Do you remember the iconic Shiba Inu dog meme that went viral for more than a decade?
Kabosu, or also known as the Doge Meme passed away just today.
She has been suffering in an ill-health battle from leukemia and liver disease. Atsuko Sato, her owner, announced her death on her instagram account.
Photo from @kabosumama’s Official Instagram Account
“To all of you who loved Kabosu, on the morning of the 24 May, Kabosu crossed the rainbow bridge. Thank you all so much for your support over the years. She went very peacefully without suffering, as if falling asleep while feeling the warmth of my hands petting her. Thank you all so much for loving Kabosu all these years.” Atsuko posted. “I am certain Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world. That makes me the happiest owner in the world. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to everyone who has sent so much love to us.”

The death of Kabosu has saddened many people’s hearts as she played a humorous role and was iconic for her funny and cute expressions.

Looking Back To Fun Memories
Kabosu’s fame started way back in 2010 when a photo of her with crossed paws and a slight smirk spread on Reddit and Tumblr. It made millions of people laugh and happy. The doge meme named under her became much more popular in 2013 when Coloured Comic Sans text overlays the broken English phrases like “Wow. So scare” and “What r u doing?” surrounding Kabosu’s pictures.
Photo from @kabosumama’s Official Instagram Account
A lot of people surely loved her. She made all of us happy and laughed. We all used her memes to represent our reaction and emotions with a touch of humor.
18 years is a very old age for a dog. She surely lived a long life, and enjoyed every bit of it as she belonged to a very loving owner. The world loved her very much too.
She might not be in this world anymore, but her legacy as the Doge Meme will forever exist.
Probably the only “fun run” where it’s not you who’s running!
Photo from Toby Kulot
Have you ever heard of the “sardine run“? Well, it’s like a massive underwater parade as billions of sardines swim along the coastline. Because of this, it’s a feast for the sharks, dolphins, seabirds, and whales as they join in for a moving buffet!
Photo from Canva
Why do Sardines Run?
Technically, sardines don’t run; they swim! But, because of the act in which they zoom or sprint fast from one area to the next, their movement has been called “running.” Why do they run? Here are the reasons:
Reproduction and Spawning
During their spawning period, pregnant sardines instinctively migrate to warmer waters to lay their eggs, as this increases the chances of their offspring’s survival. This natural behavior is a result of the sardines seeking out optimal conditions for the development of their eggs.
Temperature and Ocean Currents
Sardines are like ocean detectives, following the trail of cold ocean currents that bring up nutrient-rich waters to the surface. It’s like their own underwater buffet of plankton!
Predator Avoidance
There is strength in numbers, a principle vividly demonstrated by schools of sardines when they swim together. By doing this, they confuse some of their predators into thinking they are bigger than what they actually are.

Where to Watch the Sardine Run?
Photo from @dmluegooo
In Cebu, you can witness the beautiful and breathtaking sardine run at the seas of Moalboal! The Panagsama Beach is one of the most known areas for the phenomenon where during the rainy seasons of November to May, you’ll get to see school sardines form unbelievable shapes underwater.

131 representatives voted “Yes” to the Divorce Act to be passed!
Photo from House of Representatives Website
Yesterday, May 22, 2024, the House of Representatives held the final reading on the bill proceeding the absolute divorce in the Philippines. When the voting came, 109 casted negative votes with 20 abstentions; however, 131 voted affirmatively which prompted the passing of the House Bill 9394.
The Absolute Divorce Act
Photo screen grab Photo from House of Representatives YouTube Channel
Albay Representative Edgar Lagman, the author of the divorce bill, believes that the bill’s successful final reading is a testament to the changing perspectives of Filipino society regarding relationships and marriages. “As the only country in the world besides the Vatican where divorce is still illegal, this is a clear and resounding victory and signals the imminent liberation for Filipino wives who are entombed in toxic, abusive, and long-dead marriages,” Lagman stated.
However, it is important to understand that the passage of the Divorce Bill does not offer a quick escape for unhappy marriages. Instead, it establishes a structured process that couples must undergo. There are specific, reasonable grounds for divorce, and a petition must be submitted to the court. This ensures that the law is not misused and that both parties are protected from potential abuse.
What Are the Grounds for Divorce?
Photo from Canva
Here are some of the grounds stated in the Absolute Divorce Act that we can expect once it’s implemented:
Psychological incapacity
Irreconcilable differences
Domestic or marital abuse
When a partner undergoes ender change or transition
Separation of at least five (5) years
Additional grounds for divorce include those stipulations under the Legal Separation act of the Family Code of the Philippines which can include the following:
Physical violence
Prostitution
Drug addiction, habitual alcoholism, or chronic gambling
Homosexuality of the respondent
Bigamy
Marital infidelity
Abandonment of more than a year
Thoughts On The Bill
Photo from Canva
Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Richard Gomez, Bro. Eddie Villanueca, and Marcelino Libanan were some of the respondents who voted against the passing of the bill. “May God have mercy on our nation!”said Villanueva when the verdict came out, “We have explained and warned our colleagues of the ill effects of the measure; the accountability is now between them and God.”
On the other hand, Gabriela Representative Arlene Brosas cheered as they saw the necessity of the bill for the welfare of women and children trapped in problematic marriages. “This victory is nearly two decades in the making, following our initial introduction of a bill to legalize divorce back in 2005. The necessity for this legislation has only grown more urgent over the years. It is easy to romanticize the Filipino family as perfect and conflict-free. But the reality is that political, economic and social factors often strain marriages, leading to inequalities and violence,” she stated.
Brosas added on the importance of the bill, “Gabriela Women’s Party looks forward to a future where all Filipinos have the legal means to escape harmful marriages and rebuild their lives. Let us give abused women and their children another chance to live in a loving and supportive family environment.”
Ultimately, the effectiveness of the Divorce Bill will depend on its implementation and the stipulations put in place to prevent abuse. As the bill moves forward, ongoing dialogue and careful consideration of both sides of the argument will be important in shaping a law that best serves the interests of Filipino society.

“…to always believe in myself, and uphold the vows that I have.” – Chelsea Manalo, Miss Universe PH 2024

The Philippines is filled with excitement as we proudly present our candidate for the Miss Universe competition in Mexico this year—Chelsea Manalo!
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
True to her last name, which means “winner,” Chelsea won the crown at the prestigious Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant last night. Representing Bulacan, known as the Cradle of the Nation’s Noble Heroes, Chelsea embodies both beauty and resilience. But beyond the glittering crown, who is Chelsea?
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
A Queen In The Making
While many dream of becoming Miss Universe, Chelsea Manalo turned that dream into reality through dedication and hard work. She began her journey at the early age of 15, competing in various pageants since high school to prepare for the grandest competition in the Philippines. Her inspiration? None other than the iconic supermodel, Naomi Campbell.
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
Before her triumphant win at Miss Universe Philippines, Chelsea Manalo made waves in the Miss World Philippines 2017 pageant. Dubbed the “Dark Horse” for her stunning and unique runway strut, Chelsea caught the attention of the audience and judges alike. Although she only advanced to the Top 15, this experience did not bring her spirit down. Instead, it fueled her determination as the spotlights turned to her when many saw her as a potential Miss Universe Philippines crown-holder. And she did just that, proving her resilience and dedication.

Empowering Beauty
During the Q&A portion of the Miss Universe pageant, Chelsea was asked how she could empower others with her beauty and confidence. Her response was heartfelt and honest, reflecting her personal journey and challenges. “As a woman of color, I have always faced challenges in my life. I was told that beauty has standards. But for me, I have listened to always believe in my mother, to always believe in myself, and uphold the vows that I have. Because of these, I am already influencing a lot of women who are facing me right now. As a transformational woman, I have here 52 other delegates with me who have helped me to become the woman I am,” Chelsea answered.
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
This powerful statement highlighted the prejudices Filipinos often face regarding skin color and showcased Chelsea’s journey of self-acceptance and empowerment as she became the first Black Filipino American to win the Miss Universe Philippines pageant in history.
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
Despite her confidence and the qualities that make her a natural pageant queen, Chelsea faced criticism and challenges due to her morena skin. Her perseverance and determination to redefine beauty standards have made her an inspiring figure, not just in the world of pageantry but for women everywhere.
A Cause to Fight For
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
Not only is Chelsea Manalo a woman of grace, beauty, and intelligence, but she is also a passionate advocate and fighter for the indigenous Dumagat people of Bulacan. She aims to create opportunities for education within the indigenous community as she works with Kids for Kids PH to inspire and educate the youth, empowering them to have better perspectives and to change the world for a greater future.
Photo from Chelsea Manalo’s Official Instagram Page
Chelsea Manalo’s journey from a young girl with a dream to the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 titleholder is a testament to her strength, dedication, and the power of believing in oneself. As she heads to Mexico to compete on the global stage, she carries with her the hopes and pride of our entire nation.
There are a lot of misconceptions about the Goth community. Some believe that they are psychopaths, suicidal, evil people, and that they praise satan. Is that really true?
Ironically, goths are one of the nicest people that you’ll know! Despite their dark charisma and edgy looks, they are sweet and kind! Literally hard on the outside, but soft on the inside. But wait, where and how did the goth community start? What even is goth?
Photo from Xyvia
The Goth Movement
The goth movement began in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the UK, particularly in London and Leeds. It was a time of great social change, with the punk rock movement having recently emerged and the rise of post-punk and new wave music. From these musical roots, the goth movement grew, drawing inspiration from classical music, literature, and art.

Association of Goth Fashion and Music
The goth aesthetic is actually a visual representation of the music that goths listen to. Although you do not have to embody being goth and just listen to goth music which includes the following genres:
Gothic rock
Death rock
Cold wave
Dark wave
Ethereal wave
Alternative Rock
EBM (Electro Body Music)
Alternative Metal
However, you can still be goth while enjoying other genres of music!
The goth aesthetic is characterized by its dark and dramatic style. This includes clothing made of black velvet, lace, and leather, as well as elaborate hairstyles and makeup. The use of heavy eyeliner, black lipstick, and nail polish is a common feature of the goth look. The style is often described as “dark romantic,” with a focus on elegance and sophistication. But these descriptions are only the common features to be found on goths. There are different types of goths!

Goth Subcultures
There are a lot of subcultures under this aesthetic. It is not just traditional goth, the most common and known kind. There are mall goths, lolita goths, witch goths, cyber goths, romantic goths, white goths, fairy goths, and many others.

Misconceptions About Goths
Despite its popularity and widespread influence, the goth community is often misunderstood by outsiders. Many people assume that all goths are depressed or suicidal, or that they are all affiliated with Satanism or other occult practices. However, these stereotypes are largely inaccurate. In reality, the goth community is a diverse group of individuals who share a love of music, art, and aesthetics. While some may identify as melancholic or introverted, many others are outgoing and confident.
Photo from Zy Yuri
The goth community is a unique and fascinating subculture that has been thriving for decades. Despite its dark aesthetic and love of all things macabre, it is a culture that values creativity, individuality, and self-expression. Whether you’re a fan of music, art, literature, or film noir, there’s something in the goth community for everyone. So if you’re feeling drawn to the dark side, don’t be afraid to explore – you might just find yourself at home among the shadows.

Even celebrities tried and failed… how about us, commoners then, huh?

News about Zayn Malik’s failed attempt in using a dating app became a global phenomenon, especially since there are tons of women worldwide who would definitely date Zayn! But, according to him in an interview with Nylon, he constantly gets accused of catfishing whenever he joins a dating app, “Everyone accused me of catfishing. They’re like, ‘What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?’”
Photo from Time
Aside from Zayn, there are still many other celebrities who had tried and failed in the area of new tech dating, and here are some of them:
Ivana Alawi
Actress and influencer, Ivana Alawi, shared on one of her vlog interviews that she has used a dating app before, “Broken ako noon. Gusto ko ng ka-chat. Pero hindi ako nakipagkita. Chat chat lang. Pero matagal ko nang dinelete.” [Translation: “I was heartbroken at that time. I wanted someone to chat with, but I didn’t push through to meet up with anyone in person; just chatting. However, I already deleted the app a long time ago.”]
Zac Efron
Being a Disney channel heartthrob and versatile actor is not a guarantee to land a date from an app. Zac shared to Vogue that he never received a swipe right when he joined Tinder, “Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me! They thought it was fake…that never happened.”
Roxanne Barcelo
During her interview with PEP.PH, Roxanne admitted that she felt her singleness dragging along so she decided to try two dating apps, “I appreciate this moment kasi may Bumble, may Tinder. There are so many apps where hindi na tayo kailangan tumambay sa mga kung saan-saang kanto para makatagpo ng love. Or hindi na kailangang magsimbang-gabi tayo every night, di ba? Aminin mo yun, girl!” [Translation: “I appreciate this moment because we have Bumble and Tinder already. There are so many apps where we don’t have to go somewhere or be out there physically just to find love. Or we no longer have to attend the simbang gabi every night, right? Admit it girl!”
Olivia Rodrigo
Known for her hit songs “Driver’s License,” “Deja Vu,” and “Traitor,” Olivia Rodrigo also tried using a dating app. But, unlike Zayn and Zac, she used an exclusive, celebrity-only app known as Raya. Still, according to Olivia during a GQ interview, “I had Raya for a second, and it was so vomit. Like, I could not.”
Katy Perry
The “Fireworks” and “Dark Horse” singer admitted to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club that she got into Tinder after her hiatus with John Mayer, “I’m really deep on Tinder so I don’t have a whole lot of time.” Since that’s a long time ago, it begs the question if Katy is still on the app or not; we’ll never know for sure til you see her profile on it.
Sam Smith
Banned from not one, but two dating apps? Well, that’s on Sam Smith for not going through the complete verification process of both Tinder and Hinge. Sam Smith disclosed the hilarious story during an interview with ET Canada, “I never used Grindr. I did Tinder once, I think I got chucked off of Tinder. I got chucked off of Hinge because they thought that I wasn’t me. Well, I didn’t verify my profile, so I should have done that.”
Camila Cabello
Havana oh na na as Camila signed in and then uninstalled Tinder within just 24 hours! The singer-songwriter admitted during her interview at The Drew Barrymore Show, “I was on a dating app for like 24 hours, then I left. The first guy that DMed me was, like, an aspiring singer-songwriter from Nashville. I was just like, ‘I feel weird because somebody could be using me.’ Does that make sense?”

As the country approaches the onset of the wet season, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a warning to expect more rainfall in the afternoons and evenings. The weather bureau is advising residents to prepare for the transition to the rainy season, which is characterized by increased precipitation in the latter parts of the day.
According to recent reports from state weather forecasters, the country is showing signs of transition from the dry season to the wet season, characterized by increased frequency of rainfalls.
While the southwest monsoon has not yet taken hold, PAGASA suggests that the rainy season may officially begin between late May and early June.
Photo from Canva
PAGASA has also cautioned that the country may be susceptible to flash floods and landslides due to the expected moderate to heavy rainfall. Furthermore, the state weather agency has announced that the El Niño phenomenon is subsiding, but the country is currently under a La Niña watch.

According to PAGASA, there is still a 60% chance that La Niña will develop between June and August. Thus, they suggest that we shall get prepared for this possible occurrence.
