Did You Know: This Disney Celebrity Was Born Via In Vitro Fertilization?

A child of the 21st century and one of the rising stars in Hollywood!

If you’ve watched Disney’s Z-O-M-B-I-E-S movies and franchise, you should be familiar with the tall, princely charm of Milo Manheim.

Born on March 6, 2001, Milo Jacob Manheim, aka “Milo Manheim,” stole our hearts as Zed in Disney’s Z-O-M-B-I-E-S and as Joseph in “The Journey to Bethlehem.” With a tall, princely charm and acting chops that shine bright, Milo is the son of the fabulous actress, Camryn Manheim, and model, Jeffrey Brezovar. But here’s a fun fact: Milo’s journey into this world wasn’t your typical story–it involved a little thing called In Vitro Fertilization or IVF.

What Is In Vitro Fertilization?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a type of fertility treatment and is currently considered as one of the most effective processes to help in conceiving a child. As compared to the natural conception wherein a sperm and an egg will be joining inside a woman’s body, IVF involves the process of combining both in a petri or laboratory dish.

The price of IVF in the Philippines can go up to ₱250,000.00 and higher, depending on the clinic. And just like conceiving naturally, you can also choose who you prefer to have as a sperm donor, which is what happened to Milo Manheim; his mother, Camryn, had an agreement with his biological father, Jeffrey, for the sperm donation, since he was her best friend.

IVF has a success rate of up to 40% for women aged below 35 years old, but beyond that, the percentage lowers to 26% and up to 8% for aged 40 and up. Some of the famous Filipino celebrities who underwent IVF include Dr. Vicki Belo, Korina Sanchez, and Alice Dixson. While, in Hollywood, we have the Kardashians, Celine Dion, and Michelle Obama.

Are IVF Babies Normal?

Yes. Babies born through IVF grow and have both the physical and mental capacities similar to those conceived naturally. I mean, look at Milo Manheim, for example. He is now a big star in Disney and has since been in several films including Prom Pact, School Spirits, and even starred in Thanksgiving alongside Patrick Dempsey.

In summary, Milo Manheim’s journey into this world through IVF showcases the wonders of modern science and the possibilities it opens up for families. IVF is not just a medical procedure; it’s a path to hope and fulfillment for aspiring parents. Despite the initial challenges, IVF babies like Milo grow up to lead normal, healthy lives and make significant contributions to society.

Top Barber Shops In Cebu, According to Men

A good haircut is like makeup, it can either change a face for the better or make it look worse!

Ever went to a barber shop to get your hair all pampered and ready for a night out, yet, you ended up being demotivated from going outside because the resulting cut just didn’t look like how you imagined it? Well, fret no more because we’ve got a list of trusted shops that you can go to for that perfect look!

But first, let’s check out what criteria we considered for determining the must-try barber shops in Cebu:

  • Budget-Friendly: Not necessarily a 50-peso haircut but a price that’s between Php 150.00 to Php 200.00 is reasonable especially for students and newly employed folks.
  • Great Product Qualities: Most barber shops offer hair wax, shampoos, and conditioners for their clients, which is great; but, the products must be of high-quality.
  • Masculine Ambiance: When the price of a haircut is high, it is possible that what you’re paying for is not just the service but also the ambiance of the location. A relaxing place makes a great and enjoyable experience, which adds to the positive feedback that the barber shop will receive from their clients.
  • Knowledgeable & Skilled Barbers: Imagine going to a barber shop and then going out with haircuts similar to the other clients on the chair; that would be a nightmare similar to seeing two other people wearing the same dress as yours. It is important for barber shops to hire skilled and knowledgeable staff who can curate and personalize a cut to benefit the client’s features. For instance, if a client has a square face, then overly thick bangs should not be suggested, while round faced dudes must steer clear from buzz cuts, unless required to do so.
  • Consistent: Haircuts are done every 4 to 6 weeks for men and if you’re a fan of a specific style, then you should look for a barber shop who can help you keep and manage the style.

Must-Try Italian Foods & Where to Find Them In Cebu

Get ready to say delizioso when you try these top Italian foods that you can find in the Queen City of the South!

Italy is a place where architecture and romance meet. But, it could take up to Php 60,000.00 for a flight going there, so, instead of paying for a plane ticket, why not discover the different areas in Cebu where you can experience a glimpse of Italy?

We’ve rounded up the best Italian foods that you can find, not only in Italy, but also here in Cebu:

1. Pizza

Pizza is a staple in Italian cuisines. Served as a snack, it is the perfect combination of creamy cheese, sweet and tangy tomato sauce, tasty meat, and crispy wood-fired dough.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN PIZZA:

There are several restaurants that serve pizza but the top-rated places to buy a slice are at Pizzeria Michelangelo, Acqua at Shangri-La Mactan, Casanta Secret Garden, Giovanni’s Pizza, and Tavolata. According to pizza aficionados, their pizzas tasted authentic and are worth trying!

2. Pasta

Similar to how us Filipinos love our white rice as to how Italians love their pasta to the point where they have over 350 pasta shapes to choose from! However, among all the pastas, the spaghetti remained to be the supreme shape.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN PASTA:

You can try out Italian pasta dishes in Anzani, La Buona Forchetta Da Paolo, and Antica Osteria. And the best part is that they serve different flavors and types of pasta so you’ll get to have the whole Italian experience: from simple spaghetti aglio e olio to the tasty pasta alla gricia!

3. Arancini

Also known as Italian rice balls, this bite-sized dish is stuffed with delicious mozzarella cheese and coated in breadcrumbs, which is then deep fried to make a perfect crunchy exterior and a soft stringy interior. Arancini is a staple in Sicily, Italy and can be made into different shapes such as a triangular or conical shape to symbolize a volcano.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN ARANCINI:

Whether you want the classic arancini or one that’s filled with savory meat, Pizzeria Michelangelo, Napolitani Pizzeria Cebu, Italianni’s Restaurant, and Acqua are some of the must-try restaurants that you should go for a bite of Italian goodness.

4. Focaccia

Hailing from the province of Liguria, Italy, the focaccia is a type of flat bread with light indentations for holding oil. It has a nutty and salty taste that’s best paired with olive oil for add-on flavor.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN FOCACCIA:

Brique Modern Kitchen, Giuseppe Pizzeria & Sicilian Roast, and La Buona Italian Restaurant are some of the places serving focaccia, either as an appetizer or as part of a meal.

5. Lasagna

Layers of thin pasta sheets with meat, sauce, and cheese makes the perfect combination for a tasty lasagna. It is one of the oldest types of pasta that Italians have been serving for centuries.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN LASAGNA:

In Cebu, you can find lasagna dishes almost everywhere! From Pizza Hut, Greenwich, to Sbarro’s. But, if you want luxury-style lasagna, then head to Italian restaurants such as the La Gondola and Tavolata for a leveled-up taste.

6. Ossobuco

Made out of veal shank with the bone marrow, stewed in wine with a mix of vegetables and the dash of seasonings – ossobuco is truly a dish great for a heartwarming dinner party.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN OSSOBUCO:

Some of the restaurants offering Ossobuco as part of their menu are Tavolata, La Tegola Busay, Trattoria da Gianni, and II Primo Italian Steakhouse.

7. Gelato

In Italy, they don’t say “Ice Cream,” instead they use the word “Gelato.” However, there is a difference between the two since a gelato will have lower milk fat as compared to ice cream. Therefore, gelato is a healthier alternative to ice cream.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ITALIAN GELATO:

When talking about gelato, the go-to for Sugboanons is usually Gelatissimo since they have branches anywhere in Cebu. But, you can also try other sellers such as Giardino Gelato, La Vie Parisienne, La Dolce Ice Cream Shop, Moonsky & Sunny, and Kakka Dairy Bar.

So, Sugboanons, which among the Italian foods above is your favorite? Share to us in the comments below!

How To Survive Graveyard Shift

Salute to all call center agents, virtual assistants, guards, and all employees working on graveyard shifts!

Graveyard shifts can be challenging. You really have to compose yourself to survive. Whether you are a seasoned night owl or new to the nocturnal life, thriving during those late-night hours is not a piece of cake.

Reflecting on my college days, I recall a classmate who was the epitome of perseverance. Despite our demanding class schedule, he juggled his academic responsibilities with a graveyard shift job, relying on it as his primary means of financing his education. Fast forward three years later, as I took the role of a customer service representative, I couldn’t help but be in awe at his ability to maintain a fresh demeanor while excelling in both work and academics.

Recently reconnecting with him after years apart, I asked the secret behind his seemingly boundless energy and unwavering commitment; and here’s some of his tips:

Adjust your body clock.

Scientifically, our bodies are naturally programmed to be awake and active during the day and asleep at night. To be able to adjust your natural body clock, expose yourself to bright light during your waking hours and minimize light exposure when it is bedtime.

Balance your diet.

Food serves as our fuel. Having a balanced diet is important for sustaining energy levels throughout your shift. Eat nutritious meals and snacks that provide a steady release of energy to fuel your body. Avoid heavy, greasy foods that can leave you feeling sluggish.

Stay hydrated.

Water plays an essential role in our bodies. The lack of drinking water can exacerbate feelings of fatigue, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout your shift. Limit your caffeine and sugary beverages intake as these can be factors affecting your sleep quality. Or, if you can’t avoid caffeine all together, then make sure to drink it at the start of your shift and avoid it when you’re taking your second break especially since break time’s usually near the end of your shift.

Prioritize sleeping after your shift.

Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule is crucial when working the graveyard shift. Aim to have 7-9 hours of sleep per day, even if it means being asleep during the day. To help you prioritize sleep, build a cozy environment and invest in blackout curtains. But, if you’re living with folks who sleep during normal hours, then you will have to also adapt and you can do that by using a sleep mask to cover your eyes and blackout your sight.

Seek for moral support.

As mentioned, graveyard shift is challenging to handle. It is natural for us to struggle in coping up with its demands, as I did for the first 2 years working as an agent. Do not hesitate to seek support from the people around you such as your co-workers. If you need stronger support, approach healthcare professionals. It is important for you to prioritize your well-being.

Keep in mind that your mental health should be your top priority. The tips mentioned above empower your well-being. With the right mindset and strategies in place, you can make the most of your nocturnal adventures and embrace the unique opportunities that working through the night has to offer. And if you think we missed something important, then share it with us in the comments section below to let your fellow night-owl Sugboanons know!

Why Do Cats…Purr, Knead, Meow, And Many More Questions Answered!

They say that dogs are man’s best friends while cats are men’s masters.

They say that dogs are loyal companions, but cats are often seen as the true rulers of the household. With over 600 million cats worldwide, each one boasting its own distinct personality and quirks, it’s no wonder they’ve captivated humans since Ancient Egyptian times.

But, despite our long history with our feline furbabies, their behaviors still leave us scratching our head–from their soft meows to their soothing purrs. So, let’s discover the mysteries behind some of our favorite feline behaviors!

Why Do Cats Purr?

Well, it turns out they’re not just showing affection–they’re seeking relief. Whether it’s from bonding with their humans or easing their own pain, that soothing rumble is their way of finding comfort in the chaos of the world.

Why Do Cats Eat Their Kittens?

As macabre as it may seem, in the wild, it’s a matter of survival. From identifying stillborn offspring to conserving resources for the rest of the litter, it’s all about ensuring the strongest genes gets a chance to survive.

Why Do Cats Hate Water?

It’s not just about keeping their fur pristine–though that’s certainly part of it. Water weighs them down, triggering a primal fear response that sends them scrambling for dry land faster than you can say “bath time.” So, unless you’re prepared to face the wrath of a soggy kitty, it’s best to keep those water adventures to a minimum.

Why Do Cats Sleep A Lot?

Obviously, it’s not just because they’re lazy–though they certainly have a knack for lounging around. Cats clock in an impressive 15 hours of sleep each day, which serves several purposes such as to regulate their body temperature and conserve energy for their nocturnal hunting adventures.

Why Do Cats Mumble When They Fight?

It’s all about asserting dominance. When cats engage in combat, those low, rumbling meows are their way of throwing down and letting their opponent know who’s boss. It’s a bit like a dog’s growl or a lion’s roar–a warning shot before the claws come out.

Why Do Cats Meow?

Contrary to popular belief, cats don’t just meow at anyone who will listen. In fact, they reserve this vocalization exclusively for their human companions. But why? Well, it’s all thanks to evolution. Over years of living with humans, cats have adapted their meows to mimic the cries of infants, tugging at our heartstrings and ensuring they get the attention (and treats) they desire.

Why Do Cats Love Boxes?

Cats have a natural instinct to seek out small, confined spaces for safety and security. In the wild, they would hide away in caves or dense plants to avoid predators and sneak up on prey. Plus, the texture of cardboard boxes provides an irresistible scratching surface for their claws, and the scent of cardboard can be oddly satisfying to their senses.

Why Do Cats Knead?

You may have noticed your cat pushing and pulling their paws against a soft surface, like your lap or a cozy blanket. This behavior, known as kneading, serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it’s a throwback to kittenhood, when they would knead their mother’s belly to stimulate milk flow and promote bonding. So, when your cat kneads you, it’s a sign of affection and comfort, reminiscent of those early days with mom. Secondly, cats have scent glands in their paw pads, so kneading also helps them mark their territory and claim you as their own human. It’s a sweet gesture that shows they feel safe and secure in your presence.

Why Do Cats Knock Things Over?

From vases to glasses to your carefully arranged knick-knacks, nothing seems safe from their mischievous paws. While it may seem like they’re just being naughty, there’s often a method to their madness. Cats are naturally curious creatures, and knocking things over is their way of exploring their environment and satisfying their innate hunting instincts. Plus, it’s a surefire way to grab your attention—whether they’re craving playtime or simply looking to shake up their routine.

Any more tactics that you have observed your feline furbaby did that you caught on cam? Share it to us in the comments below!
