Café Ipil-Ipil: An elevated dining experience in Cebu City

Are you looking for some fresh air away from the city, a unique dinner experience, or just a place to have a good time? Enjoy all three at Cafe Ipil-Ipil, a hole-in-the-wall (or on-the-hill) kind of diner which is sure make your dinner a delight!

Cafe Ipil-Ipil along Cebu Transcentral Highway offers diners a refreshing experience of eating among the trees and under the stars. Their tables are set in a sloped clearing on the side of a mountain and in the midst of tall trees. This setting gives off a vibe of being immersed in the forest and one with the mountain. The tables, chairs, and benches made of bamboo, rattan, and different types of wood further add to the feeling of being one with the woods.

Diners can choose to sit higher up the slopes to enjoy a breath-taking backdrop of the mountains of Barangay Pulang Bato while eating. Imagine being served scrumptious food while admiring such an amazing view. Now, that’s something not a lot of places offer!

While there’s a feast for your eyes, the cafe also serves food and drink perfect for all kinds of company. Whether you’re out with friends, eating solo, or spending a romantic evening with your partner, you’re sure to enjoy their hot meals and fresh fruit smoothies. They even serve several cocktails that will spice up your evening even more, and if you’d rather stay off the alcohol, you can refresh with their Ipil-Ipil mocktails.

Should you decide to eat here (and you really should!), it helps to know that this next-level experience does not come with a high-level price range. Their food and drinks are all affordable – ranging from 20 to 100 pesos only per order. You can get a full meal with drinks for just under 200 pesos!

They say that the days are short in the mountains. Sure enough, nighttime comes quicker thanks to the trees and the shade from the mountain itself. However, Cafe Ipil-Ipil has already made sure you’ll still enjoy your meal after the sun has set. The lightbulbs and string lights around the cafe make sure it’s bright enough for diners to eat, walk around, and even take pictures. If anything, the cafe transforms from breath-taking in the day to cozy at night.

La Rita Floating Cottage: Swim and chill by the the sea of Bantayan Bay, Cordova

Hop onboard and let your stresses drift away on La Rita’s refined take on a floating cottage! Their spacious cottage has a huge floor area and offers guests a lot of room to move about while bonding with friends or family at sea.

The cottage is almost as big as a house, and is comprised of a dining area, the deck, a pool, and a comfort room.

The dining area has one long table in the middle with 5 wide benches surrounding it. Notably, there’s a lot of legroom to go about, which makes it easy to walk through without stumbling into the furniture or other people. The dining area is particularly perfect for boodle fights and finger-food snacking.

Beside the dining area is the deck of the cottage. It’s a wide area for walking, sitting, and gazing into the sea. Then, conveniently installed in the middle of the deck is the swimming pool. Now, in every barkada, there’s always that friend who’s afraid the ocean or the friend who can’t swim. The pool is the best fit for that friend who wishes to swim in absolute safety. It is an area lower than the deck cottage that allows water in, making a safe area where one can dip or paddle around without worry!

The cottage is purely open air, which means the scent of the sea and the spray of the saltwater freely passes through all areas of the cottage. This makes such an immersive time at sea and really brings you into the moment. At this point, you may wonder where one can get some privacy when nature calls. Fret not, as La Rita’s also has a fully functioning comfort room that doubles as a dressing room. With that covered, you are free to enjoy more of their amenities like the hammock installed onboard, and swimming with their free-to-use life vests.

10 Facts about a Filipino Dad that will make you love him more this Father’s Day

Papa. Daddy. Father. Tatay.

Whatever you call them, these are the people we know that will forever have our back. Our fathers are our rock and first defense in life, not because they look the toughest and emotionally stable, but because underneath all the tough look is a man that loves us unconditionally, a jokester, and an ally.

So, to give thanks and honor to our amazing dads this Father’s Day, we’ve gathered ten funny and relatable facts about a Filipino dad.

1. “Nya ni sugot na imong mama?”

You know you have a Filipino dad when he tells you to ask your mom’s approval first before he gives you his. This might be because our dad is just scared of our mom’s wrath but it can also be a parental technique just to mess with you.

2. “Ayaw sa pag uyab uyab diha”

A Filipino father is known for being overprotective of their sons and daughters that sometimes can be both alarming and funny at the same time. Be home on time, no drinking till you graduate college and definitely no boyfriends until you’re 30.

3. “Asa naman ka?!”

Giving updates to our Filipino dad is a must. It feels like the end of the world once you forgot to send your hourly update. Like a flood of questions coming right at you. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? When are you going home?

4. There is no such thing as Filipino time to Filipino dads

They are the only reason everything goes on schedule. They are the destroyer of Filipino time, always right on schedule or way ahead of it. They keep everyone in line and on time which is why they are always seen with their watches.

You might want to update those watches this Father’s Day by visiting Philip Stein.

Philip Stein, Upper Ground Floor, Mountain Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

5. ‘Punny’ dad Jokes

We secretly love their “punny” jokes or the famous dad jokes. They make the corniest jokes that’s so annoying that you just facepalm yourself, or laugh so hard. But there are also times that they hit a witty joke worthy of any comedian out there. Make your dad laugh on his special day by giving him one of his favorite Mandals (sandals for men) from Alberto.

Alberto, Upper Ground Floor, Mountain Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

6. Household Repair man

Got anything destroyed, broken or not working? Our father can probably fix it. They are the designated fixer, responsible for all our household repairs mostly because they love doing it. Make them happy doing what they love by buying them a tool kit from Ace Hardware.

Ace Hardware, Lower Ground Floor, Mountain Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

7. I love you = ‘k.’

If you’ve received one of those one letter replies from your dad then you are not alone. Most dads, if not all, do this. You text them a very long message or even a heartfelt one like “I love you” and they just respond to that with “k” and that is just as good as an “I love you”, so don’t feel too bad about it. instead give them those Pomade from Tuf Barbershop and you’ll probably receive a kiss and a hug.

TUF, Third Floor, Seaview Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

8. “Kahinomdom ka sauna?”

I think every parent does this. Reminding us how easy it is back in the day. They are history ambassadors using the past to teach us of how lucky we are and how to value things that we have. So while shopping, get your dad their very own Dad purse from Pacsafe and tell them that you appreciate and value everything he has done for you.

Pacsafe, Lower Ground Floor, City Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

9. “Unsa-on mani pag pindot nak?”

We all get those panic calls and messages where they have a tech emergency like not remembering their emails and passwords, navigating apps or those accidental clicks. They’re not the most tech savvy so it’s our job to teach them and guide them in the maze that is modern technology. And if you don’t want them complaining, think in advance and get them those powerbank from Techboy real quick.

Techboy, Third Floor, Cube Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

10. Accomplice against mom

Last but not the least, he’s our ultimate kasabwat/accomplice who will help us escape from mom’s watchful eyes like a best friend. Dads might be strict and overprotective but they are our lifeline too especially against the anger of our mom.

LOOK: P3.5-Billion premier residential tower in Cebu IT Park

Leading developer in VisMin Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) and joint venture partner El Camino Developers Inc recently topped off its Php 3.5 billion high-end tower, 38 Park Avenue, nestled right at the heart of the Cebu IT Park, envisioned to be among the most preferred residential locations in Cebu.

The 38-storey tower with a sales value of Php 5.5 billion is already 96% sold, showing the market’s positive response for this project. 38 Park Avenue has successfully topped off despite lockdowns due to the pandemic as construction continued following strict compliance to health and safety protocols including Covid-19 testing. This was also driven by financial support to these third-party construction workers through weekly allowances on top of daily wages during the height of the pandemic.

38 Park Avenue is the first phase of the three-phased mixed-use development within a 1.2-hectare property in the highest valued location in Metro Cebu. Set to start turnover by Q4 2021, the development offers upscale residential units and a lifestyle center within The Plaza, a generous park space with retail area. The next phases are currently under the planning stage.

The mixed-use development is inspired by New York City’s high-end residential towers and is developed and managed by CLI in partnership with El Camino Developers Inc., a consortium of five homegrown property companies composed of Gothong Southern Properties, Acrissor Development Corp., 12Sika Holdings Corp, RKP Property Holdings Inc. and Cebu Landmasters.

38 Park Avenue offers 764 units with 459 studio units, 230 one-bedroom units, 56 two-bedroom units, 11 three-bedroom units and eight penthouse units. All units have been laid out around a soaring atrium that infuses light and energy to the entire development, according to top architectural firm Aidea Philippines and international design consultant Callison RTKL.

CLI chief operating officer Franco Soberano says: “38 Park Avenue’s distinct sustainable design, its generous mixed-use masterplan and premium location within the Cebu IT Park ensure that it will offer a new residential option not only for Cebuanos, but also for business and leisure travelers from other global markets. The Cebu property market remains to be one of the bright spots in the region with sustained demand and highly resilient property values.”

The project anticipates the quick recovery of Cebu and the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao with the return of greater global mobility. COVID cases in Cebu have been relatively well managed with medical facilities able to accommodate patients affected by the pandemic.

In the past two years, CLI has emerged as the leading residential developer in the Visayas and Mindanao, present in 15 key cities in the region. Soberano pointed out that premium residential offerings in the heart of Cebu’s highly active business district have also been in demand.

38 Park Avenue is set to feature a Sky Club on the 26th and 28th floors, 8 elevators, a Grand Atrium, 3-level basement parking, 2 high ceiling lobbies – with one each in the East and in the West Wing. The project also has a fitness gym, lounge areas, swimming pool, multi-function hall.

The project ensures safety and convenience through its other services including 24-hour security, CCTV system, 100% backup power, fire detection and property management services.

38 Park Avenue was awarded as the Best High-End Condominium Development in Cebu for 2019 by the 7th Annual Property Guru Philippines Property Awards.
