Baluarte de Argao: A Historical Beach Resort with Sea Views

0

Argao is a go-to destination in Cebu when it comes to beaches and getaways. It has many attractions that are perfect for exciting activities such as swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and other water activities.

Baluarte de Argao Beach Resort serves as one of Argao’s greatest assets because aside from stunning seaside views and relaxing beach escapades, it is also home to a portion of the history of Argao. Its historical significance is already evident in the Spanish-style structure that greets the guests as they enter the resort.

Aside from its structure, there are also surrounding buildings such as the Saint Michael the Archangel Church which was established around October 16, 1733 – one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. The historical scenery of Baluarte de Argao is definitely something that fits the tranquil atmosphere of Argao.

The historical structure of Baluarte de Argao also serves as a quaint background in the front lawn especially during events. They host various events such as wedding receptions, birthday parties, reunions, and more so event planners can include Baluarte de Argao in their list. Outside of events, Baluarte de Argao is just a regular seaside accommodation with a little twist from the past.

Baluarte de Argao Beach Resort wouldn’t be much of a beach resort if it wasn’t beside the sea. The beach is easily accessible from the rooms and guests could go back and forth without any problems. The rooms are just beside the actual Baluarte de Argao.

Its lower floor has been converted into a restaurant that gives a unique dining-in-the-past experience for the guests as it is surrounded by antiques and old decors.

A few steps away from the rooms is also a garden complete with chairs and tables where everyone can spend a relaxing time just enjoying the view of the beach and the ocean breeze.

For a relaxing getaway and little piece of the past, Baluarte de Argao Beach Resort is definitely the place to be.

Freediving lessons with BOHÉ in Mactan

0

One water sport that is steadily gaining popularity now is freediving. It’s slowly taking over the gram and our feed. So what exactly is freediving?

Freediving is a water sport that uses a person’s ability to dive and explore the underwater world using a single breath without the use of a breathing apparatus. Instead, it relies solely on the use of proper breathing and equalization techniques that will allow the diver to safely go deeper over time.

Diving in vibrant coral forests like those in Moalboal, Alegria, Santander, and Mactan will give you a different kind of peace and escape. I know, it’s quite tempting to head on to the beach now and dive but the proper and safe way to doing this would be to enroll in an introductory class on freediving.

Bohé Freediving 101 Class

“I always tell my students to focus on getting the technique right first; Depth will always follow,” – Jojo Tajanlangit II, Bohé Founder and Head Freediving Instructor

Bohé which means water in “Badjao” language is a homegrown freediving brand that emphasizes safety above all else. Beginners must invest in a proper Freediving 101 class especially if you’re planning to dive to depths under -10 meters.

This water activity is not without its dangers. Without proper training or if you’re simply relying on “Youtube University” to learn, a diver can succumb to blackouts or loss of motor control reflex (LMC) , while in water.

Bohé creates a safe and controlled environment that focuses on proper freediving technique above all else.

Class Itinerary

  • 1.5-hour lecture
  • Freediving introduction
  • Breathing techniques
  • Equalization techniques
  • Freediving gears
  • Safety signals
  • Two-hour open water regulated line dive
  • Apply and understand the basic physiology and techniques of freediving
  • Feet first and Head first line dives

Note: Advanced courses and training sessions available for those who want to go deeper, or compete.

Dive with a Tribe

“Safety in community.”

Bohé has also established a Freediving Community that can assist those interested in freediving into the sport easily as well. In the community, you can connect with previous Bohé students, discuss technique and challenges, trade gear, and schedule fun dives.

Finding and joining a freediving community is essential in ensuring your personal safety. Diving with a buddy or buddies ensure that you have someone who can potentially rescue you during water emergencies.

Freediving Gears

Bohé Freediving offers custom gear, weekend freediving classes in Mactan, and certification courses for those curious about or deeply interested in freediving.

CCLEC may extend Cebu-Cordova bridge to Mactan airport

On Sunday, January 10, the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) confirmed their intention to extend their bridge project to Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

“Yes, our company would like to pursue this project to extend CCLEX up to the airport,” said CCLEC President and General Manager Allan Go Alfon told Daily Tribune.

He added that “The skyway roughly is 7 kilometers but all are still for refinement on alignments, costs included. We’re most confident of getting support from Mayor Ahong (Chan) of Lapu-Lapu City as we look forward to collaborate with him and his team closely.”

On the other hand, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan has also mentioned that a skyway will be built to link Cordova and MCIA.

“Imagine, from SM seaside at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City to Mactan airport, you would travel in just 15 minutes,” Chan said of the skyway’s benefit.

“Timeline to start hopefully in 2 or 3 years, once all government legal and documentary requirements met,” Alfon revealed.

Once built, this bridge will help in decongesting the traffic situation of Sergio “Serging” Osmeña Jr. and Marcelo Fernan going to and from the MCIA.

Currently building the 8.5-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Exchange (CCLEX), CCLEC is a member of the MVP Group of Companies and is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).

As of October 2020, the bridge is 63.43% close to being fully-built and completed.

Northern Paradise: A Private Beach Resort in Catmon

Imagine having a paradise all to yourself.

This is what Northern Paradise Beach Resort, formerly Mini Paradise Beach Resort, has to offer to its guests. Serving as a gateway to escape the stresses of the city, this beach resort lets guests experience paradise exclusively with friends and loved ones.

Northern Paradise Beach Resort is simply a 3-storey building capitalizing on the enchanting ocean views of Catmon. There are multiple places inside the property where the views can be appreciated and most of these can accommodate multiple people at once.

There is a terrace just outside of the rooms where everybody can gather to enjoy the scenic views. It has enough space to fit a few chairs and tables for more comfort.

Just directly below it is a swimming pool that shares the same views but with a more refreshing appeal. It is an infinity pool that overlooks the ocean and is as long as the terrace, so everybody can enjoy swimming together as well.

If everybody prefers the salty waters of the sea, then they can easily slide down, literally, to the ocean directly below the swimming pool. Everything is close to one another so the group can do a little bit of pool and a little bit of sea.

The general atmosphere of this exclusive resort is very homey, something that perfectly describes a home away from home. It has the basic necessities that a regular house would have like a kitchen, comfort rooms, dining area and a place where everybody could get together.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a vacation house if they didn’t have the trusty videoke machine that Filipinos love so much. They also have a billiard pool inside as an alternative activity for the adults.

Nothing really beats quality with your loved ones and Northern Paradise Beach Resort might just be the best place to spend a vacation with everybody.

3 Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (PMVICs) open in Cebu

Three Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (PMVIC) have finally opened and are ready to serve the Cebuanos in the cities of Mandaue and Danao.

Rocket Cargo and Pink Gorilla office opened their international standard modern facility in three Cebu branches which can accommodate 200 vehicles per day. The processing time for each vehicle is only 30 minutes more than the normal vehicle registration.

These centers are just 3 of the 8 that is expected to open in Cebu.

So what exactly are PMVICs?

PMVICs are essentially the Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (MVICs) privatized through an authorization committee within the agency.

These centers will allow the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to closely scrutinize the road worthiness of all vehicles for a safer travel/drive and a big help to the environment as well when it comes to emission controls.

PMVIC Tests

  • Both 2- and 4-wheeled private vehicles
  • Lights and windows
  • Stabilizers/bushings
  • Engine brackets
  • Fluid leakages (if any)
  • Alignment (sideslip test)
  • Brakes (roller brake test)
  • Lights (headlight test)
  • Emissions (within parameters)

Note: Based on Memorandum Circular 2018-2158, rev Memorandum Circular 2019-09

It was clarified though that emission centers will continue their services catering to large vehicles and trucks.

With around a million vehicles running in Central Visayas, a one stop thorough inspection, if implemented well, would greatly benefit us on saved time and of course saved lives by eliminating road-unworthy vehicles.
