For the 2026 Fiesta Señor, the traditional fluvial procession of the Santo Niño will have a clear rule: politicians who are not essential to the event will not be allowed on the official galleon. The move aims to maintain the solemnity of the celebration and prevent misunderstandings among the public. Only church-approved guests and necessary security personnel will be permitted on the Lite Ferries 10 vessel.

Essential Participants Only

The galleon’s passenger list includes the Cebu Archbishop, members of the hermandad, a lay religious brotherhood, and invited sponsors and guests. Public officials whose duties are crucial, such as those in charge of security and order, may still board. Other politicians will participate only in support roles outside the vessel to avoid drawing attention or criticism.

Devotees can view the procession from designated areas at Piers 1 to 5. Organizers emphasize crowd management and safety, while security personnel will conduct inspections, K9 screenings, and prohibit sharp objects. The event encourages the faithful to enjoy the procession in a peaceful and orderly manner.

A Focus on Unity

The 461st Feast of the Santo Niño de Cebu carries the theme “In Santo Niño, We Are One.” By limiting galleon passengers to those directly involved, organizers hope to keep the focus on devotion, celebration, and shared faith rather than politics.

The 2026 fluvial procession sets a clear boundary between religious tradition and political presence. It ensures the event remains a joyful and spiritual experience for all devotees while prioritizing safety and decorum.
