This is a great spot for hiking, with beautiful views and lots of greenery. Spend some time exploring the trails or enjoy the scenery. Take your time to enjoy the fresh air and the peaceful surroundings of Kan-Irag. The park is perfect for nature lovers and don’t forget to bring water and some snacks to keep you energized during your hike.

Sirao Garden

After enjoying the view at Kan-irag you can walk over to Sirao Garden. Sirao Garden is often called the “Little Amsterdam ” of Cebu because of its beautiful flower farm which is full of colorful flowers. It’s a great spot to take pictures and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The garden also features windmills and other decorations that enhance the experience.

Little Kyoto

From Sirao, hire another motorcycle to take you to Little Kyoto, which is just a 10-minute ride away. Little Kyoto features a Japanese garden with traditional buildings and koi ponds. Parvo Awareness Month in the Philippines is observed every July during the rainy season. It is a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness about canine parvovirus, a highly contagious viral illness that primarily affects dogs.

What Is Parvo?

Canine parvovirus is a serious and often fatal disease, particularly affecting puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It is characterized by symptoms such as severe vomiting, diarrhea (watery and bloody), fatigue and loss of appetite. The virus spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or contaminated objects and surfaces, making it crucial for dog owners to maintain good hygiene and vaccination.

Activities during this month typically include informational seminars, discounted and free vaccination drives and community outreach programs to educate dog owners about the risks and preventive measures associated with parvovirus.

The Myth of Sigbin

A Philippine mythological that is known to be commonly seen during the night. They are also infamously known for their vampiric tendencies in which they suck blood from their victims from their victim’s shadow.

The Sigbin is known to walk backwards with its head lowered between its hind legs. These creatures also have the ability to become invisible. They apparently emit a very foul odor that can make nearby creatures nauseate.

Oral hearsays state that the Sigbins usually come out from their lair during the Holy Week, where they look for children to snatch their hearts to craft them into amulets for their own use. Some people believe that these creatures are reared by rich people or other mythological creatures like aswangs.

In the olden belief, they say that if you see a Sigbin nearby, then it is a clear sign that an aswang is also near the vicinity. Hence, it is advisable to run if you see one.

What does a Sigbin look like?

Records that were passed down orally state that Sigbins resemble a hornless goat. They also have very long ears which have the ability to clap like hands. Their tails are long and flexible, which they use as a whip towards their potential victims. In some beliefs, the feet of these creatures are facing the wrong way which is the main reason why they walk backwards.

— It is interesting to see that our own culture has many colors and things that are yet to be unraveled. However, it is quite sad to think that most of the current generation has forgotten about these legends and myths that were the foundation of our modern culture. 2 or 3 storms may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the month of July!

A Storm?

The months of July to December in the Philippines are expected to have rains and storms. Further proving this point, according to a recent report made by PAG-ASA, the country shall expect 2 or 3 storms entering its premises during the month of July.

The report further revealed that according to their climatological model, most July storms pass by the Bicol region and move further north of Luzon which gives it the possibility to recurve to Japan.

However, it was noted that typhoons may not landfall and only pass the northern part of the country. Though the possible storms may enhance the flow of hanging habagat that can bring heavy rains to Luzon and Visayas.

The Wrath of La Niña

After the excruciating heat brought by El Niño during the summer season in the Philippines, the country might expect more rainfalls and thunderstorms in the month of July. Signaling the entrance of El Niño ‘s sister, La Niña.

This weather phenomenon intensifies the usual strength of trade winds opting for a wider entrance of warm water within Asia. Significantly cooling the surface temperatures of the Equatorial Pacific bringing about unusual cold temperatures within the Pacific Ocean vicinity.

On July 3, at 4:00 in the morning, DOST just published a 24-hour public weather forecast. According to the report, an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may affect the Palawan region and Mindanao, while the Easterlies will be showing visible effects in the eastern parts of the country.

Get ready to get spooked by our very own psychological horror video game Ligaw!

Ligaw is an indie video game that was developed by Filipino developers.

A Filipino Video Game

The video game Ligaw was originally capstoned from a thesis of four classmates from the University of Caloocan City.

The game is currently developed under Raven Studios. Apparently, the video game took inspiration from the delivery riders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video game follows the delivery journey of a delivery rider in the Philippines during the night. The rider will be having the objective of delivering packages to residential homes in Caloocan City. You are the delivery rider in the game, where you will encounter strange visions and startling noises as you pave the eskinitas of Caloocan.

The game will start with the usual package deliveries, until one customer insists on having his package delivered inside his residential home, and that signifies the start of chapter 1. From then on, the game will continue to progress as programmed.

More Than Just A Game

Recently, the video game created a buzz in social media. Some content creators even tried playing the beta test of the game. A youtube content creator remarked “P*ta**a Pinoy na Pinoy!” after seeing the interior of the game setting, further adding, “This is a Filipino Apartment!” We can even observe some streamers get spooked and clamor while playing the game.

However, Ligaw is more than just a game. The video game retells and commemorates the struggles of our delivery riders before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. It shows how hard their livelihood truly is. That it is not easy to fulfill their task.

One of the game creators remarked, “Sila ‘yung naging way natin para makaconenct sa labas, kumilos,” further adding that, “Napapagod sila. Hindi rin biro ‘yung nararanasan nila.” Truly, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the delivery riders were one of the unsung heroes and uncrowned kings.

— The Philippines is one of the largest gaming communities in the entire world, and with the creation of the psychological horror game Ligaw, we Filipinos will surely leave a huge mark in the gaming industry and community. Also, may this video game opt other game developers in the country to level up their standards of creation in the gaming industry.
