In a world where relationships can begin with just a swipe, online dating apps have redefined people’s relationships. From Tinder and Bumble to Hinge and Grindr, these platforms offer convenience, connection, and sometimes commitment. But behind the filtered profiles and witty bios lies a question that lingers: Are we here for love, seeking lust, or falling for a lie?
Cupid Goes Online
Despite the skepticism, numerous couples claim they found “their other half” through an online dating app. According to a report by Pew Research Center, 12% of people using the app have been married or committed to a relationship with someone they met through a dating site or app, while 23% say they have gone on a date with someone they met on the app. These numbers tell us that people are seeking genuine relationships through online apps. Apps like Hinge or Coffee Meets Bagel use algorithms based on shared interests, compatibility factors, and even psychological profiles to help users find long-term partners. Hinge even promotes itself as “the app designed to be deleted.”

“I know someone who met their lover through the bee app. They’re still going strong until now,” said Jovitz, 21, adding that she is delighted to see them together even now.
But love is not a one-hour fairy tale movie. Users seeking genuine relationships online must sift through profiles, endure ghosting, and filter out those with different goals to find someone they like to live with the rest of their lives.
LUST: Flings and Pings
Let’s be honest, many users aren’t swiping for soulmates. According to a 2020 Pew Research study, around 50% of dating app users say they’re not looking for a serious relationship. Online dating apps like Tinder, originally marketed as casual and convenient, have been linked to the rise of “hookup culture.” The swipe mechanism creates a dopamine feedback loop—similar to social media likes—that gratify instant attraction over deeper compatibility.
Photo from Unsplash
“I felt great,” said Kent, 22, adding that he was also shocked by the number of people liking him.
Meanwhile, he expressed that there are “doubts” about dating apps, as they have the potential for some people not being themselves, but that kind of situation gave him a thrill.
LIE: Scam Me Maybe
The curated nature of dating profiles: heavily filtered photos, embellished bios, selective storytelling, can lead to unrealistic expectations. Many dating app users have admitted to lying on their profiles to achieve more favorable search results. Even worse, catfishing and romance scams have become rampant, wherein 1 out of 10 dating profiles are fake and over $547 million was lost to online dating scams in the US in 2021. To address this issue, some apps now offer identity verification and video chat options, but users are still advised to remain cautious, as some scammers can still find ways to victimize people.

Love in Low Battery
Dating apps can empower people to find love or companionship at their own pace, but they can also be emotionally exhausting. “Frustrated because I feel that I’m falling behind, but sometimes I feel nothing,” said Angeles, 22, saying that online dating apps can drain people’s energy.
Photo from Unsplash
Psychologist Dr. Gary W. Lewandowski Jr. explains that using an online dating app is hard to navigate and can often lead to “dating app burnout.” Research also revealed that among the 79% of recent dating app users who are excited about their potential partners, 88% of the sample people are disappointed with the results. The paradox of choice often leaves users overwhelmed, reducing genuine emotional connection to a numbers game.
So, are dating apps about love, lust, or lies? The answer is: all of the above, depending on the user, their intentions, and the level of honesty they bring to the table.
Dating apps are tools. Like any tool, their outcome depends on how they’re used. Whether you’re looking for a soulmate, a casual date, or just someone to talk to, the key lies in being authentic, aware, and clear about what you seek.

In 2025, Cebuano male makeup trends reflect a quiet revolution where one blends tropical practicality, K-beauty minimalism, and a growing cultural acceptance of self-expression. The focus is on enhancing natural features, evening out skin tone, and concealing imperfections through lightweight, breathable products. This movement isn’t about transformation, it’s about refinement. Here’s how Cebuano men are mastering the art of looking makeup-free while wearing it.
Sun Protection
Sunscreen has evolved into a cosmetic staple. The CAMOU Mattifying Sun Stick offers SPF 50 protection with oil control and a non-greasy, no-white-cast finish that is perfect for Cebu’s tropical heat. Its popularity reflects a broader cultural shift toward skincare as self-care.

Natural Glow Through Skin Tinting
Skin tints and BB creams are favored for their ability to deliver a fresh, dewy finish without the heaviness of traditional foundation. Brands like STROKES Cosmetics and Issy & Co. offer products tailored for Filipino skin tones and Cebu’s humid climate. The Active Skin Tint by STROKES and True Flex Powder Foundation by Issy & Co. are top picks for their oil control, breathable texture, and SPF protection.

Tinted Lippies
Lip tints are becoming essentials in Cebuano men’s grooming kits. The aim is a hydrated, healthy look and never glossy or dramatic. Watsons Philippines recommends nude or light pink tints for men, and ROMAND.Ph’s Juicy Lasting Tint is a standout for its buildable color and long wear

Effortless Brows on Fleek
Defined yet natural brows are a cornerstone of the Cebuano grooming aesthetic. Tools like BROWIT Phils Brow Pen and Issy & Co.’s Brow Pencil Trio allow for subtle shaping that enhances facial structure without looking overdone. The goal is to frame the face with soft precision, not bold statements.

Contouring
The “Brontour” trend is a bronzer-contour hybrid that is gaining traction for subtle sculpting. Products like STROKES Sculpting Stick help enhance cheekbones and jawlines naturally, without harsh lines. This technique adds depth while maintaining a clean, masculine look.

Additional Accessory
Hair remains a key canvas for male self-expression. Water-based pomades and texture sprays are products that offer control and shine without stiffness, aligning with Cebuano preferences for effortless refinement.

Local Brand Advocacy
Retailers like Watsons Philippines are actively promoting male grooming through curated kits and pop culture tie-ins such as their Superman-themed launch in Cebu. These campaigns target Gen Z and young professionals, emphasizing confidence, accessibility, and clean grooming.
Market Insights & Cultural Shifts
The male cosmetics market is booming globally, with a projected CAGR of 9.4% from 2023 to 2033. In the Philippines, this growth is mirrored by increasing demand for gender-neutral, minimalist products. Cebuano men are embracing makeup as a tool for self-care and subtle enhancement, inspired by influencers like Bretman Rock and guided by experts such as Myckee Arcano.
So if you’d like to enhance your appearance through makeup, then come and try these makeup trends!

Panagsama Boulder Beach in Moalboal, Cebu might surprise first-time visitors expecting soft, powdery sand. Instead, this shoreline is covered in smooth rocks and coral pieces, earning it the name “Boulder Beach.” But there’s a story behind the stones.
Photo from Shaznay RhodePhoto from Shaznay RhodePhoto from Shaznay Rhode
In 1984, a powerful typhoon struck Moalboal and swept away much of Panagsama’s sandy beach. What remained was a rocky shoreline, shaped by nature and time. Though it may not be ideal for lounging, these boulders now mark the start of one of the best underwater experiences in the Philippines.
No Sand, No Problem
Just a few steps from shore, the seafloor drops into a colorful coral wall full of marine life. Thousands of sardines swim here year-round, along with turtles and vibrant reef fish. Whether you’re snorkeling or diving, the waters of Panagsama offer an unforgettable glimpse into Moalboal’s rich underwater world.
Photo from Moalboal’s Facebook PagePhoto from Moalboal’s Facebook PagePhoto from Moalboal’s Facebook Page
There are small dive shops, cafés, and resorts along the coast, perfect for resting after a swim. So while Panagsama may not have soft sand, it offers something far more unique: a rugged beach with a wild history and a sea full of wonders.
How To Get There?

In the upland village of Barangay Panas, Panas Falls is one of Consolacion’s lesser-known treasures. It’s the kind of place you won’t find in packaged tours or heavily filtered Instagram posts but that’s exactly the appeal.
Photo from Hero ArigoPhoto from Hero ArigoPhoto from Hero Arigo
Here, the water flows gently over layered rock, forming shallow pools perfect for a quick dip or a slow afternoon of doing absolutely nothing. It’s not a towering cascade, but it has something else: peace. No fences, no cement paths, and most importantly, no entrance fee. Just a footpath, a short hike, and a few minutes of stillness waiting for you at the end.
Things to Keep in Mind
Before heading to Panas Falls, keep in mind that the place is completely natural and unmanaged, there are no stores, cottages, or lifeguards, so be sure to bring your own food and water. The water is refreshingly cold, even on hot days, and the area stays quiet, especially on weekdays. Since no one’s there to clean up, take responsibility for your trash and leave the place as clean as you found it.
How To Get There?
Location: Barangay Panas, Consolacion, Cebu
By Private Car: From Cebu City, drive north to Consolacion.Once you reach SM Consolacion, head inland toward Barangay Panas. The road going up is partly paved but narrow in some spots. Be ready for rough patches. You can park near the start of the foot trail and walk the rest of the way.
By Commute: Ride a jeep or bus to SM Consolacion. From there, take a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) and ask to be dropped off at Panas Falls. The trail isn’t long, but wear proper shoes—it can get slippery, especially after rain.
Panas Falls isn’t about spectacle. It’s about stillness. It’s for people who don’t mind getting a bit of mud on their shoes for the sake of fresh air, cold water, and a quiet hour away from the city.
If you’re in Consolacion or nearby, and you feel like being somewhere with no noise but the water and wind, try Panas Falls. You don’t need a plan. Just go.
