Weather Alert: Tropical Storm Kristine Force Schools to Close in Cebu

Today, October 22, classes are canceled in various regions of the Philippines, including Cebu City as Kristine, internationally known as Trami, strengthened into a tropical storm.

Kristine has strengthened into a tropical storm while moving west-northwest over the Philippine Sea., according to PAGASA. As of 11:00AM today, it’s center was 335 km east of Virac, Catanduanes. The storm is traveling at a speed of 10 km/h in the same direction. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near its center, with gusts that can reach up to 80 km/h.

The wind signals alert the public about the potential wind threats from a tropical depression. Currently, the highest possible alert for “Kristine” is Wind Signal #3, as there is a chance the storm would rapidly intensify. The wind patterns interacting with “Kristine” may lead to strong gale-force gusts in specified areas, particularly in coastal and upland locations. Central Visayas is likely to be affected.
