I Woke Up Like This: 2025 Makeup Trends to Watch Out For

Kung magpa-gwapa ta? Mag antos jud ta because no pain is no gain

It’s finally 2025 and magpagwapa napud ta karon para ready to slay our next 365 days. We have been doing the “no makeup makeup look” for the past few years but something in the internet ecosystem has changed. We are talking about grunge, flaws unconcealed, and leaning into your own individuality; yes, we’re going subversive and with an intentionally messy vibe!

In this article, we are going to give you a full breakdown and learn from the celebrity makeup artists about their opinions on some must-try makeup looks:

Subtle Realness: Under Eyes

Celebrity makeup artist, Patrick Ta, says that we are celebrating realness more than ever. Think effortlessly chic looks that bring out your unique radiance. You can start by using a serum-based lightweight formula rather than your full coverage concealer. It won’t completely cover up your under eyes but it will make you look fresh.

Also, it goes hand in hand with the new party girl makeup looks predicted by makeup artist Donny Davy as he suggests to tone down your concealer—not flushed against the eye. We can also forego it altogether and go for a grunge shadowy look, similar to Gabbriette and Charli XCX whose eyes are rarely overly polished and bright.

Quiet Grunge

Social media has defined many trends for the past few decades and we all love a throwback look. According to MAC makeup artist, Chantel Miller, quiet grunge is going to be one of the biggest trends in 2025. The makeup look is composed of a muted version of gothcore colors—we are talking grays, taupes, beige, and the next iterations of the nineties. This is how we define nostalgia and make it more contemporary.

Makeup artist, Daniel Martin, also added that the trick is to be not so intentional and precious with the applications. He recommends doing your eyes before applying your foundation or concealer to prevent any potential fallout from the liner or mascara. Line the inner top and your bottom waterline, then close your eyes and squeeze tightly. This tearing will help move the eyeliner and a natural looking smudge without the eyebags and breakouts.

Super Fresh Skin

Glowy skin? Girl, that’s the vibe we are looking for as we are leaning to a more dewy look without using too much product. Patrick Ta, a celebrity makeup artist is also a Korean skincare lover and their skincare has allowed us to prep our skin before putting on makeup. Glowy products just means you need a lot less coverage to create a fake glow. Why not try the real deal? We just got the thing for you.

For foundation? Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez recommends opting for a lightweight liquid with a buildable coverage. You can use the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation, a foundation she uses on Sabrina Carpenter. The foundation has buildable coverage, therefore you can go natural to as full coverage than ever. It leaves a glow on natural skin texture.

Metallic Accents

Metallic accents took over lids at Loewe and lips at Miu Miu for the spring or summer runway shows but how about we do it? We are all in for an elevated, shimmering eyeshadow heading into 2025. Patrick Ta, a celebrity makeup artist said that a wash of metallic shimmer across your eyes or a metallic eyeliner wing or a dab of shimmer on your lips—futuristic and simple.

You can skip your mascara when doing these pearly white shadows to let the shimmer speak for itself.

Undefined Lips

We are veering into a less structured territory, makeup artist Nam Vo created a look for the LoveShackFancy spring or summer ‘25 show and it’s called a backward popsicle lip. First, she applied concealer on the lips for a radiant glow then she used a bright berry stain just on the center of the lips. Vo topped it off with a juicy lip oil to diffuse the color outward. Lips will be glossy, healthy, shimmery, and translucent.

This look is alright with the cherry girl makeup on Tiktok right now featuring a mixture of red liner and lip gloss to create a softer red lip. You can create these easily blurred lips with any shade. It’s a great option for a matte lip, especially with the upstick in chubby lip crayons.
