Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
Parvo Awareness Month in the Philippines is observed every July during the rainy season. It is a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness about canine parvovirus, a highly contagious viral illness that primarily affects dogs.
What Is Parvo?
Canine parvovirus is a serious and often fatal disease, particularly affecting puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It is characterized by symptoms such as severe vomiting, diarrhea (watery and bloody), fatigue and loss of appetite. The virus spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or contaminated objects and surfaces, making it crucial for dog owners to maintain good hygiene and vaccination.
Activities during this month typically include informational seminars, discounted and free vaccination drives and community outreach programs to educate dog owners about the risks and preventive measures associated with parvovirus.
We need efforts during Parvo Awareness Month to reduce the incidence of parvovirus in the Philippines and ensure the health and well-being of our dog population.
Remember, if it’s the rainy season, then it is the Parvo season; have your furbabies vaccinated now, Sugboanons!
