Cebu City is set to open its first public pet cemetery as part of its “Cebu City 2035” vision for a smart, sustainable, and inclusive metropolis. The initiative, introduced during Mayor Nestor Archival’s first 100 days in office, aims to provide a dignified resting place for pets regarded as family members by many Cebuanos.
Plans Still Underway

Details on the location, design, and timeline are still being finalized, but the project highlights the city’s goal of extending compassion to all forms of life. It seeks to promote responsible pet ownership while ensuring that animals are treated with respect even after death.
Growing Demand for Pet Aftercare

The plan comes as more pet owners in Cebu call for accessible cremation and burial services. Currently, only a few private facilities exist, including Golden Haven Memorial Park’s pet crematorium in Binaliw, the first in the Visayas and the third nationwide.
Addressing Improper Disposal

The proposed cemetery also responds to past incidents of improper pet disposal, which have raised health and environmental concerns. Decomposing remains left in public areas can pose risks to nearby residents and contribute to sanitation problems.
Toward a Humane City

Once established, the public pet cemetery is expected to offer a respectful and affordable option for grieving families. The project symbolizes Cebu City’s broader commitment to compassion, sustainability, and inclusivity, values at the heart of its long-term development vision.
