On June 13, 2024, the Electric Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved order 2024-01MC, a game-changer that implements a four-month ‘staggered payment’ from the purchases made by power distribution facilities in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). This means that electric companies in the country will be given a four-month allowance to pay for their acquisitions, potentially lightening the financial load for many Cebuano residents.

It has Gone Down!
Due to the staggered payment, the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) will implement a decrease of Php 2.43/kWh for the June-July billing, which equates to a decline in electric bill amount of Php 486.00 for every household that has the consumption of 200 kWh—bringing the average electricity bill to Php 9.71/kWh.

However, despite this decrease, VECO President and Chief Operating Officer Raul C. Lucero advised every Cebuano residential home to be mindful of their electricity usage and still practice energy conservation.

Bantayan Island in Cebu got its name from “Bantayan sa Hari,” which means “Watchtowers of the King.” Back when Moro pirates came to the island searching for slaves, locals built eighteen watchtowers on the island to keep an eye out for pirates and protect the people from danger. So, “Bantayan” comes from the idea of watching and protecting the island.
BEST TIME TO GO TO BANTAYAN ISLAND
December to May: From December to May, the weather is nice sunny days and cool breezes; perfect for a fun time at the beach. Just remember that lots of people love this specific season too, so it might be busier and more expensive than usual.
June to November: During June to November, it might rain now and then, but here’s the good part: it has fewer tourists so you can enjoy the island without the crowds, just watch out for rain showers.
The Palawod Festival: If you’re into festivals, then come to Bantayan in June as they will be celebrating the Palawod Festival with parades and dancing. And, during Holy Week, there’s spare some gut space for the ultimate lechon meal since they are the only place where eating meat is allowed; thanks to the special agreement in the 1840 Papal Indult.
Think about what you like. If you love sunny beaches and lots of activities then go in December to May. But if you prefer a quieter vibe and don’t mind some rain then June to November is the perfect time.
HOW TO GET TO BANTAYAN ISLAND
No direct flights head straight to Bantayan Island from airports outside of Cebu, so if you’re
traveling from a different place, you’ll first need to fly into Mactan-Cebu International Airport. From there, go to North Bus Terminal and take the direct bus going to Santa Fe Bantayan, which includes a ferry ride.
Alternatively, you can also choose to take a bus that stops at Hagnaya Port, where you’ll transfer to the RoRo ferry.
FEES
The bus fare ranges from PHP 160.00 to PHP 200.00.
The RoRo ferry ride lasts about 1.5 hours and costs Php 300.00 for regular, Php 240.00 for students, Php 214.00 for Senior/PWD and Php 150.00 for Children.
Upon arrival in Santa Fe, you’ll need to pay a Php 30.00 environmental fee, which is charged to all visitors or non-residents.

Truck driver Ronald Cadivida advises fellow drivers to be patient and drive carefully. He shared, “Ang maipapayo ko lang sa mga Lalamove partner drivers ay tiyaga lang at hinay-hinay sa pagmamaneho.” (My advice to Lalamove partner drivers is to be patient and drive carefully.)

It’s really an advantage to know the routes, as you can estimate your arrival time and know which roads to avoid during rush hour.)
In the same way, Sedan driver Renante Villamor explains how to make the most of your day by planning your trips wisely. “Iwasang bumiyahe sa ma-traffic na daan kung pwede, para ‘di maubos ang gasolina at oras mo, at makarami ka ng orders.” (Avoid the most congested areas when possible to reduce fuel consumption, save valuable time, and maximize the number of deliveries you can complete.)
Maximize Deliveries in High-Demand Areas
Ronald shares his strategy of arriving early in high-booking areas, such as Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Talisay City: “Ang diskarte ko sa pagkuha ng booking, pumupunta ng mas maaga sa mga lugar na alam kong marami ang booking.” (My strategy for getting bookings is to go to places early where I know there is high demand.)
An Extra Hand Always Helps
Additionally, Ronald highlights the importance of managing stress by being patient and how hiring an assistant can save you time. “Tiyaga lang talaga at saka kuha ako ng alternative route para makaiwas sa traffic po at mayro’n din akong assistant po para mas mapadali ang kuha at baba ng booking.” (It’s about patience, finding alternative routes to avoid traffic, and having an assistant make picking up and dropping off bookings easier.)
Most Important Tip: Remember Your Why — Your Family

Maraiah Queen Arceta, better known by her stage name Aiah, was born and raised in Lapu—Lapu City, Cebu, and is a proud Oponganon! She often reminisces about her childhood, where she would spend hours dancing in her backyard, dreaming of one day performing on a big stage.

Aiah was an active performer in Cebu during her early life. She and her dance group often performed in events like Buwan ng Wika; and she loves hip-hop.

Furthermore, Aiah’s talents extend beyond performing with her dance group. She’s also a frequent participant in local pageants and a sought-after model in Cebu. In 2018, she was hailed as Miss Silka Philippines and appeared on Silka television commercials. The same year, she auditioned for Star Hunt, which was held in Cebu, and was cast as a member of ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother, showcasing her versatility and adaptability.
The Road to Becoming an Idol
In October 2019, Aiah became a trainee at Star Hunt Academy. From there, she further developed and enhanced her dancing skills. Since then, she’s been performing under the ABS-CBN management and was even fortunate enough to perform for the Manila Southeast Asian Games 2019.
