May Heat Alert: Temperature to Soar to 47°C

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the month of May is expected to be even hotter. PAGASA stated that temperatures could rise to approximately 47°C. Authorities are also warning the public about possible heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It’s important to stay hydrated and, if necessary, avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

High Temps in Luzon & Visayas; ITCZ in Mindanao

PAGASA recorded the highest temperature this April in areas such as San Ildefonso. Several other places in Luzon and the Visayas are also experiencing “danger-level” heat indices, ranging from 40°C and above. So, to cope up with the heat, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Minimize exposure to heat
  • Avoid strenuous activities between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM
  • Cool off with baths or showers
  • Pay attention to your body’s signals
  • Wear light or loose-fitting clothing
  • Seek medical attention immediately if you experience symptoms of heat-related illnesses

While some parts of Mindanao, particularly in the northern region, are experiencing high heat indices, the other side may have occasional rain showers due to the presence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
