The Road to Becoming an Idol
In October 2019, Aiah became a trainee at Star Hunt Academy. From there, she further developed and enhanced her dancing skills. Since then, sheās been performing under the ABS-CBN management and was even fortunate enough to perform for the Manila Southeast Asian Games 2019.

Every donation can help save up to three lives, making your contribution incredibly valuable. In Cebu, like many other places, the demand for blood is constant and urgent. By donating blood, youāre helping to ensure that blood is available when itās needed most.

How to Prepare for a Blood Donation
Stay Hydrated – Drinking plenty of fluids before donating blood is important. Hydration helps maintain your blood volume and makes it easier for the staff to find your veins.
Eat a Healthy Meal – Ensure you have a nutritious meal before donating. Foods rich in iron, like spinach, red meat, and beans, are beneficial. Avoid fatty foods, which can affect your blood test results.
Have a Good Sleep – Resting the night before your donation helps keep your blood pressure stable and ensures youāre in the best condition to donate blood.
Health Check – Certain conditions or medications might temporarily disqualify you from donating, so it is essential to check your eligibility beforehand. Consult with a healthcare provider if youāre unsure.
Bring Identification – You will need to bring a valid ID to the donation center. This could be a driverās license, school ID, or any government-issued ID.
Avoid Alcohol – Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before donating blood as it can dehydrate you and affect the quality of your blood.
Relax – Stay relaxed and calm during the extraction of blood. It helps make the process smoother for you and the staff.

āWe will begin our cooperation starting with tourism, including the establishment of direct flights; but in the long term, we need to expand the cooperation through the exchange of our younger generations,ā said Oh as he added, āWe believe that this will further revitalize the tourism exchange between our regions and also the cultural exchanges as another area for potential cooperation.ā
The idea of the plan came after Gov. Garcia learned that Gov. Oh had to take multiple flights from Jeju Island in order to reach Cebu. She reassured the governor that she will give a proposal to the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority, considering that sheās one of its Board of Directors, for possible direct Cebu to Jeju flights and back.

My father was one of the few typewriter technicians in Cebu. He loved his job; you could feel his passion for it every single day as he carried each broken typewriter to our home and brought it back to his loyal customers once it was fixed. His dedication was inspiring, and his commitment to his craft was something to look up to.
We lived in the heart of Cebu, but that did not stop him from traveling to far places to attend to customers’ concerns. He reached the farthest points of the north and south via commute, sometimes sustaining himself with just juice and bread for a day of travel. Despite his long and exhausting travels, he never failed to bring home bags of groceries for us.
Photo of my father carrying his grandchild before cancer took him
I was in my late teens when I realized that Papa always had something to bring home. He would arrive sweaty wearing his ball cap, checked polo, belted stiff slacks, and shiny black leather shoes. On his arms were bags from Carbon Market filled with different ingredients to cook humba, inun-unan, kinilaw, and many more. Every meal was a feast when Papa arrived, little did I know that he ate the total opposite when he traveled.
As I look back, I wish I had told him a few things before he passed away:
āI see your sacrifice, Paā
Papa, I now understand the lengths you went to for our family. Your long days and thrifty meals on the road were acts of love and sacrifice. Thank you for always putting us first.
āI strive to have the same passion as yours, Paā
I grew up watching you work with such dedication and enthusiasm; you even let me help you sometimes. Now that Iām an adult, it taught me the value of hard work and passion. You showed me that true fulfillment comes from doing what you love and doing it well.
āI miss our meals together, Paā
The effort you put into bringing home fresh ingredients and cooking delicious meals made every dinner feel like a celebration. Those meals weren’t just food; they were expressions of your love for us. And guess what, I still love eating chorizo for breakfast because thatās how it was back then with you. Now, Mama does the cooking and sometimes when we eat, we talk about you.
āI wanna be as strong as you, Papaā
Your ability to face long journeys and tough days without complaint was a testament to your strength and resilience. You were our rock, and Mamaās rock, too. You were stern, but it was for our good in the end; if only I knew.
āI miss you everyday, Pa, every single day and I donāt tell anyone about itā
Your absence leaves this space that can never be filled. I miss your presence, your strong wisdom, your traditional thoughts, and your love. Thinking of you can trigger tears, be it happy or sad memories. And, I know that Mama still cries for you, too. Youāve been together for more than 30 years, and you loved her fully; you loved us fully. I just wish I can still see you, even in my dreams.

This Father’s Day, I honor my father and all fathers who went through life thinking that their love and sacrifices were unseen. To the dads who worked tirelessly, who traveled long distances, and who made countless sacrifices, know that YOU ARE SEEN.
To all fathers, past and present, thank you for your endless support, for your silent sacrifices, and for your unending love. We might have shown our appreciation in weird, childish ways, but every action, every smile, and every moment was our way of saying we love you. Thank you for everything. We love you more than words can express. Happy Father’s Day!
āWe deserve to experience love fully, equally, without shame, and without compromise.ā – Elliot Page
Photo from Christian & Vova
Once upon a time, a Filipino nurse and an international model met when fate decided that they should; and they did!
Christian and Vova, a couple living together in the US shared to us how their life had been, their relationship, and their career goals will be in the next years.
On Building The Filipino Dream
A striving Filipino nurse, Christian kept on pushing for his dreams to have a better, more independent, and stable life. At the age of 27, he was able to buy his own house and car, and sustain his life in the United States, when asked about it, he responded humbly, āIt was just a blessing in disguise.ā
Photo from Christian & Vova
Christian bought his first home at the time of the pandemic, when the supply for housing projects are high yet the demand for it was low because of the dip in employment. Still, the price can be a bit hefty for anyone planning to purchase a house and car, so we asked Christian and his partner, Vova replied, āWork a lot. He works a lot!ā in which Christian agreed, āYeah, I used to work a lot. Like 16-hour shifts!ā
Wait for your own time. Life is not a race, life is about the quality of it.
Christian
Because of his achievement, his sister and many others want to know his secret and how they can also meet that goal, āI don’t want to imply the age bracket between this age and that nga you have to achieve it, because I believe man gud that we have our own timeline. Maybe my time was just early, and yours will be later, and itās okay. Much better pa sa akoa. I keep on telling my sister, sheās like āKuya, Iām already this and that nga age, and youāre already this!ā So, Iāll tell her āDay, we have different timelines, yours mas nindot pa sa akoa, who knows.ā
On Taking Risks
Vova is an international model and in the past 5 years, heās been traveling everywhere for his career. But, everything changed when he finally decided to be with his family in the US, āAfter a long time of not seeing them, I just wanted to be with them.ā
The move made Vova question his decisions as it affected his career wherein he had to pause the contracts he signed. āSo, I decided to break from my future contracts and fly to the US and make an instant move; not telling anyone. I had a time gap and everything crumbled; like my plan ahead. I had no other choice but to just stay here because of my choices; these choices made me ruin the bridges.ā
And just like Christian, Vova didnāt know at that time that his residence in the US would be the start of, not just his career, but also a new life ahead; a life filled with love and support.
The Comeback Of Christian & Vova
Photo from Christian & Vova
āAre you planning to come to the Philippines?ā we asked and they replied with a resounding yes!
Weāll have our wedding in the Philippines, next year in Siargao.
Christian
āHe proposed to me last December. So, hopefully the wedding will be in January. Maybe a week or two,ā Christian answered and he even added why they chose the place for their matrimony āI fell in love with Siargao!ā
The two seemed to have their life planned, and they even joked that life in the US needs to be planned as everything has to be plotted, due to their busy schedules. āI have many plans but I donāt foresee the next 5 years, just for the next yearā¦ā
I can see that we are getting married and settling together
Christian
ā¦and Iām also thinking about going back to modeling since Iām already knowledgeable about the tricks of it. I now know it better and I can start traveling again. But, Iām also considering taking college and changing occupations,ā shared Vova.
On the one hand, Christian aims to also pursue further into his education and take a masters degree. āWeāre pretty much career oriented, for now.ā
How to Be A Model, According to Vova
Photo from Christian & Vova
Christian showed his enthusiasm and excitement for Vovaās career comeback especially since Vova planned to be a US-based model instead of staying in different countries for his shoots. So, we asked Vova what an aspiring model can do to establish a career, and hereās the ultimate checklist:
Go to the gym.
Straighten your posture.
Eat your diet.
Build your personality
Follow other models on Instagram and do what they are doing.
āEventually everything will start working for you. You will start building your personality for that, you can start finding photographers or they will find you. Theyāll schedule you for shoots. It really starts there, from yourself. Just a systematic approach on becoming a model. Just take care of yourself,ā said Vova.

In The Beginning, There Was A Dating App & Pushy Friends
Christian and Vovaās relationship couldnāt have happened if not for their pushy friends who kept suggesting they use a dating app.
When Vova arrived in the US, his friend told him to just try downloading Bumble and swipe; so, he did! He swiped left and right til he matched with over dozens of other folks. āI was swiping right, and Christian was there. We had a match. I donāt know, probably he liked me too. And we started texting.ā
On the other side of the world, as Christian was still hopping on a flight from Cebu, he downloaded the app too, because his friend told him so. When he arrived at the US, he had a match: Vova! āI thought he was a poser. He was too gwapo. Too good to be true. I didn’t message him, I just reacted to one of his photos. āSo cuteā, and then we matched and we started to have a conversation. And now weāre here.ā
Aside from it being a play on fate, Vova highly recommended to just swipe right to everyone. āMy friend advised me to just stop complaining, because I was matching with no one, and to just swipe all to the right.ā
Dating App Tip: Always swipe to the right and send a text āHeyā and see who texts you back, and see if thereās a connection.
Vova
āItās hard to decide if you like them personally or not, based on the photo. I had matches with guys and girls, but I donāt know how out of 100, itās Christian and he asked me weird questions,ā said Vova as he shared the weird texts of Christian:
āWhat did you eat today?ā
āWhere did you go?ā
āHow was your sleep?ā
āHow did your toilet go?ā
Christian and I laughed at Vovaās confusion since it is known that us Pinoys do ask those kinds of questions, especially in getting to know new people. āNo, coz in the philippines, if you wanna know somebody, that’s how we ask somebody āNikaon naka? What did you eat? Have you eaten already? What did you do? What are you doing?ā diba ing ana? That’s how I do it. For him, it’s his first time that somebody asked him that question: āWhat time did you eat?ā āWhat is your dinner?ā āBreakfast?ā āWhat’s your lunch?ā You need to update everyone. He thinks itās weird,ā said Christian.
Vova responded, āNormally people will just compliment you or joke, and heās like āWhat did you eat today?ā and I was like āDude, who are you?ā, but then I saw his photos and saw that heās living a healthy lifestyle. Traveling, taking nice photos, in planes all the time; I thought we had something in common actually. I did not talk about what I eat though, I just talked about something else.ā
Vovaās decision on swiping right first became the stepping stone towards the start of their relationship, but he still was able to leave it to fate to find someone with the weirdest and most intriguing questions; and in that, Christian Filipinoness stood out.
Si OA Ug Nonchalant
Photo from Christian & Vova
When talking about their typical date night, Christian and Vova shared their own thoughts and discussed the importance of compromise, āThere are my dates and there are his dates. I go to his dates too,ā said Vova. āHeās not a party guy, but he comes with me and with my friends. Then there are nights when I cook for him when I get off work,ā added Christian.
He balances me out.
Christian & Vova
Although they prefer different ways to spend their nights, Vova expressed how much he likes Christianās simple way of living, āHe is just different. He likes the basic things in life and balances me. Heās funny and laidback; and that makes me feel young as I felt too old in my own skin.ā
It was an awww moment as Vova placed his arm around Christian during the interview. āHe balances me out too,ā said Christian. āI keep in mind that someoneās waiting for me at home and heās the one who reminds me to be safe and to long to be at home. He doesn’t stop me from doing what I want, which is great. So, when I go home after a party, itās because I wanted to go home. Heās waiting for me, someoneās waiting for me. Heās sweet,ā he added.
The love between Christian and Vova is inspiring, especially in this time and age where marriage is usually no longer a priority for most couples. So, hereās their advise when it comes to building relationships and keeping them:
Vova: Try not to judge and just talk to people. A perfect match is not just by the looks, get to know them, make an effort and see what you feel about it. Communicate and start as friends. Be stable in what you do.
Christian: Be yourself, be who you are. In the Philippines, thereās a stigma in appearances. When youāre maya, āOh, you need to be manly, discreet, so that people will like you.ā But, just be who you are, go with the flow and shine your glow. Let your glow radiate to someone else, and thatās how you find love. Also, loyalty is the key.
On Defying Expectations & Redefining Love
Photo from Christian & Vova
The relationship of Christian and Vova is not without its challenges and setbacks, and we got to know deeper, especially since their love is a bit on the other side, defying tradition.
Photo from Christian & Vova
We asked if they ever felt and experienced any sort of discrimination when they announced their relationship to anyone, and Vova took the mic for it. āI felt insecure being in an open gay relationship. People started seeing me as gay. I never fancy myself being gay, though Iām queer. Thereās a deep part of me that can be considered gay. But me myself, I think of myself as a guy, I never associate myself being gay; because of the stigma. So, I felt insecure when we had to announce it,ā shared Vova. It was a struggle that he had to face, but according to him as well, āLater on, it turned out that nobody really cares. Everyone cares about each other, as long as you are happy, everyone will be happy.ā
Photo from Christian & Vova
Vova, as a model, always had roles leaning more into his masculinity, which is why he has a bit of a challenging time to embrace this side of him, with Christian. But, their love defied his insecurities and it helped him be more open, especially with his partnerās constant support.
On how Christian dealt with the insecurity of Vova? Well, he just posted. āHaha. I used his photo man gud. Yāknow us Filipinos kay i-post jud nako. When he found out, he was so mad because iyang mga pictures jud lagi daw kay from big time clients.ā
āI guess it was a good experience anyway. Christain was mocking me in front of clients and I was embarrassed. He was saying āAHHH! You donāt like me? You donāt love me? You donāt want to show me? You are shy of me?ā And I was thinking, āOh my! Iām gonna lose my career. He got really offended. He always wants to come to my gig and itās not allowed. He gets pissed,ā shared Vova jokingly.
At the end of the day, Christian learned what not to do while Vovaās working and Vova learned the value that Filipinos placed in posting photos of their loved ones on social media.
Now, the two welcome their followers and anyone to catch glimpses of their lives online as Christian spearheads their blogs. Their story has captured the hearts of netizens, spreading joy and inspiration far and wide.
As they celebrate their love, they also celebrate Pride Month, reminding us all that love, in every form, is beautiful and worth sharing.

June is Oral Health Month, a time to focus on how important good oral hygiene is for our health.
Dentists can often tell if someone has been involved in particular ACTIVITIES because of the certain signs in the mouth. Y’know, the types of food or things you placed in your mouth!
Nobody’s Gonna Know – THEY’RE GONNA KNOW!
Just when you thought you can lie your way to admitting that you flossed or did something before your visit to the dentist; you really can’t. So, let’s check out how dentists are able to know, without asking further questions from you:
Small red spots – These are tiny red or purple spots that can show up on the roof of the mouth and can be caused by irritation.
Cuts and bruises – The soft parts of the mouth like the lips, tongue, and inner cheeks might have bruises or small cuts from intense or repeated contact.
Patients History – Dentists see a lotĀ of different issues and learn to recognize the patterns. Overtime, they get good at figuring out what might cause certain signs.
Your dentist isn’t just interested in fixing teeth. Dentists are there to help you keep your mouth healthy and will keep anything they noticeĀ confidential. If they see signs of trauma, they just want to make sure everything is okay and give you the best care possible.
Besides visiting your dentist, keeping good oral hygiene at home is also important. Don’t forget that water helps wash away food particles and bacteria from your mouth.
Oral Health Month reminds us of the important role dental health plays in our lives. Take this opportunity to prioritize your mouth’s health and keeping it healthy; and also, keeping it from showing to your dentist what DAT mouth do!
