Airfares are set to decrease this month due to a reduction in fare surcharges, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB). This adjustment is attributed  to the declining global prices of jet fuel.

According to Clarabel Anne Lacsina, the Officer-in-Charge of CAB’s administrative division, announced on Wednesday that the Civil Aviation Company Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has decided to lower the fuel surcharges from Level 6 to Level 5.

With the new Level 5 surcharges, domestic flight surcharges will range from P151 to P542, down from the previous range of P185 to P665. For instance, a one way ticket from Manila to Caticlan (Boracay) will see a reduction of P54 in the fuel surcharge, bringing it down to P238.

For international flights, the surcharges will decrease to a range of P498 to P3,703, from the current P610 to P4500.  A flight to destinations like Taiwan or Hong Kong will have a fuel  surcharge reduction of P112 making the new surcharge P498.

“We hope to see a continued increase in passenger numbers, especially with lower fuel surcharges leading to lower fares,” Lacsina said.

This trend is expected to boost the overall travel industry, making air travel more affordable and accessible for both domestic and international travelers.
