LOOK: NASA Captured a Supernova from 7,000 Light Years Away

Like a red ribbon lost in time and space…

A thousand years ago, a huge exploding star lit up the sky like a second sun. It was named the SN 1006 because it was first observed in 1006 A.D, and it radiated with brightness so intensely that it even outshone the daylight.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said in a statement, “This twisted filament corresponds with where the blast is sweeping through surrounding gas. The diameter of this supernova is nearly 60 light-years, and is still expanding at a speed of about 6 million miles per hour (about 9.6 million kilometers per hour).”

The red ribbon is the aftermath of the exploding star crashing into its surrounding gas. Even though a long time has passed, SN 1006’s impact keeps growing and its shockwave is zooming through space at a crazy speed.

Thanks to the Hubble Space Telescope, we get to see the ever-changing beauty of the universe. The remains of SN 1006 are a mystery that makes us want to know more secrets of what goes beyond our stars and Earth.

New Hunger Games Book & Movie Alert! And It Will Focus On Haymitch

“girls don’t want boys. girls want suzanne collins to release a haymitch abernathy origin trilogy,” tweeted Rachel Zegler in 2021; and we agree!

Suzanne Collins, international bestselling author, announced that the origin story of Haymitch will be published next year, 2025 while its book adaptation is already set to be released on November 20, 2026! Talk about legendary; just like Haymitch.

The “Sunrise on the Reaping” will be a book focusing on Katniss Everdeen’s mentor and legendary liquor lover, Haymitch Abernathy. Publisher Scholastic announced that the planned release for the newest Hunger Games Book will be on March 18, 2025. And the best part is, it’s already available for pre-order!

The Second Quarter Quell

Hunger Games fans will be traveling back in time, specifically 24 years before Catching Fire. It will show the Second Quarter Quell, one of the bloodiest events in Hunger Games history wherein Haymitch Abernathy, a 16-year old district 12 tribute, rose as the victor.

While previous books provided glimpses about what transpired during the Second Quarter Quell, one thing is for sure in this new story: we will finally get a sneak peak on Haymitch’s life before he became the strategic mentor of Katniss and Peeta.

Also, we’ll get to see a part of his family life since it was mentioned that he had a younger brother along with his mother, and a girlfriend who were ordered to be killed by President Snow because of his tactics involving the arena’s force field.

After the success of “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” it’s no wonder that another book and movie adaptation will be released especially since Lionsgate had been consistent in their support to Suzanne Collins’ masterpieces.

“With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,’” Collins stated in an interview. “The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”

There’s one place in Bantayan that locals and tourists go to for the best sunset views!

A 4th class municipality in Cebu with a population of about 40,000. Madridejos, or the Municipality of Madridejos, makes up Bantayan Island facing the Visayan Sea.

From “Lawis” to “Madridejos”

Originally, the municipality was known as “Lawis,” which meant “promontory,” or a raised land overseeing a low body of water. Soon enough, the place was renamed “Madridejos” in honor of the former archbishop of Cebu, Benito Romero de Madridejos. However, amidst the name change, most locals still refer to the original name today due to them being used to it.

By Commute: Start your adventure at the Cebu North Bus Terminal and board a bus bound for Hagnaya Port, San Remigio. #Kanlaon: What Happens If You Breathe In Sulfur Dioxide

Sugboanons, there’s no need to worry nor panic – for real!

The eruption of Mount Kanlaon caused havoc, not only in Negros Occidental but also in the rest of the Visayan region along with other places nearby places in Southern Luzon, Mindanao, and Palawan. Why? Well, according to the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service, they spotted that clouds carrying sulfur dioxide (SO₂) had been blown towards the aforementioned areas in the Philippines.

However, following a photo shared by a netizen online showing what seemed to be a hazy afternoon in the Queen City of the South, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) clarified that there’s no need to panic because the sulfur dioxide (SO₂) levels in Cebu’s air is still within breathable and safe ranges.

But, of course, it’s never too early to get to know what would happen in the event that those levels go beyond normal. So, here are some expected aftermath for breathing in the chemical, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov):

Can cause eye and skin irritation
Can result in nose and throat irritation causing nasal mucus, choking, and cough
Severe exposure can result in bronchospasm, pulmonary edema, pneumonitis, and acute airway obstruction.
Low exposures can even aggravate asthma and emphysema.

Symptoms of Sulfur Dioxide Poisoning

When one inhales sulfur dioxide, a few symptoms will show up once it hits beyond the normal level such as sore throat, sneezing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and a feeling of suffocation. However, as of this writing, PAGASA hasn’t released any statement regarding the need for wearing facemasks and doing precautionary measures in terms of the sulfur dioxide levels in Cebu.
