modified gcq in cebu-1

Certainly the past kind of travels and leisure will not be possible soon but those simple activities we’ve missed are certainly attainable during the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

A haircut, dine-in service and a movie are just among the activities to look forward to under the government’s latest guidelines.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) allowed the said activities under its revised Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines. (Resolution 38, Series of 2020)

Allowed activities in the resolution are:

  • Movie screenings,
  • Concerts,
  • Sports events
  • Entertainment activities
  • Religious gatherings (depending on the appropriate iatf guidelines for it)
  • Barber shops, salons and other personal-care services
  • Dine-in services .

NOTE: Considering that only 50 percent of the venue or seating capacity of such events will be allowed

Banned activities under ECQ, MECQ and GCQ:

  • Gyms and sports facilities
  • Kid amusement
  • Libraries and archives
  • Museums and cultural centers
  • Tourist agencies and tourists destinations

The areas most likely to be placed under MGCQ are those which are already under GCQ.

A Swiftie would either buy the same exact clothes that Taylor wears, cop her style, or sing her songs. But, one Swiftie stood out from the rest because she sings so much like her idol, Taylor Swift.

A self-confessed Swiftie, Kemrie Barcenas, has posted Taylor’s “Back to December” and “Love Story” which both went viral. Swifties immediately dubbed her the “Taylor Swift ng Pinas” and that’s such a compliment!

Listen to her sing Taylor’s songs and you’ll be the judge. Though I’ll bet we’re on the same page.

GCash sees 200% increase of installation amid pandemic

The need for the Philippines to become a digital nation has never been more pronounced than it is during this pandemic. Globe pushes for digital empowerment in customer care.

While the community quarantine has prompted many Filipinos to remain at home, people turned to digital technologies to cope with the challenges and continue managing their daily lives. This accelerated its adoption and habituation at a speed that would not have been achieved under normal conditions.

With over 91 million mobile and broadband customers who rely on Globe Telecom to keep their families connected, their businesses running, and make work from home possible, the company’s digitalization efforts have proven their value in being able to serve its customers amidst the crisis.

Despite the decrease in manpower that is able to come in and serve at the frontline during the community quarantine, Globe’s digital channels have enabled its customers to interact with the brand and manage their accounts, including purchases of prepaid load and promos at any time of the day, without the need to talk to customer service representatives.

“Taking care of our customers is crucial to us, regardless of situation. While we provide connectivity and solutions to enable what is important in their lives during times of crisis, we also want to make sure we are able to provide options so our customers can interact with us with ease and feel cared for in the safety of their homes,”

said Rebecca Eclipse, Globe Chief Customer Experience Officer

Globe was able to continue serving its customers through its digital channels such as GlobeOne, Globe At Home, GCash, and TM apps which can be downloaded from Play Store for Android and App Store for iOS.

Figures show that GlobeOne daily app installations increased by 65% since the enhanced community quarantine started in March. As of May, active users have already increased by 50%.

GlobeOne App allows Globe Postpaid, Globe myBusiness, Prepaid, and TM customers to monitor their account, track their usage, request for service modification, pay their bill, as well as monitor and redeem their Globe Rewards. Prepaid customers can also purchase load and register to promos.

TM customers may use the TM App to check their load balance and history, register to their favorite TM promos, monitor data usage and promo subscription, check available rewards points, and chat for after sales inquiries.

Majority of Globe At Home Broadband customers, on the other hand, now use the Globe At Home App, with the number of registered users jumping from 1.1 million in March to 1.4 million by April 30. Aside from tracking data usage, paying bills, or registering to promos, customers can perform basic troubleshooting using the app and request for an onsite visit.

The GCash App also saw a 200% increase in the number of installations from March 15 to April 15 and a 250% growth in the number of app registrations for the same period, making it one of the top five most downloaded apps in android. This surge was driven primarily by the people’s need for contactless alternatives to sending money and paying bills.

GCash has also partnered with government agencies and local government units for money distribution such as the Social Amelioration Program for Angkas, Joyride, and Grab riders of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB); and Makati’s Makatulong 5K for 500,000 residents.  It also serves as a donation platform for various private and non-government organizations.

The GCash app makes transactions easier, safer, and faster under the current environment as it can  be used to buy load, pay bills, pay for goods and services, do bank transfers, and send money without leaving the home.

Consolacion lauded for using hi-tech tracker app amid GCQ

Municipality of Consolacion Cebu

The Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) has praised Consolacion, Cebu for using a hi-tech tracker,Conan, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered application that tracks residents within the municipality during the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Titus Borromeo, the OPAV spokesperson, said in a statement that the Conan app is helping Consolacion keep track of the movement of its residents as part of the efforts to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (CoVID-19).

The application would help monitor the resident’s locations on a particular day.

“Quarantine passes are scanned every time the holder goes through checkpoints, which would be downloaded to the database,”

– Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado

Through Conan’s location logger, the database would help health authorities in the contact tracing efforts in case they discovered positive CoVID-19 patients within the town.

The app can also help the members of the Philippine National Police in scanning the workers’ permit and authority to operate of businessmen upon passing through the checkpoints.

The Conan app comes with an automated chat assistant (m.me/LGUConsolacionCOVID19AI) that provides quick responses to queries related to CoVID-19 as well as updates from the Consolacion Municipal Hall.

The system is available 24/7 for better monitoring.

Cloud formation in Cebu shows ‘image of Jesus’ on Sunday afternoon

“Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory,” Mark 13:26.

To someone who has strong faith, the aforementioned could be the explanation of this beautiful photo. On the other hand, if you’re someone who is into nature, this cloud formation could just be another piece of art. If you’re both, this could pretty much draw a lot of meaning. Nonetheless, this beauty is worthy to be captured. From how I see it, it gives me hope.

With the pandemic brought by COVID-19, this may represent salvation. We will soon be facing the new normal because He will heal.

This photo by Giefril Santander Berjame from Cabancalan, Mandaue City has caused us a stir, but may our Faith in Him never waver. Let’s not lose hope. This too shall pass.

Cebu mayors appeal to lift ban on motorcycle back-riding

Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas of Talisay City, Vice Mayor Nicepuro Apura of Carcar City, and Mayor Joannes Alegado of Consolacion town appealed to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to lift the ban against motorcycle back-riding.

According to these mayors, allowing back-riding would help address the problem on lack of transport services in their respective areas.

The ban on motorcycle back-riding have started since March and was strictly implemented even between family members, to adhere to social distancing.

“Ako lang unta nga mapadayon na nga pwede mag-angkas kay mao na ang main transportation sa city (Talisay) especially for family members. Hopefully, they can reconsider their position,”

– Talisay City Mayor Sam Gullas

Vice Mayor Apura has assured that measures will be implemented to prevent traffic congestion at the border checkpoints where proof of relations is presented.

Mayor Alegado also prefers motorcycle taxis or “habal-habal” over four-wheeled vehicles where social distancing is often not observed.

Motorcycles are a big part of the life in the city and of the whole province of Cebu so this plea would go a long way in easing the day-to-day struggle of every Cebuano.

The Province of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu City have been placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) while Cebu City and Mandaue City are on extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 31, 2020.

1 Japan to subsidize next travel

The coronavirus outbreak has left a lot of people wondering when are they taking the time to travel again.

With airlines cancelling their flights, cruise ships suspending their schedules, and countries closing their borders, a lot of people have put their summer plans on hold. While the government is looking for ways to flatten the curve, other countries have also been looking for ways to boost not only their economies, but also their tourism.

Japan, for instance. In a news conference, The Japan Times, Hiroshi Tabata of the Japan Tourism Agency said that the Japanese government is planning to allocate $12.5 billion for a reimbursement program.

Though the government has not specified the program just yet, they said that the reimbursement program may set on July if infection rates continue to decline.

Japan has reported a 99.9% drop from the previous year making them so eager to boost their tourism industry. Especially now thay the 2020 Olympics has been postponed, Japan is hoping to boost their tourism after its downfall. As of writing, Japan has still closed their borders, banning foreigners to enter their country.

Last month, Sicily in Italy announced a new program to reimburse travelers for their trips, covering half of their flight and a third of their hotel expenses. Japan is only one of the countries who have announced their plans to boost tourism.
