LOOK: Life-sized underwater statues in Alegria

0

It is said that it is much easier to scour space than it is to scour the depths of the seas. This is very true since there are still a lot of mysteries just waiting to be discovered underneath the vast waters.

One of the few not very known to the public is a site with underwater statues here in Cebu.

Located near the Alegria Dive Resort, these life-sized relics stood tall and proud like guardians of the sea. Seeing and circling are these sculptures are certainly worth the dive.

With a depth that’s just perfect for free diving and scuba diving beginners, this diving attraction in the southern town of Alegria is definitely something extraordinary to behold.

Trending: Fly around Cebu on a Gyrocopter

We’ve all had wonderful views and experiences from the top. But nothing beats the view from above flying a thousand miles high riding an air craft transported straight from our video games into real life.

Located in Barangay Canduling, Ronda in southern Cebu, Fly A Gyro Cebu offers short flights on a gyrocopter above Moalboal, Badian, Dalaguete, and the neighboring towns.

This gyrocopter, or more formally known as autogyro, is a rotorcraft that uses an unpowered rotor in free autorotation to develop lift and unlike helicopters, the air flows upwards through the rotor disc rather than down.

It is not for the weak-kneed for you have a chance to gaze and marvel at the beauty of Cebu through the open cockpit of a gyrocopter giving us the freedom adrenaline rush we need.

This aircraft can handle turbulence better than other fixed wing light aircrafts and they fly slower and lower, giving us more time to experience Cebu at the top.

5 Things to Do to Keep Entertained in Cebu

Cebu is one of the most popular destinations in The Philippines. Comprised of more than 150 islands and islets, as well as Cebu Island itself, there is plenty to do for anyone wanting to visit the region.

When travelling to such a distinctive and exciting location, you can be faced with a difficult decision as to what to do with your time.

Luckily, there are some must-sees and must-dos when it comes to visiting Cebu to ensure you make the most of your trip. So, what are the top five things to do to keep yourself entertained here?

Culture: Casa Gorordo Museum

The Casa Gorordo Museum is the former residence of Juan Gorordo. Built in the 1850s, the museum retains this charm and showcases many artefacts and antiquities from the entirety of the Philippines’s past. The protected house attempts to show life in the Philippines throughout the past few centuries, and will transport tourists (and locals) to a different time to give them an education on life in the country as they would never experience it.

Activities: SkyWaterpark Cebu

For those who like a more hands-on experience, the water park located atop a mall in Cebu provides a chance to both see the sights and bask in the weather.

The park is more than 1000m above ground level, and features slides, infinity pools, climbing nets, and a swim-up bar. Most places you can visit across South East Asia offer some kind of water park experience, but none quite eclipse this one at SkyWaterpark Cebu.

Nightlife: Waterfront Hotel & Casino

The Waterfront Hotel & Casino is popular with those who want to indulge in the latest that casinos have to offer. The casino offers a wide array of games – from Pai Gow and craps to baccarat, poker, roulette, blackjack, and pontoon. The atmosphere is designed to add vibrancy and can give you a night to remember regardless of how much you win.

Nature: Osmeña Peak

Located around a three-hour drive away from Cebu City is Osmeña Peak, which offers picturesque views and wonderful vistas of the surroundings mountains, the coastline, and the city that sits alongside it.

For those who like excursions, this one promises to take you out of civilisation and really allows you to reconnect with nature as you trek up the peak and explore the verdant greenery.

Socializing: Internet Cafes

While most places have accessible internet, you can choose to visit an internet café to have the chance to properly video chat with friends and family back home to tell them what you’ve been up to.

The G-7 Cybercafe, Starcube, and Mineski Infinity Banilad all offer the opportunity to go online. Connecting with home and telling them about your adventures is a key part of travelling and Cebu makes sure that there are plenty of ways to do this.

Socialising over Zoom or Skype with a game can help you stay in touch and can add an element of fun as you show them the sights or just have a chat.

Cebu has a vast range of locations for tourists to visit that show a glimpse into the history of The Philippines, as well as the high-tech aspects of the modern-day tourist trap. Whether you want to kick back at a water park, soak up some culture, or see some of the breath-taking sights, there is something for everyone.

Soon to rise: P56-billion 4th Cebu-Mactan Bridge

The 4th Cebu-Mactan Bridge is officially happening as the Philippines and Japan formalized the loan agreements amounting to a total of 154.1 billion Yen (P72 billion), for the 4th Cebu-Mactan Bridge and the Davao City Bypass Construction Project.

Japanese Ambassador Haneda Koji together with Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. signed the cooperation last June 8, 2020.

Still a part of the “Build Build Build” program of the Duterte administration, the 4th bridge has 119.2 billion Yen (P55.8 billion) of the loan set aside for it with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as its lead agency.

“The Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP) will apply to the Japanese ODA loan for the project, and it is expected that advanced Japanese technology, such as Design and construction of long-span steel box girders and Steel for Bridge High-Performance Structure, will be utilized in the project for constructing the long-span steel box girder bridge and coastal road,”

– Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

Project Objectives:

  •  To address  connectivity and mitigate traffic congestion concerns in the developing metropolitan areas of Cebu
  • To improve the capacity of the existing road network in Cebu and facilitate faster movement of people, goods and services contributing to socio-economic development
  • To provide an alternative route connecting central Cebu to Mactan Economic Zone where many export-oriented industries are located.

Building the 4th Cebu-Mactan Bridge

  • Target Completion date: January 2028
  • Composed of two components:
    • 3.3-kilometer bridge
    • 4.9-kilometer four-lane Mandaue coastal road with a 4.751-kilometer elevated viaduct

Presently, the third bridge project called Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is under construction and will be completed by 2021, in time for the commemoration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines. Read more about the CCLEX here: https://sugbo.ph/2019/in-photos-cclex-bridge/
