NO BUDGET, NO PROBLEM: MAKE A DIY MIRROR SELFIE!

Photo from Pexels

Can’t afford to rent a mirror selfie from any of the professional designers? Why not do it yourself? I’m sure you’ve got an eye for design, especially when it comes to personal touches. If you’re a skilled calligrapher, grab a whiteboard marker (make sure it’s erasable), and let your creativity flow. It could be a hashtag, an inspiring quote, or whatever reflects your mood. If calligraphy isn’t your style, why not showcase your artistic side? Draw flowers, emojis, or even your favorite characters to add a unique twist.

If you don’t like writing on your mirror because you’re afraid it might mess up the glass, or worse, you’re afraid the marker might be permanent, well there are other options. You can take inspiration from professional designers by taping either real or faux flowers around the edges of the mirror for a classy, aesthetic vibe. It’s an easy way to create a Facebook-worthy mirror selfie that could even set trends!

Photo from Pexels

If you’re not into the flower option, here’s our last suggestion. This might only cost a dime, but what do you think of stickers? Whatever stickers you have in your home, place around the mirror for a playful, personalized look. With a little creativity, your DIY mirror selfie could turn into the next big thing!

Do you like these suggestions? Then use them as a welcoming sign and a photo booth for your future events and skip the hefty price tag of renting a professional selfie mirror. It’s not about being cheap—it’s about being smart with your money.

#UncannyValley: Pinoys With Wax Figures at Madame Tussaud’s

0

“Creepy but a treat,” says Lea Salonga about her wax figure.

Photo from Madame Tussaud’s

Madame Tussaud’s is one of the top tourist attractions globally, but it all started in London where its founder, Anna Maria “Marie” Tussaud, lived. Today, there are more than 20 Madame Tussaud’s wax museums around the world, with locations in major cities such as New York, Sydney, and Hong Kong.

The latest addition to Madame Tussaud’s wax museum is a sculpture of our very own “Broadway Diva,” Lea Salonga. The star shared that seeing a wax duplicate of herself is a bit creepy, yet a treat at the same time.

Of course, aside from Lea, there are many other Filipino celebrities who received the Taussaud treatment, and here are their wax figures:

Pia Wurtzbach

Photo from Madame Tussaud’s

Unveiled last March 2019, Pia’s wax figure is hailed as the “First Filipino Wax Figure” and “First Beauty Queen” made by the artists of Madame Tussaud’s. Her wax figure is wearing a replica of her iconic Swarovski-embellished gown by Michael Cinco, the same design she had during her coronation.

Manny Pacquiao

Photo from Madame Tussaud’s

Following Pia is our “Pambansang Kamao,” Manny Pacquiao who is named as the “First Make Filipino Wax Figure” at Madame Tussaud’s. The unveiling was done in November 2021 which featured Pacquiao’s signature boxing stance, complete with gloves on!

Catriona Gray

Photo from Madame Tussaud’s

Famed for her lava walk, Catriona Gray unveiled her wax figure last March 2022 in Cairns, Queensland. It even wore the same red lava dress she had on during her winning stride at the Miss Universe competition.

Upcoming: Anne Curtis

Photo from Madame Tussaud’s

Madame Tussaud’s announced an upcoming new addition to their wax figures last December 2023, and it was Anne Curtis’. Who knew that our very own “Multimedia Star” who continues to amaze us with her talent and humor would also get the Tussaud treatment, right? Anyway, we are excited for the unveiling especially in guessing what “Anne” expression will be captured by the artists.

Sugboanons, who do you think should be the next Filipino to have a wax figure at Madame Tussaud’s? Share your ideas in the comments below!

Here’s Why Our Declaration of Independence Is Being Auctioned at Php1.6M!

0

Would you sell your own birth certificate?

Photo owned by the Leon Gallery

Today, September 14, 2024, a copy of the Philippine Declaration of Independence, the literal handwritten duplicate of the “birth certificate” of our nation, is being auctioned at Leon Gallery for 1.6 million pesos. Although beneficial for the gallery, it raises the question as to whether the opt to auction is beneficial for our country’s history?

The Declaration of Independence is more than just a historical artifact; it is proof of the courage and what we aspired as a nation that fought to have our own freedom. For a country with a long history of colonization, the importance of this document is severely underrated.

You might wonder why such a significant piece of history would be put up for auction instead of being preserved in a museum for public viewing and education. And, since it’s a replica, why not make it available for the public through passing it on to different educational organizations instead of giving it to a bidder? After all, most people would consider their own birth certificate a rather cherished and personal document, signifying the beginning of life and having an identity. Similarly, one might argue that a nation’s declaration of independence should be treated equal to a person’s birth certificate and preserved for future generations to appreciate and learn from.

Photo owned by the Leon Gallery

However, the founder of Leon Gallery shared his own reasoning as to why they decided to bid off the document, and here’s why:

FOR CURIOSITY’S SAKE!

Photo from the Philippine Folklife Museum Foundation’s Official Website

The Leon Gallery do know how to market their items, and for good reason since they’ve been in the industry of artifact preservation for a long time. According to an interview, Jaime Ponce de Leon, the founder of the said gallery shared that by putting the copy of the Philippine Declaration of Independence into auction, they’d reach the curiosity and inquiry of the public more than keeping the document within their premises.

In addition, he stressed that doing the auction lets it be broadcasted to a wider audience and so it offers people a chance to know that the specific item existed. This then would lead to more and more people inquiring about the document alongside individuals in specialized studies to research all about it. The auction brings attention to the historical significance of the document, gaining public interest and discussion.

Photo owned by the Leon Gallery

But, on the other hand, what if the one who takes the bid decides to keep it for himself? Wouldn’t that be detrimental to the purpose of the public knowing about it? Or is the option to auction it out simply available because the item being auctioned is only a copy? With that in mind, does it make it less significant?

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will have a revamp on their operations as there will be a takeover of roles!

The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will be taking over operations of NAIA starting September 14, 2024 through its consortium, New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC). It is expected that there will be major reorganization of the NAIA’s terminals.

Photo from Canva
  • TERMINAL 1 : exclusively cater to Philippine Airlines (PAL) for international flights
  • TERMINAL 2 : will serve domestic flights for PAL & Cebu Pacific
  • TERMINAL 3:  will accommodate foreign airlines and international flights from Cebu Pac & AirAsia
  • TERMINAL 4: will be for AirAsia domestic flights.

NNIC General Manager Angelito Alvarez emphasized that the terminal reassignments will be phased in over three years to minimize disruptions.

“It will be a gradual process. That’s the best that we can do at this point in time,” he said, “NNIC will not disrupt current operations and will be business as usual.”
