To Anyone Entering Their 20s: Here’s What You Need to Know

Entering a new age bracket can really be nerve wracking. Where new experiences and new responsibilities are what awaits you, but never fret as this is a normal thing to experience, the same goes for entering your 30’s. If you are still unsure what to expect or prepare? Then keep on reading.

  1. Always Listen and Ask A Lot of Question

If you’re confused, you don’t have anything to worry about, it’s normal. There is no harm in asking questions. Even if you think they’re stupid. People are friendlier than you think, but don’t forget to ask politely and address them properly. 

  1. Life Is Too Short, Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously 

An Uncle told us O.G.K (Only God Knows) and that life is too short to take things seriously, death is an inevitable phenomenon that happens unexpectedly to anything that has life. So do the things that make you happy. Buy the things that you like, go on a vacation, or try a new hobby. As long as it does not compromise your assets or plans.

  1. Investing in yourself pays off

The more time and money you put into your personal development, the more freedom you’re going to have in your life. Choose a job that you love, to find a high quality person to spend your life with, and to achieve your goals and dreams. But also invest in your health too, your career, and your future.

  1. Don’t worry about what others are doing

When you’ve been too focused on other people’s life and comparing yourself to them. It’s hard to see that they are progressing but yet feel like you are getting behind. But learning to be confident in your choices because it is what you want to do and doing what you love can be so freeing and so empowering.

  1. Cry

It’s fine to have a mental breakdown. The feeling of being overwhelmed can often hinder our plans, so release that frustration. We all gave loads of pent up emotions, sometimes shedding tears is the best way to release them. And always remember, it is normal to cry, it is normal to feel these emotions and this doesn’t mean that you are weak. 

  1.  Learn the act of discipline

Discipline involves sticking to your commitments and staying focused on your goals. Create a routine that includes time for work, relaxation, self-improvement. Avoid procrastinating by breaking tasks into manageable chunks and setting deadlines.  Developing discipline helps you achieve long-term success.

  1. Start saving money now!

Investing your money is the best “purchase” you can make. The amount of resources available today to help you make and save money is endless. It can be as simple as opening an investment account and setting up an auto transfer every month. Study the possible banks and study their system and how their investments happen.

  1. Experiment more! Try news things. Fail hard

Experiencing a lot of things in your 20’s and doing those scared, can be a great way for you to develop as a person. Explore in ways you have yet to explore. Be courageous. Ask out the person you like, go on a vacation alone. Say yes to crazy invites, meet new people, love more people. And see more of the world. Failing is just a normal thing to experience so do it scared, for you to try out new things.

  1. Your environment is important

Regardless of how disciplined or motivated you are, you’ll never reach your fullest potential if you’re with the wrong crowd. Think about it, if your three closest friends aren’t doing anything with their lives, you’ll most likely be the same. But if you’re with people who constantly strive to improve, you’ll also be influenced to do so.

  1. Learn how to set boundaries

Setting boundaries means knowing your limits and communicating them to others. It’s okay to say no if something makes you uncomfortable or stressed. Be clear about what you need, and be firm but polite when enforcing your boundaries. This skill helps you maintain healthy relationships and protect your well being.

  1. Learn to stand up for yourself

Advocating for yourself is an important skill to learn in your 20’s. Express your thoughts and opinions calmly and assertively. Use “I” in statements to communicate how you feel and what you need. Practice being aggressive, standing up for yourself helps you maintain your self-respect and ensures your needs are met. 

  1. Learn how to cope with stress

Stress is normal, but amanaging it is key to your well being. It’s also one of the most important things to learn in your 20’s/ Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing, exercising, or meditation. Break tasks into manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed . Reach out for support when needed and finding easy ways to cope with stress improves your mental and physical health. 

  1. Relationship skills

Building healthy relationships requires good communication, trust, and empathy. Listen actively, be supportive, and show appreciation for those in your life. Resolve conflicts through open dialogue and compromise. Incest time and effort in nurturing relationships that bring positivity to your life. 

  1. Confidence will come, definitely

Don’t base your self esteem on others opinions, You should focus on building intrinsic confidence that comes from within. Your worth is not determined by external validation. Learn yourself and your skills, learn to appreciate and be confident in the skills that you have. Not only in skills, but feel proud and confident with yourself, know your worth and that you deserve the best. Explore your potential and skills.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it’s seeking advice from a mentor, asking for emotional support or requesting assistance with a task, reaching out to others is important. People around you are often willing to offer guidance and support when you need it.

  1.  Get a valid ID

Getting your valid ID early can really help you get other legal documents you need. Valid IDs  come in the forms of passports, Phil ID (National ID), Driver’s license, Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID), Postal ID, Voter’s ID, NBI Clearance. When applying for IDs, always prepare your documents needed before applying. Verify that the IDs you are applying are valid for the purposes you need them for. Pay close attention to the application process and follow instructions carefully, ask questions if you feel confused. 

  1.  Know your government benefits

The government provides Filipinos social welfare benefits through Social Security (SSS), Government  Service Insurance System, the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. This includes rank and file workers whether full time, part time or contractual. 

  1. Your career path doesn’t have to be linear

You don’t have to worry if you stray off from your initial career plan. Career paths can be non linear, involving sideways moves, taking a step back, or even exploring completely different fields. In this day and age, where flexibility and adaptability are highly valued. Instead of a rigid ladder, think of your career as a rock climbing wall, where going sideways or even slightly back can be necessary to find the best route to reach the top.

  1. Establish a good routine and treat your body like a temple

Always remember that our bodies are a precious gift and that we should treat it with the utmost care and respect. By setting a good routine, you would feel more light and happy when you start your day. This gives you more familiarity with your body, you would even sometimes have a deeper connection with your body if you do so. So when you wake up, you would feel as if you won already, and are ready to conquer the challenges ahead. 

  1. Always have a creative outlet and double down on your passion

Having a creative outlet and pursuing your passion is crucial for personal well being and fulfillment. It allows for emotional expression, stress relief, and can even lead to new opportunities. By nurturing these aspects, individuals can experience a more joyful and meaningful life.
