Cebu Province opens over 100 tourism establishments

A total of 123 accommodation establishments, restaurants, and water transport services have opened in Cebu Province.

This is after they have been issued a Certificate of Compliance (COC) since September 2020. These establishments have been proven to have complied with the basic health requirements by the Provincial Tourism Task Force (PTTF) based on the guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) and the Provincial Ordinance enforcing tourism protocols.

5th District Provincial Board Member Andrei “Red” Duterte authored the ordinance supporting what was issued by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on July 23, 2020; the Executive Order no. 20-A.

 Some of the tourism activities that have been allowed to re-open are:

  • Alegria Canyoneering
  • Barili All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)
  • Cordova Island Hopping
  • Anjo World
  • Danasan Eco-Adventure Park
  • Snow World
  • Whaleshark Watching
  • Moalboal Island Hopping and Diving

These activities can be booked online through the Cebu Province’s official tourism portal: http://discover.cebu.gov.ph/.

On the other hand, water tourist transports like motorized and non-motorized boats are to secure their Certificate of Authority to Operate (COA) from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MIA). However, they must secure and comply the requirements from their respective Local Government Unit (LGUs).

Ybanez further clarified that the centralized digital booking portal discover.cebu.gov.ph is exclusive to “destinations, sites, and tourism activities.” Confirmation codes in the portal are system generated.

For accommodation, guests must book directly to the accredited establishments. Proof of booking may be in the form of an e-mail or a receipt. No other travel documents will be required to travel.

BY BUS: Head on to the North Bus Terminal in Cebu City. Ride a van headed for port of Maya in Daanbatayan (fare is P160-P200 and takes around 6 hours of travel). Upon arrival at Daanbantayan, ride a boat to Malapascua (fare around P100). Once in the island, you can either walk to Neverland (around 25 minutes) or take a habal-habal (P40 fare per person).

Bantayan tourism reopens; no more strict border controls within the island

Effective on October 17, 2020, there will be no more strict border controls for the Island of Bantayan.

To those who are not yet aware, Bantayan Island is composed of three municipalities: Sta. Fe, Bantayan and Madridejos. They each had different restrictions and controls which caused confusion to its residents’ movement within towns and residents who are coming into the island.

This issue has finally been addressed when Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia sat down with the three mayors and settled the conflicts on implementation of border controls last October 16, Friday.

This action will encourage residents to visit local and neighboring tourist spots. It is also just in time for November, where people who wish to come home or plan to spend a vacation in Bantayan can have a hassle-free travel.

“As far as meeting gahapon, among nasabutan nga wala na’y mga restriction, dili na i-hamper ang movement sa tawo within MGCQ area lang,”

There will be no more quarantine pass in the movement within the island along with the pillion rides. Official Executive Order will be drafted and released by the mayors of each municipality.

Buswang Lake

For those not familiar with the lake where this new restobar sits, Buswang Lake is said to be the biggest body of freshwater in Cebu and its water comes from natural springs in the area. The term “buswang” is a Cebuano word which means “to flow out or explode from a trapped body of water”. In this case, the term is used to refer to the water flowing out from the mountainside to the lake that fundamentally forms it.

Buswang Lake is one of the main natural attractions in Asturias. Visitors can jump on a boat and explore the lake. The lake is also the venue of some special events such as banca racing. Asturias might be a silent town in the northern parts of Cebu but the development of the lake and the emergence of establishments around the area like the Buswang Restobar is expected to bring in more tourists into the town.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact location: Buswang Lake, Brgy. Old Bago, Asturias, Cebu

BY V-HIRE: You can get on a van for hire headed for Asturias at the van terminal in Ayala Center Cebu. The van will pass through the transcentral highway, which makes the journey short. Travel time is around one hour or so depending on the traffic. From the town proper, you can ride a habal-habal that will take you to Buswang Lake Restobar.

BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Buswang Lake” in Brgy. Old Bago, Asturias. Parking space is available.
