The Filipino language is rich with unique words that can be challenging to pronounce, especially for non-native speakers. While some words are literally a tongue twister, others are lengthy and complex. However, mastering these words can deepen your appreciation of the language and improve your fluency. Filipino is the national language of the Philippines. As it is a blend of indigenous language and foreign influence, some words are repetitive, while others are extended versions of their root words to express intensity or degree.

(The thunder was rumbling, so the child got scared.)
Learning these challenging words enhances your understanding of Filipino grammar, word formation, and cultural expressions. Many of these terms convey deep emotions or specific states, making them valuable in both casual and formal conversations.
Filipinos may have some of the most difficult words to pronounce, but practicing them helps in mastering the language. Whether it’s the repetitive “mamasa-masa” or the lengthy “pinakanakapagpapabagabag-damdamin,” each word adds depth to your vocabulary. Keep practicing, and soon, you’ll be using these words like a native speaker!
Unlock the Golden Secrets Every Senior Should Know, as a Filipino…
Photo from Pexels
Senior citizens are valued members in our community and society, and are entitled to various benefits and privileges designed to improve their quality of life. The government, through laws such as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act (Republic Act No. 9994), ensures that Filipino elderly can receive financial, medical, and social support to help them in their daily lives. Let’s explore the different benefits available to senior citizens and their importance in promoting their dignity and welfare during their golden years.
Age With Benefits: The Legal Way
Photo from Pexels
The Philippines recognizes the contributions of its elderly population through legislation that grants them their exclusive rights and discounts that they can avail themselves of. The Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (RA 9994) amended the original Senior Citizens Act (RA 7432), expanding benefits to cover more services, including healthcare, transportation, and leisure. The law aims to address the needs of every aging Filipino, especially those who are economically disadvantaged.

Power Perks of Being a Registered Senior Citizen
20% Discount on Essential Goods and Services
Applies to medicines, medical services, public transportation, and basic groceries
These benefits include restaurants and hotels, and a recreational center.
Exemption From Value-Added Tax (VAT)
Senior citizens are exempt from paying VAT on certain purchases, which reduces their overall expenses.
Monthly Social Pension
For individuals without a pension or stable income, a monthly stipend will be provided, depending on the local government’s support.
Priority in Government Services
Express lanes in banks, hospitals, and government offices have priority lines to minimize wait times.
Free Medical Care
Access to free healthcare in government hospitals, including vaccinations and check-ups.
Educational Assistance
Some universities and colleges offer free or discounted tuition for senior citizens pursuing further education.
Death Benefit Assistance
Financial aid for funeral expenses is provided in some cities and municipalities.
Gold And Glory

The privileges and benefits of senior citizens are designed to ensure that they live with dignity and financial security. Many seniors rely on these discounts and pensions to afford necessities in their daily lives, especially since they can no longer work. Moreover, these benefits can help each family reduce the burden of caring for older people, as they often require some assistance. By prioritizing senior welfare, the Philippines upholds its cultural value of paggalang sa nakatatanda (respect for older people) while promoting inclusive social policies.
Photo from Pexels
The Philippines continues to strengthen its support for senior citizens through laws and community programs. While existing benefits provide significant relief, advocates are pushing for expanded coverage. This includes higher pensions and improved access to healthcare. A Senior Citizen ID requires a valid ID, which can be obtained through the local Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) for eligible seniors to access these privileges. As the elderly population grows, these benefits remain essential in building a more compassionate and inclusive society.

Catmon is a town in northern Cebu, about 57 kilometers from Cebu City, where natural beauty, cultural legacy, and rustic charm compliment one another. Catmon, located between the Camotes Sea in the east and the rocky hills in the west, is a spot where mountains meet the sea.
How Catmon Came to Be
The Catmon town has origins that go back to 1835, during the Spanish colonial period. It was named after the katmon tree (Dillenia philippinensis), a native plant that was previously prevalent in the region. Catmon now has 20 barangays with a population of more than 33,000 inhabitants, according to the 2020 census. Catmin remains a fourth-class municipality, relying on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale tourism to sustain its economy.

What’s In Catmon?
Catmon’s most recognizable natural feature, Mount Kapayas, also known as Tore Peak, is the second highest point in Cebu and is located in Barangay Cambangkaya. It is part of a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) and is a popular hiking destination due to its panoramic vistas and ecological importance.
Photo from Jeffrey Monilla
The municipality also provides seaside resorts, mountain getaways, and even a look into their history. If you want a rural retreat, go to the Areca Palm Hut in Barangay Cabungaan and be surrounded by nature, while the coastal districts offer tranquil beaches and Instagram-worthy dawn vistas, among other things.
Every February 10, the town comes alive with the buzzing people preparing for the fiesta that honors St. William the Hermit. The fiesta features the Kabog Festival where it highlights the local delicacy made from millet seeds (kabog) and coconut milk that happens to be a tradition that is unique to the town.

The Philippine House of Representatives has approved the bill amending the country’s firearm law. The bill is relaxing some restrictions on gun ownership while maintaining regulations to prevent misuse. House Bill 10246 aims to update the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act (Republic Act No. 10591) by integrating licensing and enabling more Filipinos to own firearms for self-defense legally.
Locked And Legislated
The current gun law, RA 10591, was enacted in 2013, imposing strict requirements for owning firearms. This includes psychological tests, background checks, and limits on the types of guns civilians can possess. The newly passed House bill aims to simplify the licensing process, arguing that responsible citizens should have easier access to firearms for protection. This move follows calls for gun advocates and lawmakers who believe that stricter regulations have not effectively curbed crime.
Safety or Sorry: Balance Look Of The Bill
The passage of this gun law presents complex implications that warrant thoughtful examination from multiple perspectives. Both sides of this argument are that, on one hand, the legislation could empower citizens to enhance self-defense, especially in areas where law enforcement’s presence is limited. The economic ripple effect for firearm manufacturing might stimulate growth in other industries. However, concerns still exist in the community regarding public safety, as the increase in firearms accessibility can lead to higher rates of accidents and injuries, or it can escalate everyday conflict that can lead to deadly encounters. Law enforcement might have difficulty monitoring by expanding the list of legal gun owners while still combating illegal weapon trafficking. The changes of this remain uncertain and will likely depend on numerous factors that influence gun ownership in response to the new legal landscape. The law’s interplay between potential benefits and risks becomes apparent after years of implementation and observation.
Beneath The Barrel
Some supporters argue that the passage of this bill empowers people to defend themselves against concerns about rising crime rates. Nonetheless, critics warn that easing gun laws could lead to misuse of firearms, especially when they fall into the wrong hands, which can potentially increase violence in the country.
The approval of the gun law reflects the momentum of growing liberalization of firearm ownership in the Philippines. While the proponents see it as a step towards personal safety, the opposition urges caution to prevent unintended consequences. The success of this law doesn’t lie in its passage, but in whether it makes the Filipino more secure both in their right to self-defense and in their freedom from fear.

Solana (SOL) is regaining momentum after a volatile week triggered by geopolitical tensions. With a 7% recovery over the last 24 hours and increasing adoption among institutions, the crypto community is paying close attention.
Meanwhile, Solaxy, a new layer-2 project built on Solana, is closing its record-breaking presale. This convergence of bullish market data and growing utility signals a strong opportunity for investors.
Resilience After Volatility: Solana Bounces Back
On June 11, Solana surprised analysts by rising to $168 despite the broader market pullback. The Israel-Iran conflict had triggered uncertainty across global financial markets, causing most digital assets to retrace.
SOL was no exception in dropping its key support at $140. However, this level once again held firm, that has already shown strength last June 5. Since then, Solana has steadily climbed by 0.5% increase over seven days and a sharp 7% jump in just 24 hours.
This price action suggests that confidence is returning. With an RSI of 49, Solana remains in a neutral zone, offering a potential entry point for new investors. According to Coinglass, a net inflow of $17 million in SOL was recorded on June 15, 2025. Such capital movements often precede stronger price rallies, especially when supported by macro and on-chain fundamentals.
In the short term, to maintain its upward momentum, SOL needs to break through resistance levels at the $158 to $164 range. These levels have been especially volatile, as both resistance and support.
This decisive breakout past $162 will allow Solana to target $185, hence, a key milestone that could signal the return of the bullish trend that was seen at the beginning of the year.
Solaxy’s Explosive Presale Nears Finale
While Solana regains traction, Solaxy is closing in on the final hours of its presale. This project aims to enhance the Solana ecosystem by introducing a faster, cheaper, and more scalable environment for decentralized applications and memecoin trading.
Solaxy’s $SOLX token offers staking features that enable holders to earn passive income, combining functionality with financial incentives.
The market has responded positively. Solaxy has raised nearly $55 million, placing it among the most successful ICOs of 2025. Each $SOLX token is priced at $0.001766, and with only 5 days remaining in the presale, time is running out for early investors. Once the token lists on exchanges, its price is expected to rise, making now potentially the last opportunity to enter at a discounted rate.
The current momentum around Solana is not just retail-driven. Wall Street brokerage Cantor has begun covering three companies with treasury reserves held in SOL. These include DeFi Development (DFDV), Upexi (UPXI), and Sol Strategies (HODL).
An “overweight” rating was assigned to all three, forecasting target prices at $45, $16, and $54 CAD, respectively. Thus, these endorsements reflect growing institutional confidence in Solana’s role in future financial infrastructure.
Why Solana is Preferred Over Ethereum
Cantor’s analysis positions Solana as a better treasury asset than Ethereum, citing faster transaction speeds, lower fees, and a growing developer base. Despite Ethereum’s larger market cap at roughly 2.5 times that of Solana, which the brokerage argues that Solana’s fundamentals provide a stronger long-term value proposition.
One of the key metrics that supports this view is the developer growth. Solana has recently surpassed Ethereum in attracting new developers, which signals a more vibrant and innovative ecosystem. This growth translates into more dApps, tools, and user-facing products that expand the blockchain’s real-world utility.
Valuation Premium for Solana Treasury Firms
Cantor’s report also suggests that companies holding SOL in their treasuries should be valued at a premium relative to their net asset value. This is due to the belief that Solana is not just a financial asset but a strategic technology stack for on-chain financial systems. In other words, Solana’s utility gives it value beyond its market price.
For investors, this is a critical insight. Solana’s adoption as a treasury asset implies an increased demand, a reduced circulating supply, and more stable price floors. Furthermore, companies leveraging Solana for the treasury purposes are more likely to receive higher market valuations, that benefits shareholders and drives further interest.
These developments come during the time when decentralized finance is gaining traction globally. When more companies and institutions move towards the on-chain solutions, the need for blockchain that are scalable, efficient, and low-cost become essential.
Thus, Solana fits these requirements, making it the prime candidate serving the core infrastructure for future finance.
On the other hand, the retail investors that have broader institutional interest in Solana validates its long-term potential. Combining the near-term price recovery and projects like Solaxy launching within its ecosystem, a current environment offering multiple entry points for participation.
Final Hours: Act Now or Miss Out on $SOLX
The Solaxy presale, in particular, offers an alternative way to gain exposure to Solana’s growth. By investing in $SOLX tokens, users can benefit from the expansion of Solana-based services while also earning staking rewards. The project’s dual appeal is functional and financial has helped it attract millions in funding in a short period.
However, this window is closing quickly. In just about two hours left before the presale ends, potential investors should act quickly in securing the $SOLX at its current price. After this phase, token availability will shift to the open market, where pricing is often subject to volatility and higher demand.
The meeting of these events makes a bullish scenario for Solana. From price rebound and solid technical support to institutional investment and ecosystem growth, SOL is indicating it’s ready to go into a new growth cycle.
Solana’s Multi-Dimensional Growth
Solana’s resurgence is supported by both short-term momentum and long-term fundamentals. The project is no longer just an Ethereum competitor but rather, is carving out its own identity as a cornerstone of decentralized finance.
The institutional confidence grows and innovative projects emerge within its ecosystem, where Solana is positioning itself at the forefront of the next wave of blockchain adoption.
Investors looking to diversify or strengthen their crypto portfolios must closely consider the current developments. The combination of Solana’s technical strengths, favorable market structure, and ecosystem growth presents a compelling case for entry before the next rally leaves latecomers behind.
