On Sunday morning, Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella announced on his Facebook page that a dedicated bicycle lane will be “coming very soon in Cebu City”.
This came the day after Mayor Labella suspended the mandatory registration of bicycles and prohibition of their use in the city when the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) enforcers have been urging bikers to register their bicycles to the agency.
Further, requirement of driver’s license for drivers of public utility vehicles plying Cebu City streets are likewise suspended indefinitely.
The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) is directed to (i) implement the foregoing orders and (ii) immediately facilitate the unimpeded operation of all types of public utility vehicles in Cebu City with Special Permits issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).– Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella
Mayor Labella has not yet announced the target start date of construction and has yet to provide more details about the project.
