Firefly Wins Best in Picture: MMFF Winners Revealed

The much-awaited Metro Manila Film Festival started off as a success after movie-goers flocked to the nearest cinema to watch the film lineups.

And now, the Metro Manila Film Festival’s (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal 2023 has concluded, and the winners have been revealed. 

Firefly, starring Euwenn Mikaell and Alessandra De Rossi, took home the “Best Picture” award and bested GomBurZa (2nd), Mallari (3rd), and When I Met You in Tokyo (4th). Euwenn Mikaell also won Best Child Performer.

Best Actor: Cedrick Juan (GomBurZa)

Best Actress: Vilma Santos (When I Met You in Tokyo)

Best Director: Pepe Diokno (GomBurZa)

Best Supporting Actress: Miles Ocampo (Family of Two)

Best Supporting Actor: JC Cantos (Mallari) 

Best Child Performer: Euwenn Mikaell (Firefly)

Best Screenplay: Angeli Atienza (Firefly)

Best Cinematography: Carlo Canlas Mendoza (GomBurZa)

Best Float: When I Met You In Tokyo

Marichu Veraperez Maceda Memorial Award: Mother Lily Yu Monteverde

Gender Sensitivity Award: Becky and Badette

Best Editing: Benjamin Tolentino for “(K)ampon”

Best Production Design: Ericson Navarro for “Gomburza”

Best Original Theme Song: “Finggah Lickin” from “Becky and Badette”

Best Visual Effects: Gaspar Mangarin for “Mallari”

Best Musical Score: Von de Guzman for “Mallari”

Best Sound: Melvin Q. Rivera and Louie Boy Bauson for “Gomburza”

FPJ Memorial Award for Excellence: “When I Met You In Tokyo”

Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award: “Gomburza”

Filipino Film is not dead, and the Metro Manila Film Festival entries are proof of that. Raw and natural Filipino talents were evident during the film festival and we couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations to all the winners.
