Spoiler Alert! Here’s Our Review on the Latest Disney Adaptation of “Snow White”

SPOILER: Reading beyond this line will definitely spoil you some scenes and plot points. Scroll at your own risk!

Snow White, a classic fairytale, is once again retold in a new perspective by Marc Webb, adding a modern twist to the 1937 animated film. Brought to life by Rachel Zegler, the princess now defies traditional roles, stepping away from the archetype of the damsel in distress. With an intriguing storyline and a soundtrack featuring new songs that quickly captured the public’s attention, this retelling invites everyone to explore more  depths into the world of fairytale with unexpected twists.

She’s still wishing…

An instant favorite, “Waiting on a Wish” was a hit as it tapped on the realization why Rachel was chosen to portray the titular character. Her voice was an absolute perfection for the character and she embodied Snow White with an even braver take.

A much-welcomed surprise was Gal Gadot’s number “All Is Fair,” an epic performance that truly matches the queen’s presence—evil, vile, and most of all, vain, perfect for the tyrannical queen. In this version, we are given a deeper look into her backstory, and the best part is that we see the queen being more than just a persona who’s evil due to her magic, but because of what she is willing to do to stay in power and remain the fairest one of all.

Jonathan, Oh Jonathan!

Not a prince, but definitely charming! Andrew Burnap gives the not-so love interest of Snow White so much depth that it’s hard to ever erase him from your mind. Makakilig! His chemistry with Rachel just makes your heart skip a beat wherein the song “Princess Problems” was such a fun scene to watch. Snow and Jonathan bantering through a song was something we did not expect, and did we mention he has a band of “thieves?” Yes, so, you can guess the adventure waiting for you at the cinema— a mixture of Robin Hood and the ever-handsome Flynn Rider!

Another very pleasing new addition is the miners’ powers. The dwarves aren’t just relegated to being comedic relief in this story; they are given more importance as the film heavily relies on Snow’s journey to regain herself, proving that she is still her father’s daughter.

Who Is The Fairest Of Them All?

The line “Who is the fairest of them all?” is given a new connotation. Fairest, as in not by beauty or by stereotypical surface-level glamour, but by who is just and upright. The mirror, in what we can perceive, is not only talking about one’s appearance but also about one’s character and heart.

The production was the cherry on top with costumes that truly bring you to a different world and help you visualize and see magic. Sandy Powell delivers yet another beautiful work of art that captures the essence of Snow White, the Evil Queen, and the other characters. As Gen Z says, “It gave what it needed to give” because of the delightfully intricate sets that grab your attention.

After much anticipation, Snow White not only lives up to the expectations set for the film but goes beyond what is expected of it. It deals not only with what goes on in the vain mind of the queen and how it affects the princess, but also tackles what her vanity and greed do to those around her. It is an adventure worth venturing into—whether you’re a kid or a lover of magic and fairytales.

Fans of the cult classic comedy White Chicks have been buzzing with excitement as Marlon Wayans finally addressed the long-standing rumors about a sequel.

After over two decades of speculation, the possibility of White Chicks 2 seems closer than ever–though nothing is officially set in stone just yet.

During the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, where The Wayans Family was inducted into the Hall of Fame, Marlon Wayans dropped the bombshell that fans had been waiting for.

Speaking with Good Morning America, he stated: “I think it’s time. Let’s get Scary Movie 6 done, and then we’re gonna go bring out White Chicks 2.”

His statement set the internet ablaze, with fans celebrating what seemed to be an official confirmation. 

However, Marlon later walked back the claim in an Instagram post, clarifying that White Chicks 2 is not yet in active development–though he didn’t rule it out for the future.

Will White Chicks 2 Happen?

While an official green light from Sony has yet to happen, all signs point to a sequel being a strong possibility. The original White Chicks, released in 2004, wasn’t a critical darling but became a box office success, raking in over $113 million worldwide.

Over the years, it has cemented its place as a beloved cult comedy, largely due to its over-the-top humor, quotable moments, and the unforgettable performances of Marlon and Shawn Wayans as undercover FBI agents masquerading as white socialites.

Wayans has been vocal about his willingness to return for White Chicks 2, but he has one major condition: advancements in special effects. 

In a past interview, he joked that the grueling hours spent in the makeup chair were a deterrent, saying he’d only reprise his role if the transformation could be done digitally. With today’s CGI technology, this might just be a feasible option.

The Central Cebu Protected Landscape: Conservation and Sustainability Efforts

Cebu, known for its stunning beaches and vibrant city life, is also home to an ecological treasure–the Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL).

Encompassing several critical forest reserves and national parks, this area plays a crucial role in sustaining biodiversity and securing water resources for the island. 

Established through Republic Act No. 9486 (2007), the CCPL is a testament to Cebu’s commitment to environmental conservation.

A Unified Conservation Effort

Before the passage of the CCPL Act, the region’s protected areas were fragmented into the Buhisan Watershed Forest Reserve, Mananga Watershed Forest Reserve, Sudlon National Park, Central Cebu National Park, and Kotkot-Lusaran Watershed Forest Reserve.

These areas span multiple cities and municipalities, including Cebu City, Talisay, Toledo, Danao, Minglanilla, Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, and Balamban. The law brought these separate entities together, ensuring a unified approach to their protection and sustainable management.

Why CCPL Matters

CCPL’s significance extends beyond its picturesque landscapes. It serves as:

  • A Major Watershed – The protected landscape is a primary source of water for Metro Cebu, making its conservation vital for water security.
  • A Biodiversity Haven – Home to numerous species of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to Cebu, the area protects irreplaceable ecological assets.
  • A Natural Barrier – The forests within CCPL help prevent flooding, soil erosion, and climate-related disasters by stabilizing the terrain.

Management and Protection Measures

The law established the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), which has sole jurisdiction over the CCPL to ensure biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, and sustainable development. 

The Act also mandates the presence of a Protected Area Superintendent (PASu), responsible for day-to-day management and law enforcement within the landscape.

To maintain the integrity of CCPL, the law strictly prohibits the exploitation of nonrenewable resources within its boundaries.

However, renewable energy projects may be allowed under stringent environmental assessments, ensuring minimal ecological impact. 

Additionally, the Act halts the issuance of new resource exploitation permits until a comprehensive management plan is in place.

To support conservation efforts, the law established the Central Cebu Protected Landscape Fund, which collects revenues from eco-tourism activities and other authorized endeavors.  Strict penalties are imposed for violations, ensuring compliance with conservation laws and deterring illegal activities.
