The trail to the cave is surrounded by greenery, wild plants, birds, and the occasional butterfly fluttering by. Inside, you may spot bats clinging to the cave’s ceilings, an important reminder that Sayao is not just a tourist spot, but a living ecosystem.

Best Time to Visit

If you’re planning a trip, target the dry season (December to May). Rain makes the trails extra muddy and the cave floors dangerously slick. A clear, sunny day is best for both trekking and exploring.

Local Guides and Community Involvement

For safety and navigation, locals or barangay tanods often serve as guides. Hiring them not only ensures you don’t get lost, but also helps support the community. It’s a win-win for sustainable tourism.

How to Get There?

Location: Sibonga, Cebu

By Car: From Cebu City, drive south via N. Bacalso Highway for about 1 to 1.5 hours until you reach Sibonga. From the town proper, follow barangay roads toward Barangay Sayao (search “Sayao Cave Sibonga” on Waze or Google Maps). Roads near the cave can get rough, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended.

By Commute: From Cebu South Bus Terminal, ride a bus bound for Sibonga or nearby towns (Argao/Dalaguete). Ask the conductor to drop you at Sibonga proper or the nearest stop to Barangay Sayao. From there, take a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) to the jump-off point. A local guide will usually meet you before heading to the cave.
