#CommuterDiscomfort: Things We Hate When Riding A Jeepney

Riding a jeepney is a daily activity for many people in the Philippines. While it’s a cheap and easy way to travel, there are some things that can make the ride annoying.

Here are some common things people dislike when riding a jeepney.

SOBRA KA DAGHAN ANG PASAHERO (OVERCROWDING)

Jeepneys often have too many people, making it hard to sit comfortably. Passengers are squished together, and sometimes people even have to stand or hang on the side. The driver or conductor might say there’s still room, even when the jeepney is already full, making it even more crowded.

INIT WAY HANGIN (HEAT & LACK OF VENTILATION)

It can get very hot inside the jeepney, and the air doesn’t move well. This makes it feel like a sauna and can be very uncomfortable.

TRAFFIC

Traffic jams can make the ride take a lot longer. Sitting in traffic is frustrating and makes the trip seem endless.

USAHAY NAAY BAHO (BAD SMELL)

Screengrab from Esnyr’s YouTube Channel

Sometimes there are unpleasant smells inside the jeepney, like body odor, food, or exhaust fumes, which can make the ride very unpleasant.

SABA (NOISY)

The loud music or noise from other passengers can be annoying. It’s hard to relax or think with all the noise.

SIKIT KAAYO ANG LINGKORAN (CRAMPED SPACE)

The seats are often small and cramped, making it uncomfortable to sit, especially during long rides.

KUNG DILI MUNAOG, DILI MO PLETE (LATE PAYMENT OF THE FARE)

Some passengers take a long time to pay their fare, slowing down the trip because the driver waits for the payment.

BUHOK SA IMONG TAPAD MAGLUPAD-LUPAD SA IMONG NAWONG (UNHYGIENIC EXPERIENCE)

Screengrab from Esnyr’s YouTube Channel

The hair of the person next to you can sometimes fly into your face, which is very annoying and uncomfortable.

DILI MUSIKIT BISAG GALISUD NAKA

Screengrab from Esnyr’s YouTube Channel

Some passengers won’t move to give space, even when you’re barely holding on. This makes it hard to get in or out and can be very frustrating.

Despite these annoyances, jeepneys remain an important part of daily life in the Philippines. So, it’s important to navigate Cebu’s jeepney routes like a pro. Understanding these common issues can help us be more patient and considerate while using this popular mode of transportation.

Share your icks whenever you ride a jeepney in the comments below, Sugboanons, and let’s discuss!

With the strong mission of showcasing Rose Pharmacy’s “We Care Passionately” spirit, the company once again held their annual Cancer Warrior Run yesterday, July 21, 2024, at the Sumilon and Pescadores Road, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City!

The Cancer Warriors Run 2024 launched with a fun zumba session at 4:00 AM, while the gunstart started at 4:30 AM.

The charity event not only aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle, but it also strives to show solidarity with cancer patients and their families by spreading awareness and building a community united in making a difference in the battle against childhood cancer. Aside from that, the Cancer Warriors Run also stood on their goal to raise funds for their partner, the Cancer Warriors Foundation Inc.

In 2019, Rose Pharmacy and the Warriors Run donated P1 million to the Cancer Warriors Foundation Inc., which they used to support the foundation during the pandemic.

This event first started in 2018 and was put to a halt during the pandemic from 2020 to 2021 before making its return in 2022.

Ngano diay ganahan ka’g mas maguwang nimo ug edad?

A lot of people are now dating older people. However, it is still frowned upon by many due to the possibility of power imbalance within the relationship that might lead to coercion and abuse by the older partner.

Nevertheless, relationship experts have revealed several benefits of dating older partners!

Benefits of Dating Older Men

Some females of our generation are now prompting to date older males due to the following reasons according to experts:

GOOD COMMUNICATORS

GOOD ADVISORS

Older men already have many life experiences filling their knowledge bowl to the brim. Making them the perfect advisors for your life choices and challenges.

STABLE SOCIAL LIFE

Most older men already had their fair share of adventures and socializing. Hence, most of them just want to settle down already and socializing is not the top priority anymore. Giving them more time to put attention on you, which means more baby time with them!

FINANCIAL STABILITY

Men who are already in the adulting stage already have a stable stream of income coming to their pockets. This means that younger females might not have a financial problem within the relationship. Making them more attractive as a potential partner.

READY TO ACCEPT ‘YOU’

Older men tend to have a wider perspective on things compared to their younger counterparts. Giving them open-mindedness, which leads them to accept a person for being them. It does not matter if their partners lose or gain weight or dress however they like, what matters for them is that they act as themselves.

Benefits of Dating Older Women

Just like younger females, some younger males also like to date women who are older than them and relationship experts have revealed some reasons why:

LESS DRAMA

Majority of older women are already well-adjusted and have had their fair share of drama in life. Making them tired of continuous drama within a relationship. So, it is good news for guys who do not like numerous dramatic episodes within a romantic relationship.

MATURE

Just like older men, older women already have a stack of life experiences within their shelves. Additionally, older women develop emotional maturity when they reach the age of 30. Giving them the ability to handle challenges in a calm and composed manner.

COMPASSIONATE AND TOLERANT

Most older women already have countless ups and downs in their lives making them more understanding towards a person. Giving them the ability to feel more empathy towards someone. Moreover, they won’t nag you about the small flaws that you have done in the past and would likely leave them behind once the problem is fixed.

LOTS OF WISE ADVICE

Photo from Regine Alcasid’s Official Instagram Account

Due to their maturity and lots of life experiences, older women can give someone wise advice pertaining to an individual’s life choices and challenges. Moreover, their advice is precise and on-point making them the perfect solution for the dilemmas presented.

IN CONTROL OF THEIR FEELINGS

Photo from Pia Wurtzbach’s Official Instagram Account

Older women have likely experienced a lot of life problems already and learned a lot from them. Giving her the ability to fully take control of her emotions when it is needed within a relationship.

— Dating older people offers many benefits to the young people dating them. However, it is important to remember that the benefits they offer should not be taken advantage of, because they too are humans. They get tired if you always take and do not offer something in return leading to an abrupt end of the relationship.

#NutritionMonth: Diet Types to Help You Stay Healthy & Fit

Lagsik lagi ka, unsa diay diet nimo?

Photos from Ram Mancelita

Wanna get healthy and fit? Then try these diets approved and recommended by doctors!

MEDITERRANEAN DIET

Photo from Canva

This type of diet has been approved and highly recommended by doctors. The Mediterranean diet has been thoroughly studied by doctors and has been found to duly help you with heart disease prevention.

This diet includes foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, olive oil, fish and seafood. These foods must be eaten a couple of times a week. Moreover, a moderation of poultry, eggs, cheese and yogurt is also recommended. What’s more is that a single glass of red wine is acceptable to accompany your dinner meal.

DASH

Photo from Canva

Dash stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This is another type of diet that is crafted by National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute that aims to lower an individual’s blood pressure by lowering your sodium intake.

The DASH diet largely puts an emphasis on eating foods with less sugars and fats. The foods included in this diet are red meats, fiber-filled fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein-rich foods.

PALEO DIET

Photo from Canva

People who would like to lose weight while staying healthy follow this type of diet. Currently, this diet is the most popular in the world. The diet aims to consume foods unprocessed mimicking how paleo ancestors eat their game. The Paleo diet includes foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds.

INTERMITTENT FASTING

Photo from Canva

A diet that has been largely used by people to lose weight is “intermittent fasting.” Nevertheless, despite its low health risk, only a handful of doctors recommend this type of diet. This diet has eating restrictions according to certain periods of time.

There are no particular foods recommended in this type of diet since this largely puts an emphasis on when to eat rather than what to eat. The fasting has different versions of it; one is the full-day fasting for two consecutive days. While other versions recommend an alternate day of fasting or a limited eating time each day.

VEGAN

Photo from Canva

The vegan diet is gaining popularity and receiving increasing support from the medical community. While animal sources provide certain vitamins and nutrients, the vegan community, backed by extensive medical research, has identified plant-based alternatives.

This diet centers around plant-based foods, excluding animal-derived products like eggs, fish, and dairy. As a result, maintaining this diet can pose more challenges compared to others. However, many find it fulfilling in the long term due to its sustainability and health benefits.

KETOGENIC

Photo from Canva

This type of diet is widely used by people who are aiming for a rapid weight loss. However, just like intermittent fasting and vegan diets, only a handful of doctors have recommended this diet as the best choice for optimal health.

The diet principally aims to lower your carb intake, moderate protein, and high in fats. The foods include fish and seafood, meat and poultry, non-starchy vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, and zucchini, avocados, berries, nuts and seeds, eggs, high-fat dairy products, olive oil and other oils, and high-cocoa chocolate.

Photo from Freepik

— There are many diet types out there, however, most of them are not yet proven and tested, which makes them prone to dangerous health risks. However, the diet types listed above are proven, tested and recommended by doctors. Hence, to stay healthy and fit start by following the types of diets mentioned above.

Smart Ukay-Ukay Tips to Thrift Like a Thrift God

0

Shopping at ukay-ukay stores is like going into a treasure hunt where you can find unique and cool items at great prices. Whether you’re new to thrifting or a pro, having a plan can help you save and get more items.

Things to Prep

Here are some tips to help you when you go thrift shopping:

Clear Perspective

Decide what you’re looking for, whether it’s a specific outfit or just exploring. This will help you focus on quality or quantity. Having a goal, or maybe a Pinterest lookbook can make your ukay-ukay adventure easier when flipping through items on and off the rack.

Large Bag

Ukay-ukay stores are filled with hidden treasures, so a big bag is essential, especially if you plan to purchase many items. And to be a responsible shopper, opt for reusable shopping bags.

Wear a Comfortable Attire

Choose comfortable clothing like leggings and shirts for easy trying-on of items. Don’t forget to bring alcohol for disinfecting and wear your face mask to avoid dust allergies.

Cash

Most UKAY-UKAY stores still prefer cash transactions over digital banks, so it’s safer to bring cash and coins with you.

Things to Do

Plan Your Ukay-Ukay Approach

Survey the store quickly and decide which section to start with. Signs may indicate styles or prices, making your search more efficient.

Stay Focused

Stick to your original plan and avoid distractions unless they match your goals.

Thoroughly Inspect Items

Check items carefully for any damage or defects, even while managing your expectations. You’d want to avoid spending more to fix the damages than being able to save on your next fashion haul.

Negotiate Prices

Don’t hesitate to bargain, especially if purchasing multiple items. Vendors may be willing to lower prices when you ask politely.

With these tips, you’re all set for your next ukay-ukay adventure. Remember to stay focused, check items carefully and have fun thrifting!

#FanTalk: Here Are Signs Of A Toxic Fandom

Raise your lightstick if you’re part of a fandom!

Photo from Freepik

Fandoms are communities of fans who support a particular person, group, show, book, or other forms of entertainment. While most fandoms are positive and supportive, some can be toxic.

Here are the common signs of a TOXIC FANDOM.

Bullying

This happens when fans are mean or rude to others who like different things or have different opinions. They might send hurtful messages online or make fun of others in person.

Excluding

Some fans believe that only certain people can be true fans. They might say that others aren’t real fans because they don’t know enough about the show, movie, or book, or because they like different parts of it.

Demanding

These fans feel that creators should always do what they want. If the creator makes something they don’t like, they get very angry and might even send mean messages to them.

Stalking

This is when fans follow or invade the private lives of creators, actors, or other fans. They might try to find out where they live, constantly send messages, or try to meet them in private places without being invited.

Can’t Take Criticisms

Some fans can’t handle hearing anything negative about their favorite show, movie, or book. They get very upset and might attack anyone who says something bad about it. These fans refuse to see any flaws in what they love. They believe it’s perfect and won’t listen to anyone who points out problems or suggests improvements.

Over Positive

This is when fans won’t allow negative talk about their fandom. They might shut down conversations or attack people who try to discuss any issues or problems.

Forgets Boundaries

Some fans don’t respect the personal space of limit set by other. They might send too many messages, try to meet or demand too much

Lying

These fans spread false information to control what people think. They might make up stories or twist the truth to make other fans look bad

Fighting with Other Fans

Toxic fans often create unnecessary fights with fans of other shows, movies, or books. They might say mean things, start arguments, or try to prove that their favorite thing is better.

Recognizing these signs can help your fandom be more welcoming to the other fans. And if you know a toxic fandom, maybe it’s time to call them out; comment their group names in the comments below!

Shorter Route to MCIA

Traveling to Mactan-Cebu International Airport can be grueling sometimes, especially if it is already in the rush hour. However, a planned construction of a bridge might remedy this problem.

Last Thursday, July 11, 2024, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan disclosed in his speech in the Tourism Dialogue held in Shangri-La Mactan that the city is set to begin constructing an expressway aiming to reduce the travel time going to Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Lapu-Lapu Expressway

Mayor Chan further disclosed in his speech that the bridge will be named Lapu-Lapu Expressway. Further announcing that the signing of the memorandum of understanding will be done after the week Tourism Dialogue took place.

“By next week, we will be signing the memorandum of understanding with the proponent PMI and the new partner, which is the Manny Pangilinan group. After the signing next week, we will immediately begin the project.”

Mayor Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan

The memorandum will be signed along with Premium Megastructures Inc. and a new partner, the MVP Group of Companies. As of now, the layout of the LLEX is still under finalization. The bridge will aim to connect the Pilipog Bridge to MCIA.

Photo from Premium Megastructures Inc.

The bridge will have its starting point in Barangay Babag 2, and will be passing through the following Lapu-Lapu sites:

Mactan Economic Zone – Mactan Aviation Road – Barangays Pajac – Buaya – Bankal – Ibo

The bridge will then have its exit point in Pusok.

— The construction of the bridge will surely be a huge benefit for many Cebuano people, especially when they are running late to their flight schedules. Additionally, this will also help lessen the road congestion of Lapu-Lapu roads.

Into the Woods: A Natural Spring in Malabuyoc — Aranzana Natural Spring

The south of Cebu is mostly well-known for its collection of numerous waterfalls and white sand shorelines.

Image contributed by Philma Marie Latayada

However, unbeknownst to many, it is also home for quite a number of springs like Obong Spring in Dalaguete and Guadalupe Mabugnao Mainit Hot Spring National Park in Carcar. Nevertheless, a relatively hidden location in the south also cradles a breathtaking natural beauty.

The Town of Malabuyoc

In the south of Cebu, 125 kilometers away from the heart of the Metro, sits the rather small town of Malabuyoc. The town is relatively known for its crystal clear beaches, breathtaking waterfalls and lush green forests.

A Spring Among the Woods

Among the towering trees of the Malabuyoc forests lies a hidden wonder that is waiting to be discovered by adventurous souls. Aranza Natural Springs is a collection of springs sitting in the lush green forests of Barangay Aranzana, Malabuyoc.

Image contributed by Philma Marie Latayada

These springs flow straight towards the rivers of Barangay Aranzana, while some of the springs flow to small pools which are artificially created by the locals in the area. Apparently, the freshwater from the spring is one of the main sources of drinking water by the locals!

HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact Location: J8WP+V2R, Malabuyoc, Cebu

  • By Car: Navigate via Waze or Google Maps and pin the location “Aranzana Natural Spring.” Find the town’s sole Western Union Money Transfer location. That building is directly next to a road. Once you notice a fork, continue driving for a minimum of one minute. Take a right turn and continue driving until you come to a large river. However, you must leave your vehicle at the coconut forest near the spring.

By Commute: Ride a bus in Cebu South Bus Terminal going to Malabuyoc. Then ask the driver or conductor to drop you off at Western Union. A road going to the spring is just beside the establishment. From there, ask the locals for proper directions heading to the place.
