weight and have a clear complexion, good eyesight, and a good set of teeth.

Social media users quickly slammed the post, accusing Potato Corner of discriminating against people based on their appearance. Others who commented laughed that the job posting was for a beauty pageant rather than a fast-Food restaurant position.

Potato Corner has eventually apologized for the job advertising, calling it a “well-meaning but insensitive” mistake. The company stated that it does not support or condone discriminatory employment practices and is dedicated to promoting an inclusive environment.

“We deeply regret the oversight in the job posting,”

said Potato Corner.

“We, together with our business partners, are working to ensure that such incidents will not happen in the future.”

The company additionally explained that the job advertisement was not authorized by its headquarters and is working to avoid similar events in the future.

When it comes to hiring, the Potato Corner serves as a reminder of the importance of being mindful of our language and behavior. Even seemingly harmless language can have a discriminating influence, and we must be cautious of how our words affect others.

We all have a part to play in making our society more inclusive, including being sensible and sensitive to our employment practices. We can contribute to ensuring that everyone, regardless of looks, has the opportunity to accomplish this by being proactive about fostering an inclusive environment.
