On Saturday afternoon, Cebu City Edgar Labella has ended the public’s confusion on Cebu City’s new classification as he has formally announced that Cebu City will be placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting on June 1, 2020.
This means, the whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu Province — is now all under GCQ.
It was previously reported the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) initially placed Cebu City on modified ECQ; however, Cebu City Mayor Labella appealed to this decision and insisted that Cebu City has low mortality rate, making it ready for GCQ. This request was then granted by the IATF.
“Under GCQ, there will be more businesses that will reopen and public transport will resume operations but with reduced operating capacity. With Cebu City returning to GCQ, we need to remain vigilant against COVID19. Look out after each other and keep safe, Cebuanos!”– Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella
