The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has included 12 to 17 year olds to get the Moderna vaccine.
FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said “After a thorough evaluation by our vaccine experts and our regulatory experts in FDA, we approved this Friday the use under EUA of the Moderna vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 17.”
However, the necessary precautions to follow and observe for possible heart inflammation is still observed. Myocarditis happens one in ever million and this is when the muscle of the heart would inflame.
He added, “Definitely with the Delta variant affecting a lot of children, our experts saw the benefit of using the vaccine outweighs the risk.”
On the other hand, health officials and experts stressed that the elderly and people with comorbidities are still to be prioritized given that they are in the high-risk group.
To date, 17.53% of the country’s population have received their first jab, while 12.51% have completed both doses.
