A peak where it’s more than an eye full and has a unique, beautiful scenery of its own, Osmeña Peak is Cebu’s highest peak, reaching 1,013 meters above sea level, which claims the title of Cebu’s highest point and one of the must-visit if you are interested in the beauty of the sunrise. The peak is located in Badian but can be easily reached from the starting point in Dalaguete. This natural scenic view draws trekkers and adventurers, offering a view that stretches across places in Bohol, Negros, and the Tañon Strait. Hikers go to lengths on a short but rugged trail just to witness the overlooking landscape that transcends into a great photograph and becomes an encounter with the gift of nature.

The trek can start in Dalaguete, also known as the “Vegetable Basket of Cebu.” The hike is excellent for those seeking an easy to moderate experience, with a summit accessible in under 30 minutes, set in a grassy landscape featuring stone formations that are easy for people, whether first-timers or not. The mountain will turn into a golden light that contrasts with the sky while the nearby ocean shimmers in the distance. The scent of the mountain grass and the crispness of the air create a peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation or meditation.

Don’t Snooze the Views
Consider starting before sunrise on a weekday to have the best hiking experience. Many travelers depart from the city late at night, arriving in Dalaguete or Moalboal, and then take a habal-habal to the trail’s starting point. Although there are some difficulties on the final hiking trail, it is still manageable for most. However, a guide is still recommended for first-time hikers. At the summit, people take various photos, picnic, camp, or simply enjoy the breathtaking view of the island before the place is lit up by the warm sunlight that strikes the mountain.
By Commute: Make your way to the South Bus Terminal and catch a bus heading to Dalaguete or one that passes through Dalaguete on its way to Bato. The ride typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Let the conductor know you’re getting off at the Eskina or corner going to Mantalongon. From there, hop on a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) for a 30- to 40-minute uphill journey to the Mantalongon Market, which serves as the jump-off point to Osmeña Peak. Once there, you can begin the trek to the summit either with a guide or on your own.
By Car: If you’re driving to Osmeña Peak, simply use navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze and set your destination to Mantalongon Market in Dalaguete, Cebu. From Cebu City, take the South Road Properties and follow the main highway heading south toward Dalaguete. Once you reach the town proper, look out for signs or follow directions leading up to Mantalongon. The road becomes narrower and steeper as you ascend, but it’s passable by private vehicles. Upon reaching the market area, you can park nearby and start your short trek to Osmeña Peak.

Marigondon and Punta Engaño in Lapu-lapu houses many beaches that belong to both financial spectrums. 1. Tonggo Beach
Tonggo beach or also known as “Ka-Tero” is a mini-paradise nestled in Marigondon. The low-hanging cliffs suspended over the shallow azure waters create canopies that provide shade from the sun while soaking in the water.
On the other side of the water is a verdant backdrop made by a couple of shrubs and ferns and a few occasional trees. There are also grasslands that are perfect for pitching tents while waiting for dust – an equally pleasing experience without getting in the water.
There are tents for rent but are only limited so it would be a great idea to bring your own.

BY CAR (recommended): Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and find your way to Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu. Upon arrival, ask the locals for directions to Tonggo Beach.
BY COMMUTE: Ride a 01K Jeepney to Parkmall from SM City or E-mall. In Parkmall, take a MI-04A jeepney going to Tamiya terminal. You can confirm with the jeepney drivers if they are passing by Tamiya terminal. From Tamiya, ride another multicab to Crossing Marigondon. Once there, look for habal-habal drivers and negotiate a ride to Eskina Bluereef or Ocean Pearl. If they’re willing, you can also ask them to just drop you off at the eskina of Tonggo Beach to shorten the distance to walk to the island.
2. Marigondon Public Beach
Despite being a public beach, this is considered as one of the finest public beaches in the Philippines even to the point that it rivals the beauty of the world-famous Boracay.
People frequent the fine white sands and pristine waters of the beach especially on weekends. Aside from being on par with the beauty of 5-star resorts, the coral reefs 300 yards off the beach also make it a hot spot for scuba divers because of its accessibility.
The aquatic flora and fauna thriving in the reef is something worth seeing as well.

BY CAR (recommended): Marigondon Beach is just a few minutes away from Mactan Cebu International Airport. Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set the destination to “Marigondon Beach”.
3. Crab Island
The Crab Island is already quite popular among the locals of Mactan. But not too many people know about this “hidden paradise” yet. Technically, there’s no entrance fee but there are some residents who might charge a “Tour Guide” fee, and we recommend to avail this as a help to preserve this attraction.

4. San Vicente Marine Fish Sanctuary
This area is considered as one of the most extensive reefs in the region. This 4,482-hectare island contains stretches of sandy beaches, rocky shoreline, and an abundance of marine life.
It is perfect for swimming and snorkeling around with the fishes in the water. This paradise belonging to the Olango Island Mactan Group is another budget destination for everybody.

By Commute: Ride a 01K jeepney (either from SM City or E-mall) that’s bound for Parkmall. From Parkmall, ride a jeep heading to Punta Engaño and drop off at Angasil Port then ride a boat to Olango island. Olango Island is only about a 20-minute boat ride from Mactan Island. There are 2 piers to catch boats; one is located in Mövenpick Resort (Punta Engaño) and the other is in Portofino resort. Fare is around Php 15.
5. Punta Engaño
Punta Engaño is the only public beach in this list that is not a pure white sand beach. Instead, Punta Engaño Beach is a natural collection of rocks and sand lining the coast and lush, green vegetation growing on some of the rock formations.

Tingko Beach in Alcoy reveals a fascinating natural wonder featuring a Mabad-on reef locally known as the Mambaje Reef. The transformation occurs daily, but it becomes most dramatic during the spring tide when it rises to 200 meters and becomes exposed. This phenomenon made Tingko Beach a favorite among tourists and locals for taking pictures and snorkeling, who match their visit during the tidal hours. At first, it appears as open water during high tide, and it becomes an interconnected series of tidal pools and coral gardens during low tide, offering a rare chance to explore marine life without going deeper into the water.

Fishin’ for Views
The beach itself features picturesque white sand framed by limestone cliffs and coconut palms that surround the island. At the right time, the reefs will reveal a whole show of corals, separated from the shore, and channel crystal waters not deeper than waist level. The natural lagoon biomes are designed for visitors to enjoy and participate in various fun activities. They can wade across to explore much further into the rich ecosystem. The tide features, including brain corals, sea anemones, and schools of tropical fish, remained visible in the glassy water, while sea urchins and starfish clung to the surface of the reef. The shallow depth of the sea makes it an ideal activity for novice snorkelers, who can fully immerse themselves in underwater visibility during calm conditions and pleasant weather.

Coral Lineage
The place is deeply rooted in Alcoy’s coastal culture, which was originally part of Barangay Daan Lungsod, formerly known as Mambaje, as this reef served as a navigation marker and fishing ground for generations of local fishermen. The municipal government now promotes Mabad-on reefs as a flagship attraction to promote ecotourism. Some locals share stories about the place, explaining how, before it was extended too far into the sea, it gradually retreated, which changed coastal currents over decades. It represents one of Alcoy’s last thriving nearshore corals, as it survives despite the pressures from climate change.

How To Get There?

By Car: The most direct route is to drive south via the Natalio Bacalso National Highway, which leads straight through scenic coastal towns like Sibonga and Boljoon. The entire trip typically takes about 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. You can use navigation apps such as Google Maps or Waze by typing in “Tingko Beach, Alcoy” as your destination. Parking is available near the beachfront, especially on weekdays when the area is less crowded.
By Commute: hop on a southbound bus from the Ceres Terminal in Carcar that’s headed toward Oslob or Santander, just make sure it passes Alcoy. The bus ride usually takes a bit over an hour, and you can simply tell the conductor to drop you off at Tingko Beach in Barangay Daan Lungsod. From the highway, the beach is just a short walk away. To catch the reef at its best, aim to arrive early in the morning during low tide, and consider checking in with the local tourism office for tide schedules and area updates.

Locals in Malabuyoc, Cebu, refer to the Little Kawasan as a secret spring because of its tranquil, wooded surroundings and turquoise waters. However, keep in mind that it is not formally known as “Little Kawasan” because it is only a comparison based on its likeness to the well-known, if smaller, Kawasan Falls in Badian.
The Hot Spring in Question
In Filipino, “mainit” means “hot,” and this spring certainly lives up to the description. Nestled beside the Montañeza River, this group of four geothermal pools has temperatures between 35.8°C and 42.6°C. While the colder pools are ideal for full-body immersion, the hotter ones are frequently utilized for foot soaks. Although it serves a distinct function, the Mainit hot spring’s thermal waters provide a soothing spa experience in the middle of a forest.

Benefits of the Hot Springs
The heat from the hot spring comes from volcanic rocks and fault lines linked to Negros Oriental. The water contains sulfur, calcium, magnesium, and potassium where it sases muscle and joint pain, soothes skin conditions like eczema and promotes blood circulation and relaxation.

The Enchanting Layout
The hot spring has 4 pools and is arranged in tiers beside the river, hence the comparison to the Kawasan Falls. It is surrounded by bamboo forests, coconut palms, and a limestone cliff backdrop, and the artificial pools are constructed out of stone and concrete right into the riverbed. A hot-cold plunge experience is made possible by the hot spring water flowing into the chilly Montañeza River. The first two pools you’ll encounter are the hottest so you better test the water before entering. The lower pools are more comfortable and often shaded. The riverbank is rocky but shallow which is perfect for cooling off between soaks.

Locals say that before Mainit Hot Springs became what it is today, some engkantos lived there. These are mythical creatures that are often referred to as elves or fairies.
By Commute: From Cebu City, ride a Ceres bus at the Cebu South Terminal bound for Bato via Barili. Tell the conductor you’re getting off at Malabuyoc town proper. Once there, hire a habal-habal to Barangay Montañeza and from the drop off point, the walk uphill will take about 10-20 minutes to the hot springs.
