A Silicon Valley startup is offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a stay on the Moon. The futuristic hotel promises guests lunar views, moonwalks, and adventures unlike anything on Earth. Read on to discover how this space-age luxury could become a reality.
Booking a Lunar Escape

GRU Space, founded by UC Berkeley graduate Skyler Chan, is now accepting reservations for its lunar hotel. Guests can secure a spot with a deposit of $250,000 or $1 million, depending on the stay selected. The final cost of a trip, including transportation, will likely exceed $10 million.
Living Among the Stars

The first hotel will use inflatable habitats that accommodate four guests for multi-day stays. Visitors can expect unique activities like driving lunar rovers and even golfing on the Moon’s surface. Each structure is designed to last about ten years before being replaced by a permanent building.
Building on Lunar Soil
Before opening, GRU Space will conduct tests and early missions starting in 2026, with lunar construction experiments set for 2029. The company plans to convert lunar regolith into Moon bricks for future hotel structures. Long-term plans include a building inspired by San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts.
A Vision Beyond Tourism

Chan views the project as a first step toward sustained human life beyond Earth. Lunar tourism could help create a new economy and open space to more people, not just governments and billionaires. GRU Space also envisions similar experiences on Mars in the future.
Who Can Go?
The hotel targets adventurers, honeymooners, and repeat spaceflight enthusiasts. Applicants must pay a $1,000 non-refundable fee and pass medical, financial, and background checks. Early applications will be reviewed this year as the company prepares for its first missions.
Space Luxury Is Here

The Moon hotel may sound like science fiction, but it’s quickly becoming a reality for those who can afford it. With investors from SpaceX, Anduril, and Y Combinator backing the project, the future of off-world stays is taking shape. This is luxury travel on a cosmic scale.
