Nowadays, most tourist spots are popular only for the stunning views and the various adventures that they offer. It is uncommon to come across a location that offers both breathtaking views and at the same time is of historical significance.
Such is the case for Palalong Cliff in Barili, Cebu. This popular spot in the said town has been a witness to one of the province’s most horrific historical accounts. It is in Palalong Cliff where hundreds of locals and soldiers were killed by Japanese military during the World War II.
They were accused of being supportive of the Americans and thus, were stabbed to death with bayonets and pushed over the cliff to die. To honor and give respect to the victims of the war, a cross (9 feet in height) has been planted on the cliff and now serves as one of the town’s main attractions.
Putting this dark history aside, the 36-feet high Palalong Cliff offers a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding Tanon Strait and the province of Negros across the calm waters.
It is the perfect place for those who want to catch the sunset with the strong and cool breeze atop the cliff. This also serves as a good location for some afternoon picnic with the family.
On top of all these, you don’t have to pay any entrance fee at all.

HOW TO GET THERE?
Exact location: Barangay Guibuangan, Barili, Southern Cebu — 2.5-3 hours away from Cebu City.
BY BUS: From Cebu South Bus terminal, ride a bus bound for Barili. Fare is around P80. Ask the driver to drop you off in front of Palalong Place Bar & Restaurant (located close to the path that leads to Palalong Cliff).
BY PRIVATE VEHICLE: Navigate through Waze and Google Maps and enter “Barili Bay Viewpoint” in Barili as the destination.
