Consolacion lauded for using hi-tech tracker app amid GCQ

The Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) has praised Consolacion, Cebu for using a hi-tech tracker,Conan, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered application that tracks residents within the municipality during the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Titus Borromeo, the OPAV spokesperson, said in a statement that the Conan app is helping Consolacion keep track of the movement of its residents as part of the efforts to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (CoVID-19).

The application would help monitor the resident’s locations on a particular day.

“Quarantine passes are scanned every time the holder goes through checkpoints, which would be downloaded to the database,”

– Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado

Through Conan’s location logger, the database would help health authorities in the contact tracing efforts in case they discovered positive CoVID-19 patients within the town.

The app can also help the members of the Philippine National Police in scanning the workers’ permit and authority to operate of businessmen upon passing through the checkpoints.

The Conan app comes with an automated chat assistant (m.me/LGUConsolacionCOVID19AI) that provides quick responses to queries related to CoVID-19 as well as updates from the Consolacion Municipal Hall.

The system is available 24/7 for better monitoring.

Cloud formation in Cebu shows ‘image of Jesus’ on Sunday afternoon

“Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory,” Mark 13:26.

To someone who has strong faith, the aforementioned could be the explanation of this beautiful photo. On the other hand, if you’re someone who is into nature, this cloud formation could just be another piece of art. If you’re both, this could pretty much draw a lot of meaning. Nonetheless, this beauty is worthy to be captured. From how I see it, it gives me hope.

With the pandemic brought by COVID-19, this may represent salvation. We will soon be facing the new normal because He will heal.

This photo by Giefril Santander Berjame from Cabancalan, Mandaue City has caused us a stir, but may our Faith in Him never waver. Let’s not lose hope. This too shall pass.

Cebu mayors appeal to lift ban on motorcycle back-riding

Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas of Talisay City, Vice Mayor Nicepuro Apura of Carcar City, and Mayor Joannes Alegado of Consolacion town appealed to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to lift the ban against motorcycle back-riding.

According to these mayors, allowing back-riding would help address the problem on lack of transport services in their respective areas.

The ban on motorcycle back-riding have started since March and was strictly implemented even between family members, to adhere to social distancing.

“Ako lang unta nga mapadayon na nga pwede mag-angkas kay mao na ang main transportation sa city (Talisay) especially for family members. Hopefully, they can reconsider their position,”

– Talisay City Mayor Sam Gullas

Vice Mayor Apura has assured that measures will be implemented to prevent traffic congestion at the border checkpoints where proof of relations is presented.

Mayor Alegado also prefers motorcycle taxis or “habal-habal” over four-wheeled vehicles where social distancing is often not observed.

Motorcycles are a big part of the life in the city and of the whole province of Cebu so this plea would go a long way in easing the day-to-day struggle of every Cebuano.

The Province of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu City have been placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) while Cebu City and Mandaue City are on extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 31, 2020.

Japan might pay half of your travel expenses to jumpstart tourism

The coronavirus outbreak has left a lot of people wondering when are they taking the time to travel again.

With airlines cancelling their flights, cruise ships suspending their schedules, and countries closing their borders, a lot of people have put their summer plans on hold. While the government is looking for ways to flatten the curve, other countries have also been looking for ways to boost not only their economies, but also their tourism.

Japan, for instance. In a news conference, The Japan Times, Hiroshi Tabata of the Japan Tourism Agency said that the Japanese government is planning to allocate $12.5 billion for a reimbursement program.

Though the government has not specified the program just yet, they said that the reimbursement program may set on July if infection rates continue to decline.

Japan has reported a 99.9% drop from the previous year making them so eager to boost their tourism industry. Especially now thay the 2020 Olympics has been postponed, Japan is hoping to boost their tourism after its downfall. As of writing, Japan has still closed their borders, banning foreigners to enter their country.

Last month, Sicily in Italy announced a new program to reimburse travelers for their trips, covering half of their flight and a third of their hotel expenses. Japan is only one of the countries who have announced their plans to boost tourism.

NASA picks Filipina Reese Lansangan’s song for #LaunchAmerica campaign

Reese Lansangan’s song about space and exploration will be heard by the universe.

#LaunchAmerica campaign aims to introduce a new era of spaceflight that returns the ability to launch astronauts to the United States.

With this, NASA tapped Filipina Singer-Songwriter to share ‘A Song about Space’ off her debut record Arigato, Internet! for their campaign.

⁣My face got a one-second feature on @NASA’s official Youtube channel, no big deal 🤷🏻‍♀️🌜☄️🚀🛰…????⠀ ⠀ One day over lunch, I got a DM from NASA (yep, the one with 57M followers…) and I almost choked on my water. NASA sliding into my DMs, now there’s something I never thought I’d see! They said they loved my super old and embarrassing “A Song About Space” video from my channel and asked if they could possibly use it for a promo vid. Nothing was set in stone so after I got over the immediate shock of the NASA DM, I just silently hoped for the best. Then I got an email back with the video link, and in my pride I took all the screencaps! I always get teased for that old Space video of mine because 1) I still had braces & 2) I lisped (lithped) – but each time I thought about taking it down, I couldn’t bring myself to. I figured it’s part of my history & it’s fun to make fun of yourself every now and then! Little did I know, it would be the video that NASA would notice and end up watching… it just blows my mind!⠀🤯🤯🤯 ⠀ I guess there’s a lesson in there somewhere – to honor yourself always – your lovable, bewildering, sometimes even embarrassing self! So from the bottom of NENE REESE’s heart – a sincere thank you to the universe for this tiny, tiny victory. (ALSO 🔗 click link in bio to watch a redheaded Reese lisping in song) . . 📷 @marecollantes

To join and support this campaign, NASA is encouraging all the space fans who are either:

  • Building homemade rockets
  • Taking selfies in space suits
  • Writing odes to the stars
  • Or in whatever creative way you can show your support

Share your photos and videos on social media and use the hashtag #LaunchAmerica for a chance to be featured.

“‘A Song About Space’ is my open letter to the universe. I feel like a lot of us have that innate fascination for space and what’s beyond us, what’s beyond Earth, and I just wanted to translate my curiosity into a simple but catchy song.”

‘Your Name’ and ‘Weathering With You’ creator hints new movie project

Your Name and Weathering With You are those animated films that are so heart-wrenching and aesthetically made that we just can’t get enough of them.

These anime films are truly a masterpiece by the acclaimed director-creator Makoto Shinkai and brace yourself for he is hinting on another new film project and I just hope that our hearts are prepared for it.

Makoto Shinkai

Shinkai have shared a photo showing his work in progress.

“I’m gradually assembling my new work while following the pace of the production of ‘Weathering With You’ three years ago. I don’t have the brainpower to imagine the story, the characters, and the visuals all at once, so I’ve been working on it for months and months, trying to build it up and break it down again. It’s already early summer…”

– Makoto Shinkai

We might be waiting years for the film to finally hit the screens but I bet as its predecessors it will be worth the wait.

Beat the Heat with this homemade Magnum Ice Cream recipe

Even if PAG-ASA says we’re not experiencing summer, with the scorching heat of the sun, apologies, but we’ll have to disagree.

Days burn like matches and the next thing we know, we’re already in our last few days of May. Being in lockdown, it’s not a doubt that the weather has been extremely hot these past few days.

An ice cold water is not enough to quench our thirst. An ice cream, maybe? But, it’s going to cost us a fortune especially if we do it every single day. Hence, we’ve got something for you.

Indulge yourselves with this wonderful treat – Magnum. But hey! We mean, ‘HOME-MADE’ Magnum ice cream. Want to know how? Keep on reading!

PROCEDURE:

1. You got to prepare the ingredients first!

  • 2 cups of Whipping Cream (or full cream milk)
  • 1/2 cup of Condensed Milk
  • 1 tsp of Ovalette
  • a dash of Vanilla Essence
  • 350g of Dark or Milk Chocolate

2. Blend the whipping cream, condensed milk, ovalette, and vanilla essence (using a blender) until soft and fluffy.

3. In a pot, boil some water and place an empty bowl over it.

4. Put your chocolate in the bowl and double boil it. Once chocolate melts, let it cool to room temperature.

6. Add the ice cream mixture into the ice cream packet.

7. Place it in the freezer for 5 to 6 hours.

8. Don’t forget to enjoy!

Cebuano makes ‘DIY Drone’ a.k.a. Cellphone on Airplane Mode (literally)

Filipinos sure have a lot of creative juices, especially during lockdown.

Eljem Po Gio from Tabogon, Cebu posted on Facebook some interesting ‘aerial shots’ of their place. If you think he’s using a drone, I’m sorry to burst your bubble. He attached his phone on a kite and took photos.

Who would have thought that you need not to shell a huge amount from your savings to buy yourself a drone? I mean, we all know the difference of the quality and on how we couldn’t really navigate the kite as much as we could with the drone. But hey, they sure serve the same purpose. After all, we wouldn’t want to waste our money during quarantine, so, this is a fun alternative.

Though we don’t encourage you to do the same, we just want to share to you how our fellow Cebuanos are actually spending their time during quarantine. We all have our own little ways to have fun, this is his.

okay pata? 😂
