MCIA Crowned Asia-Pacific’s Best Airport

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has been recognized as the Best Airport in Asia-Pacific for the 5–15 Million Passengers Per Annum category at the Airports Council International (ACI) World Airport Service Quality Awards. 

The announcement was made during the Airport Experience Summit in Guangzhou, China, held from September 8 to 11, 2025. This achievement reinforces Cebu’s reputation as a premier gateway to the Philippines and places MCIA firmly on the global aviation map.

Rising Standards of Service

The award underscores the airport’s consistent efforts to elevate passenger experience. From frontline staff to airline partners and concessionaires, MCIA has developed a seamless service environment that reflects both efficiency and the signature warmth of Cebuano hospitality. Its management also showcased these efforts at the summit, participating in international discussions on customer experience, digital transformation, and service training.

Growing Passenger Traffic

MCIA’s recognition comes during a period of significant growth. In 2024, the airport handled 11.3 million passengers, marking a 13 percent increase from the previous year. This steady recovery and expansion also earned MCIA a place at the 2025 Skytrax Awards, where it was ranked the seventh Most Improved Airport in the world.

Aboitiz InfraCapital’s Expanding Role

Beyond MCIA, its operator Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) has been making waves in the industry. The company, which also manages Laguindingan and Bohol-Panglao airports, received the Grand Tourism Excellence Award from the Manila Overseas Press Club. With its airport network projected to serve over 20 million passengers annually, AIC has positioned its gateways as vital economic engines that sustain local economies and enhance the Philippines’ global connectivity.
