Kristine has strengthened into a tropical storm while moving west-northwest over the Philippine Sea., according to PAGASA. As of 11:00AM today, it’s center was 335 km east of Virac, Catanduanes. The storm is traveling at a speed of 10 km/h in the same direction. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near its center, with gusts that can reach up to 80 km/h.
The wind signals alert the public about the potential wind threats from a tropical depression. Currently, the highest possible alert for “Kristine” is Wind Signal #3, as there is a chance the storm would rapidly intensify. The wind patterns interacting with “Kristine” may lead to strong gale-force gusts in specified areas, particularly in coastal and upland locations. Central Visayas is likely to be affected.
