Exact location: Brgy. Sayaw, Barili, Southern Cebu — approx. 2.5 hours away from the city.

  • BY BUS: You can reach Sayaw Beach by getting on a bus headed to Barili at the Cebu South Bus Terminal. Travel time is around 2 hours. It is advisable to take the 7:00 AM bus so you’ll have a long day at the beach. You may stop at Shamrock for breakfast. From Shamrock, you can ride on a motorcycle for hire to Sayaw Beach.
  • BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Sayaw Beach Resort” in Barili. Parking space is available.

By Commute: From the North Bus Terminal, take the bus bound to Carmen. Fare starts at Php 75.00 and above, depending on the type of bus, whether it’s the aircon or non-aircon option. Once you arrive at the Carmen Bus Stop, take a motorcycle or habal-habal going to the beach house. Fare starts at Php 20.00. Overall travel time will range between 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the traffic.

11. ARANZANA NATURAL SPRING

Tucked away among the towering trees of the Malabuyoc forests is a hidden gem for adventurous souls. Aranza Natural Springs is a breathtaking collection of springs surrounded by the lush greenery of Barangay Aranzana, Malabuyoc.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact Location: J8WP+V2R, Malabuyoc, Cebu

  • By Car: Navigate via Waze or Google Maps and pin the location “Aranzana Natural Spring.” Find the town’s sole Western Union Money Transfer location. That building is directly next to a road. Once you notice a fork, continue driving for a minimum of one minute. Take a right turn and continue driving until you come to a large river. However, you must leave your vehicle at the coconut forest near the spring.
  • By Commute: Ride a bus in Cebu South Bus Terminal going to Malabuyoc. Then ask the driver or conductor to drop you off at Western Union. A road going to the spring is just beside the establishment. From there, ask the locals for proper directions heading to the place.

12. ESTACA SOUTH BEACH

Estaca South Beach offers the refreshing escape we all crave. Guests are welcomed with delicious traditional Filipino dishes and the invigorating embrace of its crystal-clear waters.

Originally a private retreat for the Bacalso-Sacan family in Barili, the beach has opened its gates to the public in response to demand, allowing everyone to enjoy its beautiful seaside for a fee.

14. COLON STREET

Hailed as “The Oldest National Road of the Philippines,” Colon Street is the busy metropolitan area of Cebu where tons of malls, shopping areas, food courts, and anything related to trading can be found. It was established in 1565 during the Spanish colonial period and used to have roads filled with horses, before cars were invented.

If you want to find the indication or proof of its moniker, you can head over to the Colon Obelisk where a plaque and painting is placed showing the old Colon Street with a detailed story about its establishment.

15. YAP-SAN DIEGO ANCESTRAL HOUSE

From the Spanish colonial era, we’re now jumping over to the time the Chinese took over as we visit the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House. It is known as one of the first few Chinese homes built in the Philippines. The place is filled with mementos from the era, including lanterns, clay jars, relics, and some touches of what’s left from the Spanish colonization. Upon entering its gates, you’ll see a pathway of greenery, old wooden structures, an even old set of staircases, wooden religious items, and there’s even furniture pieces that’ll bring you back in time.

20. 1730 JESUIT HOUSE

Just within the same neighborhood, you’ll find the 1730 Jesuit House where artifacts and relics can be seen. It is also one of the oldest museums in Cebu and is owned by a Chinese businessman known as Jaime Sy. Although its exteriors may seem like a warehouse, don’t be fooled because as you enter, you’ll see the beauty of history inside. Why is it called the Jesuit House? Well, because based on the items found inside and the photographs documented by Fr. William Repettu, the place used to be a headquarters for the Jesuits and based on the various coin collections found within the area, it was reported that the place could date as far back as the Ming Dynasty.

21. MAGELLAN’S CROSS

When discussing the history of the Philippines, people—whether Filipino or foreigners—often think of Magellan because he was the one who recorded his arrival in the country. To mark their presence and the start of Spanish colonization, Magellan and the Spaniards planted a large cross symbolizing the Christian faith they introduced to the local tribes and warriors. The question is: IS THE ORIGINAL CROSS STILL STANDING IN  CEBU?

22. PLAZA INDEPENDENCIA

Fun fact: The Plaza Independencia had two former names during the Spanish colonial era, the Plaza de Armas, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de María Cristina, and the Plaza Libertad when the Americans took over. But, when World War II began, a change of name was necessary to signify freedom; therefore, its new name became “Plaza Independencia.” Now, it has several historically significant monuments and is a public square for events and activities.

  • For commuters, take a bus in Cebu South Bus Terminal going to Lutopan, Toledo City. Inform the driver to drop you off at Eskina Bunga for Hidden Valley. Bus fare is ₱40 per head, while travel time is about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the traffic. From Lutopan, take a “habal-habal” (motorcycle) going to Hidden Valley Wave Pool. Two people could accommodate the “habal-habal” and each had to pay ₱60 (one-way). If you’re alone, you’ll have to pay ₱120 for the fare. Travel time is another 15-20 minutes for 14km.
  • If you’re bringing your own car, READ CAREFULLY. We do not recommend using Waze since it will take you to the longer route. However, you can use it to navigate to “Bunga, Lutopan”. You will then find a group of habal-habal a few meters after a gas station. Then take a turn to the left until you’ve reached the resort. There’s ample parking space available.

RATES

  • Environmental fee: ₱100 per person (island hopping)
  • Bus fare: ₱120 per person (one-way)
  • Boat fare: ~₱500 per person for “joiners” (roundtrip, estimated only) / Private boat costs at ₱2,500-5,000 (depends on how many you are)
  • Tent: ₱100 per tent (bring your own tent)

BOAT CAPACITY AND BOAT RATES FOR ISLAND HOPPING

  • 1 to 4 pax: Php 2,500
  • 5 to 6 pax: Php 3,000
  • 7 to 8 pax: Php 3,500
  • 9 to 10 pax: Php 4,000
  • 11 to 12 pax: Php 5,000

*Please note that Php 100 Environmental User’s Fee (EUF) shall be charged per person on top of the boat rates.

*At the moment, payments can be made at the Moalboal Tourism Office by the Municipal Treasurer’s authorized representative while the tourism portal is deactivated.

*The entire tour would be 2 to 3 hrs. Destinations are famous Pescador Island, be amazed with our unique Sardine Run, and watch or swim with the Turtles.

  • Operating hours: 6AM to 3PM daily

WHAT TO DO AND EXPECT?

  • For marine protection rules, you can take pictures but please NO TOUCHING and HARMING of the sardines, turtles, corals and other marine life. There is a municipal ordinance or administrative fine of P2,500.00 per person, per violation in any of these rules. We have “Bantay Dagat” or watchers deployed at the sites.
  • After your activities, you may rinse at the shower area. Please use your personal towels as we do not allow any towel rentals. Toilets are also available and you can use them for free.

HOW TO GET THERE?

  • From the South Bus Terminal, ride a bus heading to “Bato via Barili”. Inform the driver ahead to drop you off at Gaisano Grand Mall or the Moalboal Municipal Hall. Bus fare is ~₱120 per head (one-way), travel time is around 3 hours.
  • From either Gaisano Grand Mall Moalboal or the Municipal Hall, ride a tricycle to your hotel. Or tell the driver to take you Pinagsama Beach (since this is nearer to Pedascor Island). There’s also lot of diving shops here where you can for island hopping tours. Fare is ₱20 per person (one-way), travel time is approx. 15 minutes.
