Who would have thought that this Filipina could earn almost PHP200,000 a month by picking fruit?
This is the work of 23-year-old Pinay, Mariel Larsen, who is based in Australia for four years where she also married an Australian fruit picker.

To help her husband, Mariel also took the job as a fruit picker and she now earns AU$ 3,000-6,000 per month, around PHP115,000-231,000 per month.
Mariel shared that what they do is not simple because they fill large bins with fruit. Each container needs to be filled with 300-500 kilograms of fruit that cause a bad back pain, especially standing all day carrying heavy fruit bags.

According to the Filipina, they have a routine every year where they regularly go to a certain farm in Australia where there can pick different fruits.
Because they work in a field in different places, Mariel’s family lives in a camper van. This way, it is convenient for them to go to different orchards.
Mariel also shared that she and her husband are working very hard now toward their dream to build their own house in the next three years especially since they have a 5-year-old son.

Truly a historical moment in the local entertainment industry. ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema movies will be airing on GMA-7 in an unusual collaboration between the rival networks.
Alone/Together, featuring top ABS-CBN love combination Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, It Takes a Man and a Woman, starring John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, and Hello Love Goodbye, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, are among the Star Cinema films planned to show on GMA-7.
A virtual contract signing was held on Tuesday, April 5, with GMA executives Gilberto Duavit Jr, Philip Yalung, Annette Gozon Valdes, and Joey Abacan present, alongside ABS-CBN executives Carlo Katigbak, Mark Lopez, Cory Vidanes, and Ricardo Tan Jr.
We’re very pleased because the significance of our partnership today ushers in possibility of a far broader set of conversations, potential partnerships and cooperation that will have the benefit not only mutually to GMA and ABS-CBN but as importantly, if not perhaps more importantly, the benefit of the public we both serve—the Filipino viewer,
GMA Network President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.
Every storyteller’s dream is to have as many people as possible experience their creations. And now, because of the kindness of our friends at GMA, we have the special opportunity to bring our Kapamilya stories to a new audience.
The partnership between the two networks comes nearly two years after ABS-CBN went off-air to comply with the cease-and-desist order of the National Telecommunications Commission.
ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal was later blocked by the House of Representatives in July 2020, forcing the network to find new platforms for its shows and content.

Located in the mountains of Sibugay, Cebu City, Lily of the Valley Mountain Farm and Resort is a retreat spot just 40-50 minutes away from the city but it looks like a whole new environment entirely.

Its isolation from the city with everything green for neighbors is a guarantee that it will be the perfect place to chill, relax and enjoy together with family and friends.
Aside from its stunning view of nature, it has these native ‘payags’ that seem to be bowing to the landscape itself, bringing in the vibe of being one with nature.
It’s a sight to behold indeed as you won’t expect it to have that big space especially if you consider the traditional payag or nipa huts. But they were able to make something beautiful and elegant by seemingly connected “payags” making one big longhouse.
And although they may seem rustic and native, they have very modern amenities and facilities inside.

Microplastics have been found in human blood by researchers.

This plastic pollution problem on the earth is getting worse and has moved on from the oceans, land, and animals to us.
Scientists are now warning us that microplastics, tiny pieces and mostly invisible, will be making their way into human organs soon.
Blood samples from 22 anonymous, healthy volunteers were examined in a Dutch study published in the Environment International journal and they found microplastics in nearly 80 percent of the volunteers.
Photo from Louisa Gouliamaki / AFP
Quantitative results
50% of the blood samples showed traces of PET plastic (widely used in drinking bottles)
More than 1/3 had polystyrene (mostly used for disposable food containers)
“This is proof that we have plastics in our body—and we shouldn’t,”
– DICK VETHAAK, AN ECOTOXICOLOGIST AT VRIJE UNIVERSITEIT AMSTERDAM
The ecotoxicologist also said that this is the first time that they have actually been able to detect and quantify the microplastics in human blood and called for further research to investigate how it could be impacting health.
Detection will now give rise to many questions like where will it go in our body and can it be excreted or eliminated
Possible route entry of microplastics into the body are via
air
water
food
particular toothpastes
lip glosses
tattoo ink

The study also stated that it is scientifically plausible that plastic particles may be transported to organs via the bloodstream.
With blood linking everything in our body, we could only assume that the microplastics are anywhere inside us. We must not wait to physically see or experience the drastic effects of plastics inside our bodies and learn to minimize using them.

These days, one of everyone’s childhood favorite books, the Guiness World Records, have been making a buzz in social media, particularly when the prestigious organization debunked a claim made by simply commenting, “This information is incorrect.”, netizens have been going back and forth regarding the fiasco.
Photo from Guinness World Records Website
But did you know, that there are numerous times our country has managed to make it to the said list? Well, here are some of the actual Guinness World Records that Filipinos hold as of writing:
1. Largest Zumba class
Since it became a trend in the Philippines, Zumba has become a staple activity for many Filipinos, especially to women. With Zumba classes both being conducted indoors and outdoors, the dance exercise is a hit for many, and 2018, the local government gathered 13,350 people for a Zumba class as part of the Kaogma Festival in Camarines Sur. This officially became the largest Zumba class ever, where previous record holders Mandaluyong and Cebu, having 12,975 and 8,232 participants respectively, were beaten.

2. Longest barbeque
Filipinos and their affinity with barbeque is probably serious without a doubt. With barbeque junctions all over the streets, it only took some time for Filipinos to come up of setting the longest barbeque in the world. In 2014, the people of Bayambang, Pangasinan created the longest barbecue measuring 8,000 meters. By achieving this feat during the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the city during the Malangsi Fish-tival, around 50,000 kilograms of fish were grilled that day.

3. Longest commute for a city
The Philippines is probably one of the worst countries to commute in, and the record Manila made back in 2015 attests this. According to a 2015 study by traffic app Waze, commuters in Manila spent an average of 45.5 minutes on a one-way journey in the city. Even though the record was officially stamped in GWR in 2015, heavy traffic and the overall commute experience has already been a significant problem for Filipinos for many years now.

4. Largest Papal crowd
The Philippines is one of the largest Catholic countries in Asia. With more than 80% of its population being Roman Catholics, it is no surprise when the late Pope John Paul II visited in the country last 1995 that he was flocked by Filipino devotees. With an estimate of 4 to 5 million Filipinos attending the visit at the Luneta Park, it set the record for the largest papal crowd in the world ever.

5. Greatest robbery of a government
This is without a doubt one of the most infamous records that a Filipino has ever held. Back in 1986, the GWR named late dictator Ferdinand Marcos for the greatest robbery of a government, the same year he was ousted during the 1986 EDSA Revolution. “The total national loss from November 1965 was believed to be $5–$10 billion,” the website read. But as of March 2022, the page was taken down from the website with the reason of reviewing the title and re-examining records to ensure they are up to date and accurate. They further emphasized that the move was to verify the claim and, that they “do not dispute this record as a historical fact, nor are we disputing that we monitored the record title and published it in our books and online.”

So, there you have it. What do you know that are other feats of Filipinos that have actually made it to the Guiness World Records but not on this list?
