Luto Na Sad Ta! Bite King Returns After 4 Months of Social Media Hiatus

“Nganu gipangita man ko sa mga tawo nga wa man koy giutangan diria!”

This was Bite King’s comeback line after months of being off the grid—and yes, he’s finally back in the kitchen.

The Bisaya chef-influencer known for his witty cooking videos and culinary takes took a break from social media to focus on something serious: preparing for the board exam. While fans speculated about his absence, Bite King was quietly swapping his spatula for pencils and study guides in Manila for four months.

Now back, he’s returning to his usual routine with a heartwarming Filipino classic; monggos. His version? A bowl made with mung beans and a mix of sayote, kalabasa, talong, okra, and pork. He also emphasized the importance of “ASIN” or salt to make sure that the dish will taste as good as it looks.

In true Bite King fashion, he didn’t miss the chance to share a few of the things he did for good luck before the exam, such as:

  • Breaking the pencil used during the test
  • Wearing red underwear (according to him, he actually did)
  • Visiting the Simala Church

Unfortunately, despite his efforts and four months of intense prep, Bite King shared that he didn’t pass the exam. He took a week to grieve the setback, but he’s not one to stay down for long.

Bahalag masipyat kag dako, basta sa tama lang nga butang. Wa may sayang badi basta mubangon lang ka paras imung kaugmaon.
(“It’s okay to make big mistakes, as long as they’re in the right pursuit. Nothing is wasted, bro, as long as you rise again for your future.”)

As someone who continues to aspire and inspire his fans, Bite King’s words resonate to anyone facing failure; reminding us that success isn’t always guaranteed, and it’s okay to pause, regroup, and return stronger.

Welcome back, Bite King!

Bread, cookies, and trauma healing; baking offers all three! There’s something therapeutic about kneading dough while listening to your “Hugot Spotify Playlist.” And the fact that you get to eat your emotions in the end is already a win-win! As a non-baker who attended a baking workshop (once), I can guarantee you that you’ll enjoy it, albeit stress a bit on designing with icing, even if you’re surrounded by kids with their moms and dads while you’re all alone. It’s worth it!

Always felt you were meant for the stage? Well, I did, and so that’s when the decision came to join a local workshop to live out this Broadway-bisaya fantasy! The best thing about having this passion and dream in this generation is the availability of options as the theater scene in Cebu keeps growing. And if you’re shy, then do it anyway! It’s better to be dramatic in a space where it’s actually encouraged, than to do so in the workplace or any other place where drama just won’t mesh well.

Bonus Tips for the Tiguwangs in Training

Di ta magdanghag kay edaran na ta, therefore, don’t forget to bring these along:

  • Water. Lots of it. Hydration is no joke.
  • Stretch first. Ayaw kompyansa. Your body isn’t 16 anymore.
  • Don’t be shy. Everyone’s too busy worrying about themselves.
  • Document it. Who says your summer can’t go viral?
Photo from Pexels

Tiguwang na ka? So what? That just means you now have the budget, the time, and the zero-care attitude to try all the things you were once too shy (or too broke) to do. Whether you’re doing a pirrouette, belting a tune, brewing coffee, or skating—just go for it. After all, learning never gets old.

Annabelle Is On Tour, And Netizens Are Saying “Hell NO!”

Going on a world tour like Taylor Swift…

The movie version of Annabelle

It may sound like a joke but it’s not; THE Anabelle doll is really on tour as of this writing, for the Warrens Occult Museum decided why not bring their haunted goods to EVERYWHERE!

The infamous Annabelle doll, said to be one of the most haunted objects in the world, is going from one place to another—and it’s giving horror fans the chilling chance of a lifetime.

For decades, the Annabelle doll has been one of the most terrifying paranormal items that garnered fans around the globe. The adorable Raggedy Anne doll has been locked away in a glass case at the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, and is reportedly too dangerous to be handled casually. But in an unexpected twist, the cursed artifact is now hitting the road, at the back of a van with a bag of chips placed just beside her.

From Connecticut to the Everywhere

Ryan Daniel Buell, an American paranormal investigator, is one of the people traveling with the Annabelle doll on her tour, and their first stop is the West Virginia State Penitentiary, one of the most haunted prisons in the United States to this day. According to his TikTok posts, Ryan confirmed that they experienced paranormal activity at the prison, but only after the doll was removed; imagine the eerie silence that followed.

As they headed to downtown New Orleans, Louisiana, for their next stop, they brought a priest along to perform a binding prayer, especially since New Orleans is known for its deep-rooted supernatural lore and rampant voodoo practices. On Annabelle’s last night in the French Quarter, a voodoo priestess sent her off with a chilling spiritual declaration: “GO TO HELL, ANNABELLE!” while shaking a tambourine and holding holy water.

Annabelle’s next stop? San Antonio, Texas; once home to cowboys at dawn and now a hotspot for UFO sightings.

Netizens Say “Hell NO!”

Of course, there are skeptics, but even more people online are saying “no” to Annabelle’s World Tour. Some nonbelievers in the paranormal have pointed out that it may not be a good idea to take the doll on the road, considering the Warrens originally intended to keep her isolated to prevent potential spiritual attachments.

How about you, Sugboanons? Would you want Annabelle to visit the Philippines —or maybe even Cebu — someday?

Mayor Nestor: The Engineer Who’s Rebuilding Cebu

From being a councilor to becoming the mayor…

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

From the halls of the City Council to the highest office in Cebu City, Engr. Nestor Dionson Archival has come a long way — not just in politics, but in purpose. Known for his consistent service as a Cebu City councilor since 2007, Engr. Archival has planted a reputation not just as a public servant, but as a visionary with a blueprint for a better Cebu.

Now that he has taken the role of mayor of the Queen City of the South, the question on everyone’s mind is simple: Who is Nestor, really? And what has he done to earn the trust of the Sugboanons?

Kinsa si Nestor?

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

While many see him as a familiar face in local governance, Engr. Archival is more than just a politician. He is a licensed engineer, a dedicated entrepreneur, and the owner of multiple businesses in the city such as Toniq Juice Bar. His technical background and business experience help shape his practical approach to governance, one that focuses on long-term solutions rather than quick fixes.

Photo from Nestor Archival’s Official Facebook Page

Throughout his role as a councilor, he became known for leading environmental initiatives, pushing for waste management reforms, and advocating for sustainable urban planning; policies that often go unnoticed in the middle of political noise.

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

Blueprint for Cebu: The Archival Approach

It’s a phrase we often hear during election season: “A better Cebu ahead.” But for Engr. Archival, it isn’t just a slogan. It’s a vision founded in sustainability, innovation, and care for the community.

Photo from Nestor Archival’s Official Facebook Page

Unlike the usual political promises, Archival’s plans involve sustainable infrastructure, accessible healthcare, and environment-first city planning. With the eyes of an engineer and the heart of a public servant, he brings a problem-solving mindset to the city’s most challenging issues, from urban flooding and waste disposal to traffic management and public health services.

But What Does an Engineer Know?

It’s a good question—what does an engineer really know about leading a city?

For Engr. Archival, the answer is clear: precision, discipline, and building solutions from the ground up. Engineers are trained to find the most efficient and sustainable ways to solve problems. In politics, this connects to designing systems that don’t just work for the present, but are built to last for generations.

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

His engineering mindset gives him a unique perspective on Cebu’s challenges. He focuses on identifying root causes, optimizing resources, and leading policies that are not only scalable but truly sustainable for Sugboanons.

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

For example, he emphasized that to increase city revenue, there must be more efficient tax collection and financial management. To ease traffic congestion, Cebu needs additional parking spaces alongside the completion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. And when it comes to waste management, a problem costing the city millions of pesos, he believes proper delegation and implementation at the barangay level must be a top priority.

By the Sugboanon, for the Sugboanons

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

Leadership is not just about ideas, but about execution. Over the years, Archival has consistently walked the talk, especially on issues many politicians shy away from — like solid waste management, renewable energy, and disaster resilience.

Photo from Nestor Archival Official Facebook Page

So, when someone asks you, “Kinsa diay ang bag-ong Mayor?,” you can simply answer, “Our new mayor is the engineer of sustainable change and a leader who builds not just projects, but trust.” With one well-laid plan at a time, maybe Engr./ Mayor Archival is exactly what our city needs to move forward.

Meow, Aww, Moo—Chinese AI Might Soon Translate Them Into Words

If our cats could talk… oooh, the tales they would tell — with their tails held high!

Photo from Pexels

Baidu Inc., a Chinese multinational technology company, is currently in the process of filing a patent for an artificial intelligence (AI) system that translates animal sounds into words.

Photo from Pexels

Decoding the Meows, Awws, and Moos

Photo from Lenie

For years, scientists have been working to decode animal sounds — particularly those of endangered species — as part of conservation efforts. Two universities in Australia, the University of Warwick and the University of New South Wales, conducted research to analyze animal sounds. They discovered that Asian elephants produce pulsed sounds, but what those sounds actually mean is what Baidu Inc. aims to uncover.

Imagine waking up in the morning and knowing exactly what your dog is barking about, or being able to interpret the bubbling sounds your fish makes. It may sound silly now, but it’s further proof that AI is advancing — and rapidly.

Photo from Pexels

What Netizens Think

According to Baidu’s patent documents, the AI system could enable “deeper emotional communication and understanding between animals and humans, improving the accuracy and efficiency of cross-species communication.” However, netizens remain skeptical, as the reliability of AI is still being questioned — even more so, the capabilities of its users and how far its application might go.

Photo from Lenie

One lingering question: if approved, could animal statements be used for legal purposes?

What do you think, Sugboanons?

It’s Okay to Mess Up: Notes From a Sugbo Intern

Humana mi, kamu nasad…

Internship—it’s that final stretch before graduation, the last hurdle before the finish line. It’s where all the late nights, sleepless deadlines, and group project drama finally lead to something real: the workplace. For many of us in Cebu, this is our first taste of the real world, and it’s both exciting and terrifying.

When you’re an intern, you’re no longer just a student. You’re a learner, a teammate, sometimes even a coffee runner, and somehow, all of that teaches you more than any classroom ever could.

The Internship Journey

No one really tells you how different it feels to step out of school and into a company. One day you’re stressing over finals, and the next, you’re wearing office-appropriate attire and sitting in meetings with people who’ve been doing this for years.

Here in Cebu, internships are a chance not just to prove what you know, but to figure out what you don’t. You’ll make mistakes (plenty, actually) but you’ll also gain skills you didn’t realize you needed. And somewhere in between the confusion and coffee breaks, you grow.

Be Curious, Always

Before Day 1, it’s normal to feel nervous. “What will I be doing?” “Will I be good enough?” “Will I fit in?” All valid questions. But don’t let fear hold back your curiosity. Ask questions. Learn the why behind what you’re doing. You’re not expected to know everything yet, and that’s the point.

Learn the Culture, Not Just the Tasks

Every office has its own vibe. Some are chill, others more formal. Learn how people communicate, how they solve problems, how they celebrate wins. But don’t lose yourself trying to fit in. The goal is to grow, not disappear.

Being your authentic self while adapting to a professional environment, that’s how you stand out.

Failing Is Part of the Job

Let’s be real: you will mess up. And it’s okay.

You might send an email with the wrong name, forget to update a report, or be totally blank during a meeting. It’s not the end of the world. Every mistake is a lesson, and every lesson makes you stronger. The more you fail, the more you learn; just don’t let it stop you from trying again.

Take Charge of Your Own Growth

Don’t wait around to be told what to do. If you see something that could be improved, speak up. Offer help. Ask to try new things. When you show initiative, people remember. You’re not just there to complete hours; you’re there to evolve.

The People Make It Worthwhile

One of the best parts of the internship? The people. The co-interns who make lunch breaks feel like barkada hangouts. The mentors who see potential in you even when you’re unsure. The kuyas and ates who share tips they wish someone told them when they were starting out.

These people? They become part of your journey. And when the time comes to say goodbye, it’ll hit harder than you expect.

What do I wish I knew before I started?

I wish I had known how much I’d grow in just a few months. I wish I had known how hard it would be to leave the people who shaped me. And I wish I had known that sometimes, the best lessons come from the most uncomfortable moments.

But if I knew all of that from the start… where’s the fun in that?

Legal Repercussions in the Philippines

The Republic Act No. 8485, as amended by RA 10631—also known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998—requires pet owners to provide adequate food, shelter, and medical care. Neglecting your pets by leaving them alone without proper supervision may be considered animal cruelty and can result in legal penalties.

  • Arrange for a Pet Sitter or Boarding – Ensure your pet is cared for by a trusted individual or a reputable boarding facility.
  • Stock Up on Essentials – Provide enough food, medication, and supplies for the duration of your absence.
  • Secure Your Home – Make sure your home is safe and pet-friendly to prevent accidents.
  • Leave Clear Instructions – Provide detailed care instructions, emergency contacts, and your veterinarian’s information.

Some local ordinances may impose fines or other consequences for pet abandonment. Many cities enforce regulations to reduce stray animal populations and promote humane treatment.
