Whether you’re hunting for a new job, seeking an internship, or exploring other professional opportunities, crafting a well-written resume is important. But one question that often comes up is: How long should your resume be?
Well, the answer can differ based on your experience and the role you’re targeting. But, here’s a guide for you to determine the ideal length for your resume.
The One-Page Rule
For interns, first-time job seekers, or those who are still early in their careers, a one-page resume is highly recommended. The concise format allows you to indicate only your highlights, which are what an HR would look for; making every piece of information in your resume impactful.
Two Pages for More Experienced Folks
You can add an additional page if you are someone with tons of experiences relevant to the job that you’re applying for. So, when you consider having a 2-page resume, it’s best for you to elaborate on your accomplishments, work history, and certifications you received.
If you have several years of experience, a two-page resume is acceptable and often necessary.
Tip: Customize Your Resume
Considering the length of your resume may be crucial, but nothing is more important than having a customized resume! So, make sure that you incorporate all the necessary keywords that fits the job description and always highlight your relevant experiences. Of course, don’t forget to design your resume in a professional manner, or if you’re in the creative field, then show your talent by having a uniquely designed document that’s still readable, has clear headings, and with a consistent layout.
Above all, always remember that the goal of your resume is to capture the interest of recruiters and hiring managers, so keep it concise, relevant, and impactful to make the best impression, Sugboanons!

Dengue fever is a serious illness spread by mosquitoes, but you can take simple steps to protect yourself and your family; here’s how:
Eliminate Stagnant Water
Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water. Regularly check and clean containers like buckets, flower pots, and old tires that can collect water. By getting rid of these breeding sites, you can significantly reduce mosquito populations around your home.
Use Mosquito Repellents
Apply insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin and clothing. This helps keep mosquitoes away and lowers your risk of getting bitten.
Wear Protective Clothing
When possible, wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks to minimize exposed skin. This makes it harder for mosquitoes to bite you.
Install Screens
Fit screens on windows and doors to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home. This simple barrier can help keep these pests out and reduce your chances of getting bitten indoors.
Sleep Under a Mosquito Net
If you live in or are visiting an area with a high risk of dengue, use a mosquito net while sleeping. This is particularly important in areas where mosquitoes are more active at night.
Maintain Cleanliness
Regularly clean your surroundings and remove potential mosquito breeding sites. This includes emptying and cleaning anything that can hold water.
Participate in Community Efforts
Join local clean-up drives and support community mosquito control programs. Working together can help reduce the number of breeding sites and protect everyone in the community.
By following these tips, you can greatly reduce your risk of dengue fever and help create a safer environment for everyone.
Carlos Edriel Yulo, a remarkable gymnast from Manila, has marked his name in history as the first Filipino to win two gold medals at the Paris Olympics 2024. His story is not just about his incredible achievements but also about the dreams, hard work, and passionate heart that defined his journey.
The Observer Becomes The Athlete
Carlos Yulo’s journey to becoming an Olympic champion began in the bustling city of Manila. Born on February 16, 2000, he showed an early passion for gymnastics. He loved the sport since he was a young lad and would watch other gymnasts train to compete at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
At seven years old, his grandfather, Rodrigo Frisco, saw him practicing flips at a playground. This hobby of Carlos became the turning point of his life when his Grandpa decided to take him to the Gymnastic Association of the Philippines (GAP) to undergo a formal training. And all those training hours paid off when he joined the National Capital Region’s gymnastic team.
In 2008 he joined his first big event, the Palarong Pambansa; and by 2010, he started bringing home gold medals in the individual all-around and floor exercise competitions.
Gaining International Recognition
In 2016, Carlos was offered a life-changing opportunity when the Japan Olympic Association gave him a scholarship to train in “The Land of the Rising Sun;” therefore, he packed up his bags and moved. With a degree in Literature, Carlos graduated in 2022 at Teikyo University in Tokyo, Japan.
When 2018 came, he made history by winning a bronze medal at the World Championships, marking his name as the Philippines first medalist in the event.
By 2019, Carlos won in the floor exercise competition at the World Championship in Doha, Qatar. His performances continued to impress spectators and judges alike, with him bagging gold medals at the Asian Championship and the Southeast Asian Games. Each victory was a testament to his skill, determination, and the support of his family and coaches.
The Olympic Journey
Carlos Yulo’s first Olympic appearance was at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which was held in 2021. Though he narrowly missed a medal in the vault finals, he remained determined and focused on his goals and used the experience as a motivation to work harder.
The 2024 Paris Olympics marked a historic moment for Carlos Yulo and our country, the Philippines. A shout of celebratory joy echoed throughout the nation as he won not one, but two gold medals in the competition; making him the “First Filipino to Win Two Gold Olympic Medals.”
His triumphs in Paris were a proud moment for the nation, highlighting not only his skill but also his perseverance and love for gymnastics.
Carlos Yulo’s story is a heartwarming reminder of what can be achieved with passion and hard work. From his early days in Manila to becoming the first Filipino to win two Olympic gold medals, he has become an inspiration to many. His achievements go beyond the medals; they represent the power of perseverance and the fulfillment of a dream.
Carlos Yulo has made his country proud and continues to inspire with his remarkable story.
A celebration of the beauty of the universe and the brave Filipino explorers of the galaxy.
This year, the Philippine Space Week will be celebrated from August 8 to 14, 2024 by the Philippine Space Agency as part of the advocacy to promote the importance of space science and technology. The theme for the celebration is “#𝐘𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐚 𝐀𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐬.”
So, in line with the Philippine Space Week, let’s get to know these aspiring Filipino astronauts who has undergone their mission trainings and were chosen for the future space voyages:
Chino Roque
Daniel Angelo Roque or “Chino Roque” became one of the 23 space cadets chosen, amongst 28,000 applicants, to fly to space with XCOR Lynx through the Axe Apollo Space Academy back in 2013. He was the only Filipino qualified in the candidate selection to become a “Commercial Astronaut.” Buzz Aldrin was also one of the selection committee chairman for the program.
Kristine Atienza
Known as the “First Filipino Analog Astronaut”, Kristine Atienza is an expert in both astronomy and nutrition science, which she proudly displayed in their week-long mission as the nutrition specialist and medical officer of her crew. She is a member of the UP Astronomical Society and believes that astronomy is the greatest way to begin getting into science due to its visualities and how it can open the mind to the wonders of the universe.
Dr. Marvic Jon Alcantara
A part-time professor and a medical officer, Dr. Marvic Jon Alcantara was able to complete his space simulation expedition at the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation (HI-SEAS). He then became the “Second Filipino Analog Astronaut” and has the aim of identifying or exploring the lunar environment to ensure the safety of his crew, making sure that the entire mission is feasible with little to no challenges ahead.
These kababayans are proving that space exploration is possible and can be achieved amidst all the challenges.
So, Sugboanons, as we celebrate the Philippine Space Week, let us all remember that our universe is vast and that we can dream even greater, beyond the stars, beyond our galaxies!

People in Sitio Tayud, Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City are shocked after an image of the Sr. Sto. Niño is said to have shed tears on Friday, July 26, 2024. Some residents claim they saw the Sto. Niño cry, and this led many to visit the house where the image is kept, hoping for miracles and to offer their prayers.
The image of Sr. Sto. Niño has been with the Carulasan family for 16 years. Their 9-year-old child was the first to notice the tears, which were clear drops coming from one of its eyes. Believing in the power of Sto. Nino, many locals have visited the Carulasan home to touch the image and wipe away the tears, hoping it will bring them healing. This event highlights the deep faith and devotion of the community toward Sr. Sto. Niño.
Despite the growing attention, the Church is advising people to be careful and not to immediately believe in miracles without a thorough check. There have been previous cases where religious icons were believed to dance but were later found to be false.
As RDJ returns to the MCU, science and technology are reaching new Ironman status with their latest innovations.
Who would have thought that we’d get to see titanium hearts being successfully implanted to a human before 2024 ends? Or better yet a self-navigating delivery robot to help you in delivering up to 100-lbs? These two weren’t anticipated but it is definitely not a shock, especially in the ever-changing industries of science and technology.
The First Titanium Heart Successfully Implanted Into A Human
With technology similar to what’s being used in bullet trains, the first titanium-constructed heart was successfully implanted into a human patient and it is known as the “BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart.”
The Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute spearheaded the study, innovation, and the surgical process surrounding the implantation. According to the published news of BCM.Edu, “BiVACOR’s TAH is a titanium-constructed biventricular rotary blood pump with a single moving part that utilizes a magnetically levitated rotor that pumps the blood and replaces both ventricles of a failing heart.”
The success of the process paved the way for more patients to receive the titanium hearts, in which Baylor disclosed that they are aiming for four more patients to be included in their technological study and innovation.
The Delivery Robot That Has The Map
Vayu Robotics, a startup company was able to invent the very first self-navigating delivery robot that could carry up to 100-lbs at 20 MPH!
Named as the “Vayu One,” the invention works without the use of LiDar (Light Detection and Ranging) technology; instead, it has passive sensors or cameras paired with Value’s proprietary AI mobility software that could help it detect streets and pave its own way.
This mini delivery robot is just the start of what soon becomes a more convenient and affordable method of delivering goods from one place to another.
So, what do you think about these two latest innovations, Sugboanons? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
August is not only “Salt Air” month but also one of the months with several holidays. So, here’s your guide and hopefully it’ll help you plot your vacation leaves.
Holidays in August
Regular Holidays
August 21: Ninoy Aquino Day – This is a special holiday to honor Ninoy Aquino Jr., who played a key role in the fight for democracy in the Philippines. It’s a day to remember his sacrifice and contributions to the world.
August 28: National Heroes Day (Observed) – National Heroes Day is a regular holiday dedicated to celebrating the bravery of Filipino heroes. It’s officially observed on the last Monday of August, so if it falls on August 28, the holiday will be adjusted to fit the calendar.
Best Times to Take Leave in August
To get a longer break, you can file a leave for the long weekends. For example, if you take a leave on August 22 (Thursday) after Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21, you’ll have a four-day break from August 21 to August 24. This is a great chance to relax or go on a short trip.
To enjoy a longer vacation, think about taking leave around National Heroes Day. If the holiday is observed on August 28 (Wednesday), you could take leave on August 26 (Monday) and August 27 (Tuesday). It’s a good opportunity for a more extended holiday without using too many leave days.
Note: Make sure to consider your workload when planning your leave. Finish important tasks before your time off or arrange for someone else to handle them while you’re away. This will help you return to work without extra stress.
By taking leave around these holidays and planning carefully, you can make the most of your time off to stress out or spend time with your family, for a short getaway or a longer vacation without worrying about your work.
