Cebu Province now allows visiting of churches under GCQ

Good news to all the devotees in the whole province of Cebu. Provided the observance of all public health protocols, churches in the province of Cebu will be opened to visit the Blessed Sacrament and pray.

To ensure safety, these are to be followed:

  • Only three persons per pew shall be allowed at a time
  • Strict social distancing must be observed
  • Wearing of a face mask is a must
  • Sanitizers and/or Disinfectants must be available at all times
  • Touching of the religious icons and the Holy Water is strictly prohibited while a routinary disinfection of the Church premises will be done.

However, Holy Mass celebrations will remain online until June 1, 2020, or until further notice.

On Tuesday, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia met with Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Chancellor for the Archdiocese of Cebu Msgr. Renato Beltran, Jr. to discuss the Church’s position on Cebu Province’s shift to general community quarantine (GCQ).

“Ganina nag meeting ta with Chancellor sa Archdiocese of Cebu si Msg. Renato Beltran, Jr., and we have agreed nga ablihan ang simbahan dili para misa kay ang misa online lang gihapon kanang live streaming lang gihapon. Mahimo nga mubisita sa simbahan aron mangadye,”

According to Beltran, they will be holding public Masses on June 1 given that they will be following the CBCP guidelines, allowing the Church to prepare for the new normal.

While Department of Health (DOH) 7 Director Dr. Jaime Bernadas said that a strict social distancing must be followed, Beltran assures that they will be abiding by the public health protocols on COVID-19.

Public masses will only be done on June 1, from Wednesdays to Sundays. Beltran also assured us that the pews will be disinfected every after the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
