Nagmeet-up, nangaon, nag-trauma dumping… but, what is “trauma dumping?”
Photo from Canva
The term “trauma dumping” may be relatively new, but the concept has existed alongside psychology itself. It describes the act of sharing one’s trauma and struggles with someone else without their consent or acceptance to talk about it. Essentially, it involves offloading personal issues onto another person, leaving them no choice in the matter.
Is Trauma Dumping a Red Flag?
Short answer? YES! Trauma dumping is a gigantic red flag, even among friends. Everyone faces their own challenges, and while some may handle your emotional load, it’s unfair to impose your struggles on others without considering their circumstances. Venting differs from trauma dumping; the latter disregards the emotional capacity of the listener.
Photo from Canva
Some of the effects of trauma dumping in relationships include:
Emotional Exhaustion – The friend you confide in might eventually feel drained by the weight of your emotional struggles. Ironically, you might also feel exhausted by the constant need for validation, creating a cycle of emotional fatigue for both parties.
Desensitization – Just as customer service reps can become numb to harsh words over time, friends who repeatedly hear trauma stories may lose their empathy and understanding. What once felt significant may start to feel routine and less impactful.
Fear of Sharing – Your friend might hesitate to share their own feelings for fear of adding to your emotional load. This can lead to feelings of isolation and create a one-sided dynamic in the relationship.
How to Build and Support Relationships Without Trauma Dumping
Photo from Canva
Finding a balance between being vulnerable and respecting boundaries is essential. So, before getting into heavy topics, ask your friend genuinely if it is the right time to talk about it and if your person is in the right space to listen. Then, when it’s a go, opt to practice active listening and offer a time to share mutually for you to both express your feelings without overwhelming each other.
Above all, when everything in your life just seems to tumble and spiral, seek professional help! Even therapists themselves have their own therapists or counselors to provide support without putting strains on their personal relationships.

So, Sugboanons, quit the habit of trauma dumping; it is selfish, inconsiderate, and can do more harm than good in your relationships.
“Let your heart be disturbed… Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything. Am I not here, your Mother?” –Our Lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego
Photo by Franchesca Marie Quijada Gamboa
We all know Our Lady of Guadalupe as the Roman Catholic image of the Virgin Mary, who is said to have appeared to Saint Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac in 16th-century Mexico. Known as La Virgen Morena or “The Brown Virgin” in Mexico, she is one of the most beloved and protective figures of the Blessed Virgin. The Virgin of Guadalupe is deeply rooted in Mexican culture and identity. Her shrine, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, is the second most visited Catholic shrine site in the world, following San Pedro’s Basilica in Vatican City.
“I would love to build a temple here… to be a witness of my love and mercy, giving relief and protection. Because I am a compassionate Mother to all who love me and those who trust me and ask for my help. I will listen to their cries and pleas when I give them protection and rest.”
The Virgin of Guadalupe said to Juan Diego
Every December 12, a feast for the Mother of Guadalupe is celebrated, commemorating her appearances at Juan Diego from December 9-12, 1531.
LANGUB SHRINE IN CEBU CITY
Photo by Franchesca Marie Quijada Gamboa
If you would like to visit one of the shrines of Birhen sa Guadalupe here in Cebu, here’s one Langub Shrine, or Cave Shrine that you would like to see. This serene and peaceful church offers worshippers a quiet space to pray to the Virgin Mary without distractions. In fact, the limited internet connection in the area serves as a blessing, allowing visitors to focus entirely on their religious devotion without the interruption of technological peril.
This shrine became popular for its water drippings that come out from the cave, which many worshippers believe can heal any sickness. Faith in Our Lady is said to bring miracles into people’s lives, and countless visitors come here to pray, give thanks, and seek blessings for themselves and their families. Trust in the Virgin Mary, and her grace will guide and protect you in life.
ORIGINS
Photo by Franchesca Marie Quijada Gamboa
Legend has it that a chicken trapper named Ricardo Ramirez stumbled upon the shrine while living in the lush forests of what was then Barrio Banawan (now Barangay Guadalupe). While setting his traps, he noticed a mysterious flash of light emanating from a place known as the “langub nga duha’y baba,” or the “cave with two mouths.” Intrigued, Ricardo ventured inside and discovered that the source of the light was a statue of Our Lady, elegantly perched atop a naturally formed rock, beside a steady drip of water cascading into a basin-shaped stone below.
Excited by his discovery, Ricardo shared his find with the teniente del barrio and later with the leader of the local prayer group. They quickly sought out the parish priest to show him the statue. Upon seeing it, the priest recognized it as an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He requested to keep the statue at the parish and subsequently gave his blessing for the construction of a small chapel in her honor.

“Privacy is dead, and social media holds the smoking gun.” –Pete Cashmore
Shocking news spread across social media, particularly on X (formerly known as Twitter) after the company announced plans to remove the block button. This change means that users you’ve blocked will still be able to view your posts if your account is set to public mode, raising concerns about privacy and user safety.
Musk faced numerous backlash in the comments, with users expressing concerns about the decision, arguing that risks user privacy and safety. Blocking is an essential feature to protect against harassment, abuse, or other harmful behavior online. It’s a way to maintain personal boundaries in the digital space. By removing this feature, Musk is essentially stripping away a tool for self-defense, potentially empowering stalkers and harmful individuals across the platform.
BLOCKING “MAKES NO SENSE”?
The Verge reported on Musk’s aversion to the block button, which he expressed in June 2023, saying it “makes no sense”. He argued that even though you blocked someone from any connection of your profile, doesn’t prevent them from viewing your profile using a different account and a different name, or as we also like to call them “Stalk Accounts”.
Users already knew that Elon Musk taking over the rights for Twitter was a major red flag. Posts from other social media platforms expressed relief at leaving X, citing privacy concerns. Celebrities, in particular, abandoned their accounts following Musk’s purchase of the company, opting for safer alternatives.
NETIZENS WEIGHED ON MUSK’S SIDE OF THE STORY
Photo from Getty Images
One user agreed with Musk, stating that even if you’re blocked from seeing someone, you can just use an alt account to see their tweets, in other case, blocking still doesn’t stop them from seeing your post. Another user thinks it’s dumb to just block someone and expect them to “disappear” when they can just go incognito or change accounts and see everything again. That user assured they’re against 99.9% of the thing Musk does, but nothing still changes even after he removes the block button. Privacy is still dead, Elon was just disposing of something useless.
So, Sugboanons, do you agree with Elon Musk’s idea? Probably think it through, especially when you gossip about it at home to your families, or at school to your friends and classmates.

Mutan-aw ba ka ug true crime para makatog? Tsk tsk. Murag red flag ata ka, Sugboanon!
Photo from Canva
Let’s be honest, true crime dramas are gaining popularity in recent years due to their thrilling stories and the mystery of it all. But, did you know that psychologists caution against excessive interests towards the genre? Well, here’s why:
Curiosity vs Obsession
Study shows that those who relax on true crime have regular exposure to numbing their emotional responses which leads to desensitization to violence. In addition, binging on thrillers can also result in increased anxiety. So, if you caught yourself constantly turning around to watch out for your back during or after watching true crime episodes, then that’s already a sign.
Although true crime dramas can be a source of entertainment, compulsive watching may become a coping mechanism and an unhealthy fixation on anything related to the macabre which can result in that person lacking in empathy and may lean on being fascinated by suffering.

Why We Watch True Crime
Many watch true crime due to these reasons:
#1: We Wanna Know Why Criminals Kill
Questions such as what goes behind the minds of a criminal and what motivated them to do such heinous things are the common ones that rise to our thoughts as we watch true crime dramas. We love analyzing things and putting ourselves in the shoes of the detectives, as well as attempting to solve an unclosed case; giving us a sense of intelligence.
#2: We Want to Avoid Being Caught in One
Most true crime watchers take note of what the victim did prior to the incident. This makes the viewer be more aware of his surroundings. For instance, if an episode is about an unresolved kidnapping case, then a viewer may keep in mind what sort of places to avoid, better yet, what items to carry along all the time as a tool to protect oneself.
#3: We Want to Relate to the Involved.
Again, putting ourselves in their shoes to try and get to live in the exact moment leading up to the events. Some people place themselves in the shoes of the victim, while others, unfortunately, relate to the suspects and killers in a strange way. Having the emotional and mental connections makes the stories even more compelling and draws us, the viewers, even deeper into the plot itself.
We’re not discouraging you to watch true crime, but finding the right balance when it comes to your genres is important, most especially to maintain a healthy set of thoughts. Remember, as humans, our curiosity can easily tip into obsession; and that can do you more harm than good.
