Hidilyn Diaz Loses Gold Crown, Places 4th in Asian Games

Filipina Weightlifting Champion Hidilyn Diaz fails to snag gold during the women’s 59kg division in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Hidilyn was up against North Korea’s Il-gyong and fell to the 4th spot with a 223kg total built on a 97kg snatch and 126kg clean and jerk.

Hidilyn had a hard time taking part in a heavier weighlifting class.

The second spot was taken over by China’s Luo Shifang, and Taipei’s Kuo Hsing Chun took the third spot. However, despite placing fourth, Diaz still smiled through it all. The 32-year-old weightlifter will be competing in the Paris Olympics next year.

Diaz said that she is pushing herself to the limit for the Paris Olympics. “I’m confident of winning gold in Paris, but I’ll need to lift 107kg and 135 kg to do that,” Hidilyn added.
