President Duterte to grace Sinulog 2020; possible signal shutdown on January 19

Since 2016, mobile signal shutdown for Sinulog has been a practice.

For the first time since then, there will be no mobile signal shutdown for Sinulog 2020. Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella says that keeping the signal would help everyone in staying connected.

That, at least, was the news that made the devotees ecstatic because meeting up with friends wouldn’t be that much of a hassle.

However, after confirming the visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for Sinulog 2020, mobile signal shutdown might just happen again.

Police Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, confirmed that President Duterte is indeed visiting Cebu. Though no exact date was given, he assured everyone: “Darating siya.” Hence, an order for a mobile signal shutdown in Metro Cebu may be possible.

Although the dilemma of meeting our friends will be felt, we all have to understand that prevention is better than cure. After all, more than reuniting with old acquaintances and meeting new friends, everyone’s safety should still be our utmost priority.

As ambassadors of goodwill, we would like to remind everyone to always be safe and may we always remember to keep our home, our city, clean and green.
