Hotels, resorts allowed to accept guests in areas under MGCQ

Say ‘hello’ to your next staycation and bid your ‘fake-cation’ a goodbye.

Hotel bookings will be re-opened for tourists in some areas. If the area is placed under modified general community quarantine, hotels will be allowed to re-open, said the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Administrative Order 2020-002 allows:

  • Hotels
  • Resorts
  • Motels
  • Homestays
  • And other accommodation facilities

to accept tourists and business travelers in their areas, given that they follow the 50% capacity.

Other hotel facilities will then be allowed to resume their operations too.

“Ancillary establishments within the premises, such as restaurants, cafés, bars, gyms, spas, and the like, shall be allowed to operate at 50 percent operational capacity only,” read the May 22 order signed by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

As of writing, hotels can only cater to guests with:

  • Prior bookings
  • Long-staying guests
  • Travelers in transit
  • Distressed or repatriated OFWs
  • Stranded passengers
  • Health workers
  • Government frontliners
  • Private employees billeted by their companies

The whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu Province — has been placed under GCQ. We hope to expect for Cebu to shift to MGCQ after June 15.
