A Worldwide Boy Group

Bangtan Sonyeondan or commonly known as BTS started their K-Pop idol career in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment (now known as Hybe Corporation). However, the boy group did not directly shot up to fame after their debut and struggled to make their name known.

However, in 2015, the group became internationally known. From there, the K-Pop boy group became one of the favorites in the K-Pop scene and the undisputed most famous K-Pop boy group in the world ever. Truly a worldwide sensation!
Now, the group is celebrating its 11th year in the industry and their Filipino fans have prepared an explosive event for the group’s milestone!
11 Years of Brilliance and Magic

The BTS – ARMY of Cebu will be holding a fan gathering meet this June 2024. The gathering entitled Beyond the Stars: 11 Years of Brilliance and Magic was organized to celebrate BTS’ 11th year anniversary.
The event will offer exclusive performances from guest performers, interactive sessions and special surprises to make sure that the attendees will be having an unforgettable experience. Moreover, the event will enable fans from around the Sugbo to interact and connect with each other. Unfortunately, the registration for the event closed its doors last June 20, 2024.

R&B fans, are you ready? Ne-Yo is coming back to Manila in 2024 for his ‘Champagne and Roses’ Tour. The concert will be at the Araneta Coliseum on October 08, 2024.

Wailing prisoners and eerie surroundings; guess which school in Cebu City had this creepy past?

It was believed that part of a well-known university in Cebu City used to be prison cells. Late at night, some people say they can still hear the cries of the prisoners who were once kept there.
These eerie sounds add a creepy feeling to the quiet halls of the school’s Accounting Section, making you wonder about the stories of the people who were once locked up below its academic grounds.

Many people also find a hidden part of the school interesting: its underground tunnel. This tunnel is believed to be connected by the two state universities in Cebu City.
While the school has now closed and condemned the tunnel, it used to be a secret passageway. No one knows for sure why it was built or what it was used for, but it definitely sparks a lot of curiosity.
Even though you can’t access the tunnel anymore, its story still captures the imagination of students and faculty. They often wonder what might have happened in that dark and hidden passageway as they hold the unsolved mystery of the state university.

In April 2023, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced in his Instagram account that the animated Disney movie Moana will be getting its live adaptation that will be released for the big screen.
The Story

The animated story revolves around the life of Moana. Her adventurous urge to venture to the sea, her meeting with the once-mighty demigod Maui who guided her to become a master way-finder in the seas. The movie also iterated Moana’s perilous journey with the demigod across the vast expanse of the ocean. Ultimately, at the end of the journey, Moana finds what she sought the most: her own identity.
Apparently, the live action adaptation will follow the original course of the original animated movie. The original writer of the story Jared Bush will reinstate himself to write the adaptation along with Dana Ledoux Miller.
Nonetheless, a recent press conference revealed the thoughts of the production team in retelling the box-office hit Disney movie, “Moana will bring to life in a whole new way the story of a young woman eager to pave her own path.”

The Cast
Contrary to the expectation of many, Auli’i Cravalho who was the voice of Moana in the 2016 movie will not be reprising her role as the titular princess in the live adaptation, but the actress will still be playing a hand in the team as one of the executive producers. However, the production team has recently revealed the main cast for the adaptation.

In June 2024, the production team of the adaptation revealed that the Sydney, Australia native Catherine Laga’aia will play the role of Moana.
MAUI
The original voice actor of the demigod Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will reprise his role as Maui in the upcoming live adaptation of the movie
Additionally, Chief Tui who was Moana’s father was revealed to be casted by John Tui, Moana’s mother, Sina on the other hand will be played by actress Frankie Adams. Lastly, Moana’s iconic grandmother Gramma Tala will be played by the veteran actress Rena Owen.
Funnily enough, in the Tiktok platform, we can see Bretman Rock who is a famous online celebrity and personality is trying to get the role of Moana’s favorite chicken pet, Heihei and the Moana fans are getting crazy over it!
— The production of the film will surely be a challenge to the production team, since the story revolves around an ocean setting. However, Disney has proven themselves to be good with water-like CGI and special effects in the Black Panther movie. Hence, let us just hope that Disney will be able to deliver the adaptation well. The film is set to be released on the 10th of July 2026.

Balancing Studies & Work

Regine Mae Banas was a hardworking student who needed money to pay for her tuition as she takes a caregiver course. She realized that a job in the call center industry would help her cover her school expenses and manage her studies simultaneously.
On the other hand, Lovely Potot was a custom administration graduate with a background in logistics and saw that working in BPO Jobs was related to her course. Therefore, she grabbed the opportunity as it also provided her a good income and allowed her to use her skills in a related field.
Lastly, Elijah Perez, both studying and supporting his sisters’ education, realized that working in a call center would allow him to support his family better and ensure his sisters could continue their studies without financial worries. He gets to have his own finances intact while also splurging for his siblings and fam openly.
Returning Home to Better Pay

Angel Lariosa had just returned from working abroad. She found out that the pay at call centers in her home country, the Philippines, was better than what she earned overseas. So, as a promise to herself to achieve financial stability, Angel applied and took the job.

While, mom, Gayle Oberes, found that call center jobs paid more than traditional office jobs. The difference in salary was important to her because she wanted to become financially independent and support her daughter and family.

On the 25th of June 2024, the United States of America celebrates its National Catfish Day. The festivity is aimed to celebrate the value of farm-raised catfish. However, we won’t be talking about that here! Instead, let us take a detour to the August 2023 film Marupok AF which tackles online catfishing against the LGBT community.

The term was first introduced to the English lexicon way back in 2010, when a documentary about a man living in New York City being lured into an online relationship with a 19-year old woman who used another identity to get the man’s attention. Since then, the term catfishing has been widely used when referring to people using fake identities online to catch the attention of other individuals.
A Henares Masterpiece

Quark Henares is known for his masterful film directions. From Wag Kang Lilingon in 2006 to his recently directed films like On the Job comes his recent exquisite film Marupok AF (Where is the Lie?) that was released last August 2023 in the 19th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
The film retells the true story of a Filipino trans woman being catfished online in a dark and comedic way. The characters were played by EJ Jallorina who played Janzen, Maris Racal who played Beanie, Royce Cabrera who played Theo, and Gabby Padilla who played Dina.

The story begins with Janzen Torres a trans woman who was apparently a hopeless romantic which led her to being scammed romantically in social media. The elaborate plan of catfishing was led by the sociopath bully Beanie Landridos who wanted to take revenge on the LGBT community under the grounds that she suffered bullying from the community in her early years, and was assisted by her small group of henchmen Theo Balmaceda and Dina Fontarum.
The film shows us how dangerous the online community can be, and how rampant catfishing is nowadays. Furthermore, it revealed how the LGBT community is being bullied online. The film serves as a wake-up call to us that we must be careful with whom we talk to and share information online. Moreover, this also serves as a reminder to us that our LGBT brothers and sisters are still getting a lot of hate despite the current era we are in.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus or commonly known as HIV has claimed many lives since it started in 1959. Recent statistics have shown that about 40.4 million people have died from the virus. Further studies have revealed that HIV can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) if not given the proper treatment. However, there has never been a cure for the said virus. Hence, our main concern now is to prevent ourselves from getting the virus within us.
PrEP Pills to the Rescue
Condoms during sexual intercourse or HIV tests before any sexual interactions have been done to prevent widespread HIV transmission among humans. However, these preventions were never enough and have been proven to not lessen HIV transmission among us since most people never use these preventive measures due to personal intimacy reasons and inconvenience.
However, a recent preventive measure has ensured a higher rate of effectiveness that guarantees peak intimacy and convenience.

On July 16, 2012, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis or commonly known as PrEp. This medication is a type of pill taken to prevent acquiring HIV. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention commonly known as CDC revealed that the pill to be highly effective as a preventive measure for HIV if it is taken as prescribed.
The pill’s effect are as follows:
PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sexual intercourse by about 99%.
PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from injection drug use by at least 74%.

— However, it is important to remember that although PrEP ensures a higher probability of HIV prevention, HIV tests and the usage of condoms are still advisable for much safer sexual intercourse thereby preventing oneself from acquiring HIV.
