Is Osmeña Peak in Badian or Dalaguete?

Para nimo, asa man jud ang Osmena peak?

Osmeña Peak, known to avid hikers as it is short and beginner friendly, taking up to 15-30 minutes from the jump off point. It stands tall at 1,013 meters high above sea level, making it the highest point in Cebu. Mantalongon, Dalaguete, is known as a cool mountainous town in southern Cebu which is often dubbed as the “Little Baguio of Cebu” for its vegetable farms and mistry climate.

Location Wise

The peak is located in Barangay Patong, Badian  in the southern part of Cebu Island, Philippines. This jagged, hill studded peak is part of the Mantalongon mountain range but is divided by its borders, often compared to Bohol’s Chocolate Hills for its clustered, conical formations. At the very top, the view shows the Tañon Strait, and on clear weathers, you can even spot Negros and Bohol in the distance.

The Confusion

Osmeña Peak is said to be located in Mantalongon, Dalaguete, yet it’s actually part of Badian. Why the mix-up? It’s largely because many visitors access the peak in Mantalongon, Dalaguete. To simplify, because of the easier access in Dalaguete and steep mountain terrain in Badian, many believe that the peak is part of the municipality of Dalaguete. And is also advertised in many tour operators who also market the peak to be part of  the municipality of Mantalongon.

The Explanation

Osmeña Peak is part of Barangay Patong, which is located in Badian but the range itself extends to the Dalaguete mountain range. If you look at the maps, the peak lies inside the boundaries of Badian and not in Dalaguete. According to locals, the dispute between the two municipalities have sparked a discussion on where the peak belongs to.  This distinction is important, especially for matters of governance, tourism revenue, and local stewardship.

So, we  hope this answers or lessens  the confusion on whether Osmeña Peak is in Badian or Dalaguete. And if you’re still confused, well, start trekking to the peak and see for yourself!

From Singers To Slayers: K-Pop Demon Hunters and the June 2025 Movie Craze

K-pop idols take center stage and swing swords in a bold new movie that turns pop stars into demon-slaying heroes.

The new movie, released on Netflix, K-pop Demon Hunters, is an animated action-fantasy film produced by Sony Animation in collaboration with Lion Forge Entertainment. Released last June 21, 2025, this movie is directed by Chris Appelhans,  targeting fans of K-pop, animation, and fantasy adventure. The film also combines original songs with musical performances, interspersed with demon slaying, creating a unique cinematic experience. The movie is distributed exclusively by Netflix as it has high-energy K-pop tracks that play a central role in the story.

Music Meets Action

The film is set in a futuristic Seoul, where a world-famous K-pop girl group secretly fights against demonic forces threatening humanity. By day, they are glamorous idols adored by millions, but at night they transform into skilled warriors wielding both musical magic and combat skills. The story follows Mira, the group’s fierce leader, as she struggles to balance her life as a pop star with her duty as a demon hunter. When an ancient evil awakens, the team must unite their talents to prevent an apocalyptic invasion.

Blended by a vibrant animation, dynamic fight sequences, and catchy K-pop anthems, K-Pop Demon Hunters offers a fresh twist on the girl-group trope by infusing it with supernatural stakes. This movie not only shows action, but also comedy and romance that can be relatable, not in a demonic way.

Worldwide K-Wave

Initially, this movie was developed by Sony Pictures Animation, and the project was later acquired by Netflix, which ensured a wide international release. The streaming platform’s global reach allowed the film to premiere in over 190 countries simultaneously, with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages. Marketing campaigns emphasized its hybrid appeal, targeting both K-pop enthusiasts and animation fans through trailers that showcased its high-octane action and musical performances. The film’s availability on Netflix made it easily accessible, contributing to its rapid spread across social media, where fans praised its creativity and visual style.

Hype Or Takedown

Reception for K-Pop Demon Hunters has been mixed but generally positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a moderate score of 96% on tomatoes and 90% on popcornmeter, with critics praising its bold concept and stunning animation but noting its somewhat predictable storyline. IMDb viewers rated it favorably, highlighting its fast-paced action and engaging musical numbers as standout elements. While some reviewers felt the plot followed familiar beats, most agreed that the film’s energy, humor, and stylish execution made it an entertaining watch. The voice acting and original soundtrack also received acclaim, with many appreciating how the music seamlessly integrated into the narrative.

Soda Pop Impact

The film represents a growing trend of K-pop’s expanding influence beyond music into the global entertainment industry. By merging idol culture with fantasy-action, K-Pop Demon Hunters opens doors for more cross-genre animated projects. Its success could inspire similar collaborations between music industries and animation studios, particularly in leveraging K-pop’s massive fan base. Additionally, the movie’s focus on a strong, diverse female team adds to the increasing demand for women-led action stories in animation. Whether it becomes a cult favorite or sparks a franchise, its bold fusion of music and mythology leaves a notable mark on both animation and K-pop media.

June 2025 Movie Spotlight

Elio (June 20, 2025)

In this original Pixar sci-fi adventure, a young boy named Elio is accidentally whisked across the galaxy and deemed Earth’s ambassador by an alien council. Despite being Pixar’s weakest box-office debut, with an opening of $21 million in the U.S., its lowest ever, it shines critically and with audiences, holding an 84% critic score and a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned a “Certified Fresh” rating and a “Hot” PopcornMeter badge, marking its strong reception among viewers.

How to Train Your Dragon (June 13, 2025)

The long-awaited live-action remake retells the story of Hiccup aboard the rugged isle of Berk as he befriends Toothless and transforms Viking-dragon relations. Released June 13, it boasts an 83% critic score and a remarkable 98% audience approval on Rotten Tomatoes. While critics are primarily positive, describing it as “astonishing” and “heartfelt,” some die-hard fans found it a bit uneven.

Ballerina (June 6, 2025)

A spinoff of the John Wick universe, Ballerina follows assassin Eve as she seeks revenge in a ballet-themed action saga set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3. Released June 6, it holds a 77% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive “Hot” PopcornMeter rating. Audience reaction is strong at 93% verified, and reviews praise its thrilling, “gorgeous,” and creative action sequences, while noting a thin storyline.

K-Pop Demon Hunters is a visually dazzling, high-energy film that successfully blends K-pop spectacle with supernatural adventure. While its story may not break new ground, its creativity, vibrant animation, and catchy music make it a fun and memorable experience. While facing stiff competition from major releases like Pixar’s Elio, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake, and the John Wick spin-off Ballerina, this animated musical-action hybrid carves out its own space with its bold fusion of genres. As K-pop continues to shape global pop culture, this film stands as an exciting experiment in merging music, animation, and action for a new generation of fans. As June 2025 proves to be a remarkable month for film, from Elio’s critical success despite box office challenges to Ballerina’s action-packed thrills, K-Pop Demon Hunters stands out for its originality and cultural relevance. Its success demonstrates the growing global influence of K-pop, extending beyond music, and opens up exciting possibilities for future cross-genre animated projects.

iOS CarPlay Hit the Road for Video Streaming While Driving

Steering meets streaming in the most terrific way. CarPlay’s got the binge, not just the maps.

In the latest update to the CarPlay upgrade, Apple is transforming in-car entertainment. They announced at WWDC 2025 that drivers and passengers will be able to stream their favorite content and videos into their vehicle using AirPlay. This update turns compatible cars into rolling on-the-go entertainment centers, perfect for road trips, ride sharing, waiting for someone to pick up, or just making the time fly.

Behind The Wheel

Introduced in 2014, the device primarily focuses on navigation, music playback, and its communication features. The lack of video support has been a notable gap in today’s media-heavy world, while these functions continue to evolve and revolutionize. Apple’s cautious approach to video in cars stemmed from legitimate safety concerns about driver distraction. However, with the rise of advanced driver assistance systems and the impending arrival of fully autonomous vehicles, the company recognized the shifting landscape. The groundwork was laid with previous iOS updates that expanded AirPlay capabilities, and with the complete CarPlay redesign announced in 2022 that took over entire dashboards. Now, with iOS 19, Apple is finally ready to bring its signature video experience to the automotive environment, completing its vision for a truly comprehensive in-car ecosystem.

Tap To Stream

The new feature will work with popular streaming service platforms, such as Apple TV, Netflix, and Disney+, although these functions may vary across different apps.  Some early reports say that the system will automatically detect whether the car is in motion or parked, with some vehicles potentially offering a passenger override option. The interface design maintains Apple’s sleek and straightforward aesthetic, featuring easy-to-use playback controls and options that can be optimized for in-car use.

Binge On The Road

This upgrade offers several exciting benefits for users. Families can keep kids entertained on long drives, while ride-share drivers might use it to enhance the passenger experience. The wireless functionality means no messy cables, and Apple’s optimization ensures minimal lag. For electric vehicle owners charging their cars, it transforms waiting time into an enjoyable experience. The feature also hints at future possibilities, such as gaming or video conferencing, in autonomous vehicles.

Screen Grabs from Apple Developer

Set to launch with iOS 19 later this year, video AirPlay in CarPlay represents Apple’s continued commitment to automotive innovation. While initially available in select 2025 and newer vehicle models, the feature will likely expand as more manufacturers adopt the latest CarPlay standards. This update not only enhances Apple’s ecosystem but also propels the entire automotive industry toward more connected and entertaining driving experiences.

Istorbot!

The Filipino language is rich with unique words that can be challenging to pronounce, especially for non-native speakers. While some words are literally a tongue twister, others are lengthy and complex. However, mastering these words can deepen your appreciation of the language and improve your fluency. Filipino is the national language of the Philippines. As it is a blend of indigenous language and foreign influence, some words are repetitive, while others are extended versions of their root words to express intensity or degree.

Hardest Filipino Words to Pronounce

Mamasa-masa

  • Meaning: “A bit moist”
  • Sentence: “Ang kanin ay mamasa-masa pa, kaya hindi pa ito pwede kainin.”
  • (The rice is still a bit moist, so it shouldn’t be eaten yet.)

Pinakipakinabangan

  • Meaning: “Most utilized” or “most made useful”
  • Sentence: “Yung lumang libro ay pinakipakinabangan ng mga estudyante noong panahon ng pandemya.”
  • (The old books were the most utilized by students during the pandemic.)

Pinakanakapagpapabagabag-damdamin

  • Meaning: “Most disturbing” (often referring to emotions)
  • Sentence: “Ang balita tungkol sa krimen ay pinakanakapagpapabagabag-damdamin sa lahat ng nakarinig.”
  • (The news about the crime was the most disturbing to all who heard it.)

Kagila-gilalas

  • Meaning: “Astounding” or “amazing”
  • Sentence: “Si juan ay kagila-gilalas kumanta.”
  • (Juan is astounding at singing.)

Bababa ba?

  • Meaning: “going down?”
  • Sentence: “Bababa ba tayo sa susunod na Bus stop?”
  • (Are we getting off at the bus stop?)

Dumadagundong

  • Meaning: “Rumbling” (like thunder or loud noise)
  • Sentence: “Dumadagundong ang kulog kaya natakot ang bata.”
  • (The thunder was rumbling, so the child got scared.)

Learning these challenging words enhances your understanding of Filipino grammar, word formation, and cultural expressions. Many of these terms convey deep emotions or specific states, making them valuable in both casual and formal conversations.

Filipinos may have some of the most difficult words to pronounce, but practicing them helps in mastering the language. Whether it’s the repetitive “mamasa-masa” or the lengthy “pinakanakapagpapabagabag-damdamin,” each word adds depth to your vocabulary. Keep practicing, and soon, you’ll be using these words like a native speaker!

Senior citizens are valued members in our community and society, and are entitled to various benefits and privileges designed to improve their quality of life. The government, through laws such as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act (Republic Act No. 9994), ensures that Filipino elderly can receive financial, medical, and social support to help them in their daily lives. Let’s explore the different benefits available to senior citizens and their importance in promoting their dignity and welfare during their golden years.

Age With Benefits: The Legal Way

The Philippines recognizes the contributions of its elderly population through legislation that grants them their exclusive rights and discounts that they can avail themselves of. The Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (RA 9994) amended the original Senior Citizens Act (RA 7432), expanding benefits to cover more services, including healthcare, transportation, and leisure. The law aims to address the needs of every aging Filipino, especially those who are economically disadvantaged.

Gold And Glory

The privileges and benefits of senior citizens are designed to ensure that they live with dignity and financial security. Many seniors rely on these discounts and pensions to afford necessities in their daily lives, especially since they can no longer work. Moreover, these benefits can help each family reduce the burden of caring for older people, as they often require some assistance. By prioritizing senior welfare, the Philippines upholds its cultural value of paggalang sa nakatatanda (respect for older people) while promoting inclusive social policies.

The Philippines continues to strengthen its support for senior citizens through laws and community programs. While existing benefits provide significant relief, advocates are pushing for expanded coverage. This includes higher pensions and improved access to healthcare. A Senior Citizen ID requires a valid ID, which can be obtained through the local Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) for eligible seniors to access these privileges. As the elderly population grows, these benefits remain essential in building a more compassionate and inclusive society.
