A good time at the beach isn’t complete without a hearty feast of luscious food, right? Admit it, Filipinos have an insatiable mania of beaches and food and just the thought of these two together makes us jump out of our beds and head to the nearest beach in town.
With the easing community restrictions, more and more tourist spots and resorts have opened its doors to guests who have longed for a breath of fresh air for the longest time now. One of the newest attractions that are now accepting guests is the Estaca South Beach in Barili – a few hours drive away from Cebu City.
Estaca South Beach is indeed the kind of refreshment that we all need. The place greets its guests with delicious typical Filipino food and a cold bath in the waters embracing the area.
This house used to be a private place owned by the Bacalso-Sacan family in Barili but people are asking if they can come and enjoy the sea for a fee. Due to public demand, Estaca South Beach is now slowly opening its gates to public use.
Though the place doesn’t offer anything grand and luxurious yet, you and your family and friends would still enjoy spending the day in their bamboo cottages that seem to perch on top of the waters – giving you a superb overlooking view of the sea and the wide horizon.
Due to the pandemic, processing of the necessary business permits did not come easy but soon, showers, bathrooms and other amenities will also be up.
Their home-cooked meals are available everyday but if you have your own set of food to binge on, it’s perfectly fine. The resort doesn’t charge any corkage fee, just pay for the cottage if you bring your own food. No charges for the table though if you order food from them.
As part of the health protocols in Barili, alcoholic beverages aren’t allowed yet and everyone is encouraged to wear face masks and face shields when visiting the place.
Exact location: Sitio Estaca, Brgy. Minolos, Barili, southern Cebu — approx. 2.5 hours away from Cebu City
BY BUS: From Cebu South Bus Terminal, ride a bus heading to Barili in the South of Cebu and alight at Shamrock Terminal in Barili. From there, ride a motorcycle for hire that will take you to Estaca South Beach in Minolos, Barili.
BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Minolos Barangay Hall” in Minolos, Barili. From there, ask around how to get to Estaca South Beach in Sitio Estaca.
Started out as a quaint family-owned pastry shop in Ormoc City, Yoyi’s Pastries & Desserts is renowned for its delectable yet affordable delicacies. Over the years they evolved into a full-blown bakery and opened a branch in Cebu City (their very first outside of Ormoc).
At Yoyi’s, they aim to make celebrations extra special at a fraction of the cost! Truly living up to their adage “All the Good Things You Deserve”, they always believed that celebrations shouldn’t break the bank, thus, they offer pastries and desserts that are fit for the festivities, made with love from fresh and quality ingredients and are reasonably priced.
The continued patronage of the Cebuano people to Yoyi’s from the past few years has greatly raised the bakery up to the pedestal, and now, they’d like to invite everyone in a humble celebration of their 6th year anniversary on October 15, 2020.
From October 14 to October 18, the celebration will commence by giving back to the community. For the whole week they are giving away one (1) free 3 ply-Fibertex, non-woven active carbon washable surgical mask for every purchase of one (1) whole cake.
On October 15, for one whole day, one (1) free slice of cake will be given away to every GrabFood driver for every purchase done via Grab app (terms & conditions apply).
Six glorious years have proved to be successful. Even though these past few months were super challenging, the bakery thrives to continue serving the Cebuanos amidst the adversities brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
They strictly adhered to safety measures and protocols and practiced regular sanitation and disinfection in their store.
Yoyi’s also strengthened their own delivery service by adding GrabFood (for Cebu City orders) and Sugbo Pabili Delivery Services to stay relevant and meet the needs of the community in these trying times as most people prefer to stay at home.
“All the Good Things You Deserve” doesn’t only point out how excellent their products are, but also highlights the high-quality service they provide to their customers.
WHAT’S AHEAD?
Yoyi’s Cebu recently launched their “Specialty Cakes by Yoyi’s” series starting September up to December this year as part of their 6th Anniversary celebration.
One (1) new special cake flavor will be added to menu every month! The freshly unveiled September cake is the Dulce de Leche y Yema Cake–chiffon with a balance of traditional yema goodness and luscious dulce de leche topped with generously grated Queso de Bola cheese.
The recently launched October specialty cake is an all-time favorite. Inspired from the traditional Italian dessert, it hits the sweet teeth that are coffee lovers: the Classic Tiramisu cake–moist and fluffy layers of lady fingers soaked with espresso, then covered with dreamy cream and mascarpone and dusted with cocoa.
Specialty cakes for November and December are yet to be unveiled so be sure to keep an eye out for it in their social media!
Furthermore, an expansion plan is currently in the works. They will be expanding operations and business in Mandaue City, targeted to open for Mandauehanons very soon.
WHAT ELSE?
Aside from the specialty cakes, Yoyi’s wide variety of sweets have always been a game-changer on its own. Their best-sellers include cassava bars, choco crinkles, the Heavenly Mango Cake, the Double-Baked Blueberry Cheesecake and Mango Cheesecake. The Ube Halaya Cake is also a customer-favorite and definitely a must-try!

We all have that one restaurant that has practically raised us. And there’s this one family go-to restaurant which has grown with us and has been part of our childhood memories, Orange Brutus.
Orange Brutus has been serving Cebuanos’ childhood favorites for 40 years now, ever since their first store opened in Colon in 1980.
BEST OF CEBU
Orange Brutus is undeniably Cebu’s first favorite and flaunts a “Best of Cebu” belt to prove it.
Their products who have earned this title are their famous SIZZLING BURGER STEAK and the moist, decadent, CHOCOLATE MONSTER CAKE.
Their mouth-watering fried chicken, Chicken Brutus is also to die for and best paired with their best selling Mango Shake. Let’s not forget about their Chori burger topped with fried egg and cheese and the Chicken Burger which have raised the bar.
