A Ray of Hope in Daanbantayan

Yolanda was one of the most devastating storms that struck the country and it washed away homes along with the future of millions of families.

In October 2014, barely a year after the storm hit the country, hope was delivered to the residents of Daanbantayan in the form of a promise.

The local government of Daanbantayan signed a memorandum of agreement with CeKo Solar, a Filipino-Korean company, to build a Solar Power Plant that will cover 25 hectares in Barangay Pajo and Barangay Tominjao. This power plant will bring an estimate of 300 jobs that will greatly help the families of the storm-stricken town recover from the tragedy.

The Solar Power Plant is a dual-purpose project that opens up opportunities for the town as well as solve its existing problems and help other nearby towns. One of the problems encountered by the people of Daanbantayan and Bantayan is the lack of power and stable electricity which causes frequent brownouts and power shortages.

The plant wouldn’t be a waste of space because the flat terrain that it will be built on is not viable for agriculture and has the perfect conditions to collect sunlight. Based on their evaluation, the area receives about 5 hours of direct sunlight every day. Moreover, this project will also become another stepping stone in the country’s pursuit for clean and renewable energy. The Solar Power Plant Project will not only benefit the residents of Daanbantayan but Cebu and the entire country as well.

The Solar Power Plant will be constructed using 80,000 solar panels, each with a lifespan of 30 years. These panels altogether will have a plant capacity of 25MW and are expected to generate about 43,800MW of energy per annum.

The goal of the project is to give the residents of Daanbantayan and the nearby towns access to a stable source of power and also provide an additional power supply to Cebu. CeKo Solar Farms Corporations initially invested P2.5 billion pesos for the project with plans to spend a total of P10 billion pesos and expand to provide a total of 100MW of power.

Currently Stopped

Before the construction of the Toledo Solar Power Plant, this was supposed to be the first power plant in Cebu and would have attracted many tourists to the town. The project was expected to be finished by June 2016 but was halted during January 2016. The project was halted for failing to meet the standards under the Milestone Approach and Renewable Energy Safety, Health and Environment Rules and Regulations. The project also faced delays because of financial issues. There are currently no further updates about the continuation of the project.

Feel the Revitalizing Natural Energy of Fern Valley Resort in Ginatilan

There’s no better way to get in touch with nature than by taking a refreshing dip in the cold waters of springs.

Fern Valley Resort provides the rejuvenating energy of nature that nature-lovers look for and what’s more, this refreshing experience can be enjoyed with friends or with the family. The main facility of Fern Valley Resort is their giant natural swimming pool that perpetually flows from a river.

The pool was formed by placing concrete embankments on both sides of the river and they even placed a long slab of concrete to create a lower tier which leads to an even deeper pool. There is also a huge extended flat area that is just shallow enough for young kids to enjoy.

Surrounding the swimming pool is a jungle of trees and other fauna which largely contributes to the natural atmosphere and the trees form canopies extending over the pools which provide ample shade to the visitors.

If you want to fully experience the pool without having to avoid the scorching heat of the sun, then it is best to visit during late afternoon. On both sides of the banks, there are native cottages perched on stilts that also provide shade from the sun and are able to accommodate large groups. Upon arrival, visitors may take a moment to relax until the intensity of the sun whittles down until it is bearable.

Moreover, these cottages are scattered all over the resort and all of them are elevated giving the cottages a great view of the pool and the nature around it which would make a great background for photoshoots.

Fern Valley Resort is a great place to spend some time communing with nature with its ambient natural surroundings. For those who prefer not being alone then spending a refreshing vacation with friends and family won’t be a problem with their giant natural pool.

How the Game ‘Among Us’ Made Strangers To Friends

0

Most of us has developed hobbies and interests that got us through the quarantine. Almost one year in and some of us became plantitos and plantitas, some learned how to perfect that dalgona coffee, some started their online shops and some caught up with their favorite shows from Netflix. While for some, there are those who didn’t think that the quarantine would lead them to new friendships.

That was the case among a group of strangers who eventually became buddies by playing Among Us, the popular game that trended couple of months ago. Among Us is an online multiplayer social deduction game where players either become a Crewmate or an Impostor. The goal of the Crewmates is to get rid of the Impostor among them, who covertly sabotages and kill the Crewmates, all while completing tasks.

Upon asking one of the members of the group, Denn, he said that the Discord group for the said game started around August 2020. “As far as I can remember, we started not more than 10 members. Since the game requires 10 players, we started recruiting people in social media from one friend to another and now we have 59 people in the channel but there are few who are now active.”

Aside from Among Us, they would also play other games like Skribl or watch movies together while livestreaming thru Discord.

The group then went on to meet each other in person once the quarantine restrictions were relatively eased around October 2020. “We decided to have an outing and it’s our first time meeting in person,” Denn said, where they went for a beach outing.

After asking if they still keep in touch these days, “Yes, after the outing we often have lunch outs pero di na kaayo mig tig duwa karon nga time kay busy na ang uban pero mag chika-chika ghapon sa Discord.”

It’s incredible that how despite an ongoing crisis, we find ways on how to make it worth our while. One thing’s for sure for these guys, the pandemic will be over soon yet their friendship will outlast that tragedy.

Sayaw River: Newest Attraction in Naga

Nature has its own way of entertaining people. Beaches flaunt wide stretches of white sand shorelines. Waterfalls marvel their spectators with their forceful water drops from towering heights. We have mountain spots that allow everyone to get amazing overlooking views.

In Naga City, a newest attraction enchants its guests with water flows that seem to dance in nature’s rhythm. Sayaw River in Lutac, Naga City is a respite for everyone who has been battling with the monotony of the work-from-home and community quarantine routines.

The place isn’t a famous river yet. Accordingly, it may be reached after a 10-minute walk from the nearest drop-off area. While the river is not very wide, its water is very tempting for a quick dip.

It is also filled with lovely formation of giant boulders. Don’t miss to strike a pose for your next Instagram upload since the surrounding vegetation makes a good backdrop for a nature-themed photo.

Feeling the vibe to groove with nature? Why not? The sound of the mini water cascades as they make a soft impact with the river’s surface is revitalizing. It is calming and therapeutic for the mind.

Naga City is primarily an industrial one, but it still has sites for tourists such as the Naga Boardwalk and Park which sits just across the shoreline. With Sayaw River slowly gaining popularity, it may help the city’s tourism industry once the place gets fully developed.

A reminder for everyone to make sure not to leave any trash behind to also give others a chance to enjoy this wonderful gift from nature.
