Create Your Own Summer Stories at SM Seaside’s Summer Wonderland

A summer destination is creating quite a buzz in the city. SM Seaside City Cebu has transformed their Skypark to a wonderland of safe outdoor summer activities.

Your summer stories are going to be full of colors, smiles and fun as there will be seven (7) different activities that you, your family and friends can enjoy from April 4 to June 6, 2021.

Plan your summer escapade now in the most convenient way where you can shop and escape the summer heat all while enjoying a productive day.

SUMMER WONDERLAND ACTIVITIES

1. Sunset Lane

Groove to the beat on a lane where you can experience Al fresco dining to the fullest. There’s a collection of different treats and food from the stalls and nearby restaurants. As a wide-open space, you’ll be treated with a sky view like no other and watch all the colors in the sky change into a stunning sunset view.

2. Coolers Pop-up

Beat the heat in literally the coolest way possible by spoiling yourself with all the cold drinks from different pop-up stalls set up for refreshments and other food and non-food options. A variety of other summer must-haves and cool treats are also available so make sure to visit all the fun stalls!

3. Picnic Pods

It’s one of those dream perfect dates. May it be romantic dates, family dates or friendly dates, you can enjoy all that nice summer picnic safely in a designated area at the Skypark. Spend the day lounging and having light conversations as you relax and have a great time at the Picnic Pods.

4. Immersive Photo Spots

Everyone knows how important photo spots are in this day and age. Well, you are in for a treat because there will be fun Art Installations set-up with immersive effects that are perfect for the ‘gram. Take a fun pose and snap a photo in each one of them!

5. Art Walk of Fame

A self-guided art trail where you can view different artworks by Cebuano artists. It’s a collection that will make you embrace local art and all its forms. Take that Art Walk now and bring out that creative soul in you.

There are only a handful of places that are pet-friendly and some are even too far. Summer Wonderland, however, opens the Paw Park to have the best summer outdoor playground for you and your furry friend. You can have your daily exercises here and even play games, training and other activities with your furriends as well.

On Thursday night, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) released its official, consolidated data of the COVID-19 cases in the region as of April 22, 2021.

Today, the whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and the Cebu Province — recorded 170 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 135 new recoveries, and 2 new deaths. This brings Cebu’s total confirmed cases to 49,729, while the active cases increased to 3,172 (from 3,139).

Breakdown of cases:

Cebu City
– Total confirmed: 22,991 (+69 new)
– Total recoveries: 21,275 (+48 new)
– Total deaths: 827 (+1 new)
– Active cases: 889

Lapu-Lapu City
– Total confirmed: 6,091 (+24 new)
– Total recoveries: 5,155 (+2 new)
– Total deaths: 155 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 781

Mandaue City
– Total confirmed: 6,199 (+25 new)
– Total recoveries: 5,499 (+38 new)
– Total deaths: 208 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 492

Cebu Province
– Total confirmed: 14,448 (+52 new)
– Total recoveries: 12,819 (+47 new)
– Total deaths: 619 (+1 new)
– Active cases: 1,010

Summary of COVID-19 cases in Cebu:

Total Confirmed Cases in Cebu: 49,729 (+170 new)

A total of 4,252 laboratory results were released for today.

NOTES from DOH-7:

*As per DOH-7, the additional deaths in the report are not due to the overnight spike in deaths but due to more accurate data collection and validating efforts. Not all of those deaths occurred today but occurred more than a week ago.
Reports maybe subject to change as these claims undergo thorough validation by the local healthcare offices and health personnel.

Montpeller Falls: Elegantly Tall Waterfalls in Alegria

Who would have thought that despite it displaying a tall vertical drop, this waterfall in Alegria remains hidden from the eyes of many tourists seeking refreshment now that summer heat starts to kick in?

Montpeller Falls in Brgy. Guadalupe Alegria is a sight to behold. It’s a waterfall with a thin water flowing from a limestone that creates an estimated 100-ft drop to a boulder in the pool of cold and refreshing emerald water. It’s tall and is definitely a good spot for your next waterfalls gaming.

Montpellar Trek

The residents find this waterfall an easy trek as compared to the other more famous waterfalls in the area. From the jump off point, you will have to trek for around 15 minutes passing through a rich showcase of green foliage. Along the way, you will pass by different houses so if you feel like you’re lost, a quick chat with the friendly residents can be helpful, not to mention that there are also children who would gladly take you to the foot of the falls.

Hiking through what seems to be a mini jungle makes the journey more exciting and memorable. You don’t really need an expensive staycation to pamper yourself. A walk under tall trees with nothing but birds chirping from above is just pure bliss. It’s a perfect way to detach from city noise and just be immersed in a therapeutic nature experience.

You will also be treated with a view of the sea and the towns from afar as you traverse the trail. If the weather is fine, the neighboring island of Negros Oriental is also visible from several clearings along the path. You will realize you’re near when you can already hear the gushing of the water as it crashes against the large boulder.

The trek is worth it when you start to dip yourself in the pool at its foot brimming with cold water. Just be careful though before you take a plunge and do acrobatic dives because some parts can be rocky and shallow. Here, nature will treat you and your tired soul with luxurious ambiance. The falls is virtually untouched.

Despite it being a paradise of its own, only few have come to experience the wonders of Montpeller Falls. It’s definitely an off the beaten track so you are guaranteed that we you go there especially early in the morning, you will have the fall all for yourself – such a good way to start the day by falling in love with the falls.

There are no facilities or establishments around or near the area yet so you will have to bring your water and snacks when you go there. Everyone is advised to strictly observe social distancing. While the entrance to this haven is free which makes it more enticing, still, let us not forget to be responsible in bringing our trash with us when leaving the place.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact location: Barangay Guadalupe, Alegria, Southern Cebu — approx. 4 hours away from Cebu City.

BY COMMUTE: Take a bus or vhire from Cebu South Bus Terminal passing by the municipality of Alegria. Once you’re in the town proper, you can ride a habal-habal on your way up to the start of the trail.

BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Montpellier Waterfall” in Alegria. Keep an eye out for a bamboo hut with a painted sign on the edge of the cliff. This will be the spot to park your car or motorbike. Ask the locals around where the starting point of the trail is.

Badian Zipline Adventure: Jumpstarting your canyoneering adventure in Badian

A shortcut where you are suspended midair and zipping a kilometer in a minute? Sign me in.

Nature-lovers and adventure seekers always have to take the scenic route before reaching the Kawasan Falls and enjoy its various adventures. As a solution, Badian Tourism introduced a scenic shortcut that will take everyone to the falls significantly faster.

The Badian Zipline is the perfect way to jumpstart everyone’s canyoneering adventures in the municipality. Aside from that, it also cuts the time needed to reach the falls through traditional routes by 45 minutes which saves everyone a lot of time and gives more room for other adventures. Spanning a distance of 1 kilometer, the Badian Zipline is considered as the longest zipline in the south of Cebu.

This scenic and unconventional route to the canyoneering adventures in Kawasan Falls is the perfect warmup activity for adrenaline junkies and adventure seekers after 4 long hours of sitting and traveling from Cebu City. The zipline might just help you get your body ready for the other activities awaiting you in Kawasan Falls.

1 Minute Thrill

The entire zipline takes every person from one hill to another in the span of 1 minute – that’s 60 seconds of pure thrill, adventure, and a lot of shouting! If you’re not too busy screaming at the top of your lungs for a whole minute, then you get to enjoy the amazing views of mountains, forests, and tall trees covering the landscape. The zipline traverses the traditional trail that adventurers take to reach the jump-off point for canyoneering. It takes average hikers around 45 minutes to reach the jump-off point using the traditional path so it saves them a lot of time by turning 45 minutes into 1 minute just by zipping through the path.

If you think that canyoneering in Badian couldn’t get any more exciting, then the Badian Zipline will definitely prove you wrong.

Exact Location: Brgy. Sulsogan, Badian, Southern Cebu — approx. 4 hours away from Cebu City.

BY BUS: Find your way to the Librando Bus Terminal which is just across the Cebu CIty South Bus Terminal. Ride a bus that’s bound for Badian and inform the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Badian Zipline Adventure or in Brgy. Malabago. There will be a signage that says “This way to Brgy. Sulsogan” where you are dropped. Follow the sign and look for motorcycles for hire which could take you to Badian Zipline Adventure. If unsure about directions, ask the locals.
